Time for an update. I've been busy with all 3 cars basically fucking me in the ass repeatedly. If this is what prison is like, I'm really glad I chose college.
The bad news is that not only does the piece of shit Miata I bought need to have the engine torn down and rebuilt, but 2 days ago the turbo on the Subaru died. Luckily I was close to home and it wasn't smoking - seems like shaft, possibly bearing. No check engine lights or abnormalities other than no power and awful clanking/scraping sounds. New turbo is on its way.
The good news in all this is that the 1er has been back together for almost 2 weeks and hasn't blown up yet. I put about 150 miles on it with a Stage 1 OTS map (low boost) until I could get PTF to send me a backend flash for the Cobb. Terry over at BMS does not provide a BEF for my DME version. Awesome. So I paid PTF to basically dial in my BEF, and then dial in a JB4 custom Map 6. A few days ago I got the first revision of the BEF tuned for E50.
For 10 glorious minutes, the car pulled like an absolute freight train. It was disgustingly fast. Then all of a sudden with the pedal matted to the floor in 3rd, I got a boost leak code. It wasn't in full limp mode, just cut boost out. Data logging showed peaking around 5 psi. Fekkin shit I hate leaks. Verified that it is indeed a large boost leak after comparing actual load to requested load in the data logs, and the wastegate duty cycle is where it should be.
I checked the hot side charge pipe as that was the only boost-related pipe I removed during the install. Things seemed legit. My fear of my shiny new DV+ diverter valve being the culprit was looming. I may have forgotten to lube the piston in the DV+, and I may not have tightened one of the bolts enough. So tonight I pulled the water pump so I could get the DV+ out, rebuilt it PROPERLY this time, and tightened it down the right way using a ratchet with a hex bit instead of a janky hex wrench.
Picking up coolant tomorrow morning and will re-test the car. If still leaking, well, I already have an N55 pressure leak test kit coming in the mail. I figured for 35 bucks I should probably have one anyway because I drive a doomsday devi - i mean an N55.

Good work, you never know what you will get with a modified car, at least you will know it's all good when you put it back together.

honestly tho, around 3 hours and I had the thing completely taken apart, and this was outside, birds chirping, while drinking beer on a Saturday, in march, with a t shirt. It was freaking great.

4 active posters on here and the only thing you guys have to post about is a broken mitsu turd haha.

Spun a rod bearing first time driving it more or less. Retard who assembled the block didn't check the main clearances, just believing that the manley crank was good because it was new. They were all over the place.

Oh well. At least it happened under zero load, and everything is just fine. sending the crank out tomorrow for grinding and re-nitriding, and same with the rods. Block is perfect, and so are the bores. Machine work was good, just a stupid PO who assembled. it.

He also put the floater plate on the QM twin disc on backwards LOL. Which is amazing to me, how do you buy a new clutch like that and install it wrong? Its literally brand new, looks like it never had a single pull done.

Give me another couple weeks and hopefully all is well!

Snap knocked out some powdercoating on the quick - so had to test fit.  Can't wait to get everything back from zinc coating and start reassembling.  Still need to de-bracket the PS of the bay - and clean.

I've been slowing plugging away at the install of all my new parts. Inlets were a bitch, just like I expected. Not all the way done yet, but very close. Waiting on some new silicone vacuum line I ordered before I button them up. I'll add pictures of this install later.
Since I'm waiting on vacuum hose, I took off my intake manifold to tap a larger 1/4" vacuum port for my new Tial BOV. The factory nipple isn't big enough.

Oh... and once the manifold was off, I saw how gross my valves were! Take a look.

I don't think A-Spec tuning really cleaned them, but I have no proof. So, I just bought everything needed to do walnut blasting, including the BMW adapter tools. More to come on that this weekend, but I'm willing to hook up WIBimmers peeps with direct injection vehicles!
Also, I have the following parts on the way:
Flex fuel sensor and quick-connect fuel connectors (for Bluetooth ethanol content analyzer kit) 2-step and No-Lift Shift relay (for bang-pop noises) New OEM boost pressure solenoids (mine are currently leaking) 3.5 BAR TMAP sensor and harness adapter (for higher boost readings) Heavy duty RB PCV valve New driver's side mirror glass (mine is currently rusty/peeling) Downpipe gaskets/hardware Throttle body gasket Intake manifold gaskets Everything for oil changes on my 135i and 325xiT So many parts to install, including all my new brake stuff!

