Bassboy3313 reacted to i_love_cars in dat grocery getter doe'
Bassboy and I are gonna tear shit up at snow drift this winter assuming no punk kids bring their janky bmws and spray coolant and oil everywhere again
Yes I had to fly to Maryland for this car and yes it was worth it. Ordered a short throw and a more customized shift knob yesterday. Up-pipe & downpipe & open source tune to come. Leaving it alone after that because #135iBRAAAAAAAAAP

I'll get the head torque process started today or Thursday. I'm driving it in 2 weeks

Bassboy3313 reacted to GunMetalGrey in Build Thread?
Went to the junkyard yesterday after I remembered that I had pulled a M50NV valve cover from what appeared to be a good motor.
I was hoping that the cam was in good shape, or there at all.
I got lucky, the cam was there, untouched, with the cam cover over it. It took me about 20 minutes to tear the top end down and remove the cam, tray, lifters, and bearing caps. All of the parts are in better condition than what was in my motor.
Went up to the counter to pay for it, having no idea what they would ask for it. Ended up paying $50 for all of it.
Ordered the gaskets and timing chain guide and a few other little bits for the motor to be put back together.
Helicoiled the front timing cover, I started with the stripped hole, then decided to do all of them because chances are they would all strip anyway. I will be starting with those bolts first anyway

Bassboy3313 reacted to B C in Stance Tax To The Max: E30 M3 $224k on ebay
I dont consider it stanced either but when an E30 is above fair market value, the reason is the mandatory stance tax from the RWD Tax Act of 2004. Overpriced 240sx, and ae86 are subject to a similar mandatory drift tax under the same legislation. I dont make the rules.

Bassboy3313 got a reaction from DrLeadFoot in E21 Project Thread - Part 2
Well after some trial and error, flipping relays around and getting different injectors that DON'T leak, she lives!! Gotta keep the rpms up otherwise it dies right away, but she runs nonetheless. Having trouble with my laptop connecting to Megasquirt and tunerstudio, so haven't updated the correct tune yet. Always something!

Maybe I should swap my front end with this front end so Its more of a sleeper look.. haha. Good daily's though! I know for a fact an lsx and a m50/zf will fit in the back at the same time!
Was real interesting when I got pulled over with all that nonsense in the back.
first thing cop says, "what the hell could you be doing with a v8 and a vacuum cleaner in your car?"

awesome pickup! We must be on the same wavelength cuz I'm flying out to Maryland on the 21st to pick up a 2005 legacy GT limited (sadly not a wagon, though). I considered a couple of those SAABARUS in my search but couldn't find anything as clean as what I found in the legacy GT space

Bassboy3313 reacted to B C in Car Show Mini-Rant
Kaiser sent me a pic from a car show in Eau Claire a few weeks ago with a Pontiac G6 parked next to a Lotus and similar caliber cars
Its entirely possible to love a G6 and take pride in it and thats good and fine, but its the same reason I never entered my completely stock 325i automatic into the concours show years ago.
I love(d) the car to pieces but it just doesnt fit in next to Clemens' modded 1M, restored 2002s, and some very well kept examples of other cars.
I mostly go to socialize and try to get bagels. I was successful in my bagel pursuit this year at concours.

Bassboy3313 reacted to B C in Ceramic Coated Manifold Data
Along with powdercoating I have started doing thermal barrier ceramic coatings and will soon begin high-emissivity coatings.
The basic theory and application of ceramic coatings is to reduce the amount of energy that escapes through the walls of the header/manifold pipes in order to keep exhaust gas velocity high for exhaust scavenging during overlap on NA engines and to lower your spool rpm on a turbo engine by increasing the energy hitting the turbine.
I will spare you all the boredom of the test procedure and setup but you are welcome to ask any questions you may have if you would like to know more.
Test data for uncoated vs coated is shown below with a 450F input temperature in the port for cylinder 1. Surface temperature @ mid span of tube 1 and internal temperature at the outlet were recorded.
As expected, more heat(energy) made it to the outlet with the ceramic coating.
What wasn't expected was more heat on the surface of the tube.
With the uncoated manifold, the heat was conducted throughout the entire manifold quite uniformly even though the 450F was only being introduced into the tube for cylinder 1. The energy that should be going through the outlet was being equally dispersed throughout the steel and the ambient air both inside and outside of the tubes caused the manifold to act like a large radiator. The tube for cylinder 6, despite being the farthest away from the heat source, was very hot to the touch.
With the coated manifold, the thermal conductivity through the manifold is significantly reduced which keeps much more of the heat(energy) inside the tube for cylinder 1. The energy that used to be conducting freely throughout the manifold was staying in the tube for cylinder 1. With more energy staying in that 1 tube, naturally the outlet temp and the surface temp are going to be higher since the energy concentration is higher.
If the experiment was conducted with heat sources in all 6 cylinders I would expect the uncoated manifold to become thermally saturated and have a much higher surface temperature than the coated manifold.
Evidence of the improved energy containment within the tube is shown below.
A minute after removing heat, the surface temp of tube 1 was 253F. Cyl 6 and the wastegate tube (which contacts tube 1) were very close to ambient. Interestingly enough tube 2 conducted very little heat from tube through the flange or collector as it was only 94F.
Cliffs notes: let me give you horsepower

Vent oil temp gauge install:
Mark your spots to cut
Cut
Small cuts and some sanding of the upper and lower edges and she fits!
Now on to the fun part.
That's all for now, folks!

I do not agree with the term "lugnuts". They do not grow on trees and they are not eaten by squirrels. Therefore they shall now be called "ANDYLOVESPENIS".... And I have a MS paint drawing to back up my opinion:

I share the same concerns that a lot of you do... I hope there customer service doesn't go to shit. I have been buying from them for years now and even if they have made a mistake they have gotten me taken care of. They have also helped me in a pinch a few times with free next day shipping or discounted shipping prices.
Story time.
The week before my son was born my water pump died. I shopped around for the part and found a package deal at TMS for the water pump, thermostat and hose for a very reasonable price. I ordered the parts on the Thursday morning going into the memorial day weekend. I called to see if they could ship it out right away from me to guarantee I would have it before the weekend. The sales rep said with standard shipping I wouldn't have the package until the following Wednesday because of the holiday weekend and he said that he could change it to overnight or 2 day if I could pay the difference in shipping. I told him that I couldn't really swing the extra shipping costs as the amount I was spending on the water pump/thermostat was already unexpected (over $500) and with my son due any day I just couldn't do it. He asked me a few questions about my son and then told me he would go ahead and cover the difference for the 2 day shipping so I could have it by Saturday. I thanked him profusely and he graciously accepted. He then interrupted me and said, "Well what do you think about us throwing in a shirt for the little guy?" I asked how much and he said, "Don't worry about it, it's our gift to you! Congratulations!". We picked out a TMS Future Race Car Driver shirt in the smallest size they had and decided he would just have to grow into it. A couple days later my package showed up with the shirt.
This is why I buy from Turner Motorsports and I have more stories like it. I have worked in retail for most of my life and in an auto repair retail setting for almost 10 years now and I couldn't begin to tell you how many seminars I have sat through about how to deliver good customer service. These guys nail it every time. It's not that they go above and beyond and give a "WOW!" factor with every purchase but they are consistently excellent.

Interesting news from yesterday, ECS squired Turner Motorsports. No worries Pat, they aren't gonna touch the racing team! Very curious to see how some product pricing might change.
