What did I stumble upon here???

"rim" isn't even considered a synonym of "wheel" in a dictionary. They are related but indicate two different objects. Opinion doesn't matter when dealing in officially documented language definitions - they have to be presented in absolute, finite terms so that we can have consistency in communication broadly across a large group of people in our society. Anyone who doesn't agree with that I will immediately assume also "feels" that every service provider/company in America should speak 3 languages because people who leave their own countries to come here are too indignant, self-entitled, and lazy to learn common English, better known as the mainstay language of this country for hundreds of years. And for the countless people who don't get that, there's probably not much hope for their success in life.

"Rim" in terms of a wheel is slang in the auto community, and nothing more. There's nothing wrong with that because people in those circles know what you're talking about. But go outside those circles and talk about "rim" and people will wonder if you're talking about part of a basketball hoop, and in the real world, shit like that will get you discredited as being an idiot who doesn't know her/his audience.

People develop their own slang and language-isms in groups/communities ( like the use of "rim" in the context of wheel), which is totally fine (and unavoidable). It's possible that one day "rim" will be added as a synonym of wheel, the same way "lol" has been added in official capacity to the dictionary. That's just how language evolves. In the meantime,  it's pretty black/white that it's purely slang in the auto community and nothing more.

What the hell is going on here?

Back on topic...Earl likes his cars like he likes himself. Stretched, poked, and slammed.

why is it that when people simply disagree about things on this forum, people throw their arms up in the air like "wtf are you doing?" and try to change the topic or make subtle remarks to try to get people to stop that particular discussion altogether?

In the future I will make sure to only participate in discussions where we are circle-jerking about how great BMWs are and how much Earl likes being stretched, poked and slammed.

Personally I don't care, as long as it's not harassment/within the rules. It's always been open season around here.