    UPDATE: 10/14/2020
I'd like to take a moment to let everyone know that I am no longer running Garage Life Motoring.  With my current job it would be a conflict of interest so regretfully, I had to let it go.  Thankfully I was able to find someone to take the business over and continue to support the community and grow the business!  My brother in law, Devin, has officially taken over the business as of 10/1/2020!  He's a car guy himself and has a passion for euro's.  Audi/VW in particular but please don't hold that against him.  Him and his wife run a photography business full time doing weddings, getaways, elopements and engagements around the world.  He's even had the opportunity to shoot engagement photo's for racecar driver, Kenton Koch!  You can check them out on Instagram and Facebook at degrootfilmco.  Devin can be reached at the same email address I was using, garagelifemotoring@gmail.com.
At this time I'd like to take a moment to personally thank all of you who have supported me throughout this experience!  I have truly been humbled by the amount of support I've received from all of you!  I never would have expected that this small business could have helped me build so many long lasting relationships!  There are quite a few of you that I've grown close to over the years simply because of this business and that's what I'm taking away from this experience.  Thank you!
I'll still be around here obviously and I've committed to Devin to "officially" support him with technical assistance for the next few months but beyond that, unofficially I'm still available to him for any technical support you guys may need.  Some of you have worked with him already and some of you have even met him in person at car shows or at Road America and I trust that you are all in good hands.

Hello!  I'm excited to announce that I am open for business!  I've started a small business selling performance parts with tons of vendors for various makes and models! More details to come!
    UPDATE:
We're currently working on putting our e-store together and curating our assortment!  It's exciting stuff for us but a bit tedious.  We're trying to narrow down which models we want to advertise parts for but we can get parts for over 400 manufacturers and 900 lines!  Some of these include:  HRE, Advan, DINAN, AFE, Cobb, BMS, APR, KW/ST, Koni, Corsa, Borla, H&R and MANY MORE!

    Update: turbo is installed!
There was a significant delay in receiving the new hardware and lines for the turbo that I required. Finally arrived yesterday so I got everything back together and filled with fluid, primed the water pump, and then today TJ stopped by right as I was priming the turbo so he got to be the first witness to the car starting up. Everything appears to be in order - no leaks, no unexpected noises/grinding/explosions/fire, and no warning lights. I've gone through a couple cooldown cycles of the engine over the past 6 hours consecutively idling for 2 minutes, 15 minutes, and 30 minutes (just finished the 30 minute run). I'm calling it good.
    Things still to be done:
-Re-install subframe and hook up suspension bits and get the front of the car back on the ground.
-install JB4, colder spark plugs, flex fuel wires, N20 3.5 tmap sensor, and Fuel-It stg2 fuel pump
    -map appropriate tune.
-get to Big Bear Tire on April 8th for an alignment

    So heres an update:
Well I think my account was deleted due to inactivity, had to create a new account. Not a lot happened has happened with the car in the past year. I sold the LM replicas, didn't have the money at the time to do anything suspension wise and it killed me to have those wheels on stock suspension. Well I have a co-op with Mercury Marine now making a pretty good wage throughout the week and I still have my Bergstrom job which will be paying dividends for access to tools/lift/alignment rack/etc.
The car bug has recently bitten me again and now making better money I plan to actually do something with the car this spring/summer.
Headed down to Illinois this Saturday to pick up some new wheels, style 68's.
    Bergstrom lifts making life easier

    First impressions looking good

    Yeah, that looks better

Taking care of the rust this summer

I found out that I had a broken spring at the way bottom of the coil in the rear. Car rides fine, but probably is the explanation for why it sits at a different height by a finger on that side than the other. So the plan is to go with the FK coilovers for the price and basic lowering. This is just a daily, have heard the Fk's ride similar to the sport suspension but slightly stiffer.
Other mods to come this summer. This lip, which is apparently one of the only options for the stock bumper. For $80 though I can't complain

For 80 dollars I'll also be picking up some new headlight lenses because mine are super pitted and hazy. (have tried to buff and cut them already)
Also would like to pick up a set of LED tails, they are only like $150 on Ebay, so I dont see why not.
For maintenance I need to replace the lower front control arm bushings. Was quoted $1500 at Bergstrom when I got my ebrake fixed, fuck that. Have seen the DIY's and they its a 2-4 hour job, and the bushings themselves are 70 dollars.

So thats the status of the car as of now, excited to finally make some changes that will reflect the way I want the car to look. Excited for this summer.
