I am seriously impressed with the inspection report.  That's so cool and I can only see that business continuing to grow as buying site unseen becomes more popular.

I was too! I forgot to mention that I scheduled this on a Thursday morning and they didn’t get the inspection done until Monday and then it was Tuesday afternoon when I got the published report. They advertise as trying to do inspections next day and given it was the NYC I’m sure they are busy all the time but the reports don’t get processed until the start of the next business day after the inspection is done.

I'm also not clear on if a ASE tech actually looks at the car or just reviews the report but still very happy with the service. Photos like that were worth the price and peace of mind.

Hell yes! I have been eyeing one of these up myself. Congrats and I love the color combo!

I forgot to mention there wasn’t any 35i or 35d E70’s for sale in the entire state this month, at least via AutoTempest search until a week ago a X5 35d popped up as a trade in Sheboygan. It’s a no option corporate lease though with an accident. There’s quite a few around chicago but most of them seemed to be along either coast or down south at least for diesels specifically.

  3. The time has come to replace my wife's W body Impala and we both wanted a SUV as a replacement. I kept in mind that I wanted to go used BMW over newer economy because while I find the interiors nice in newer economy cars the road noise still speaks to the quality underneath.  It's the curse of growing up with these fine used automobiles knowing how things could be. The goals for this vehicle were really for long trips on vacations or at least day trips. After being impressed with that F10's condition I rented off Turo and @timmer's diesel thread, a E70 35d was the only vehicle we considered looking at. The desire also formed long ago when I worked at the dealership too, I loved driving the E90 and E70 diesels when they were new. They were my go-to errand runners when I had the choice. Father @andyhundley also told me they regularly service 10 of these at his job with no major issues after the EGR is "fixed".

I know its a pretty crazy car market right now but I don't feel like the prices on these have inflated much if any. The v8 X5's are the bottom because of their reliability and the diesels are just above that because its different. I saw many 80-120k examples for $12-15k on the market. CoPart auctions were often going for $8-10k as well for clean titled vehicles. Cinnamon Brown Nevada Leather interior was a must for me so that narrowed my search by quite a bit though. I initially looked in November and prices were a little lower on average then but I didn't see any winners at the time. Around the holidays this popped up in New Jersey though and after a week of contemplation I finally made the call.

Being a 1 owner, clean carfax with recent service and being at a Euro specific car dealership really sweetened the deal. I'm really glad I looked back on @suspenceful's E70 thread as well because he mentioned using Lemon Squad for a PPI. Jeff at Torch Light Motors was happy to have them come out and inspect the vehicle and I was impressed with their report. I've attached it for those interested, really detailed and 94 pictures all around and under along with 3 short videos.

Timing worked out pretty perfectly too as @BMWben is currently stationed out in Newport, RI for training before he moves to Japan. Along with a few other things out east I wanted to do, I figured why rent when I can buy? That and along with the Impala giving my wife some more trouble we decide to pull the trigger. Im flying out to Newark, NJ on the 28th and I'll spend a week out east and drive home on the 6th after a weekend of skiing in upstate New York at Whiteface.

  4. This would be something to consider as well. I've never been to the foundation's museum.

  5. Bringing this back from the dead...

I got this vin's in July 2021 from Gibson's in Neenah. I only took inventory of cars I was interested in though so e39 and older. There were plenty of E46's around as well and a couple E60's. Now that I can easily convert pics to text I'll take down all the vins next time I go.

looks like the closest trans is in Iowa. If it really is out of a 52k mi car id consider that being worth the $850 price tag… not many listed right now and they’re all that expensive. Idk what people are asking for swap kits these days but it used to be $800 for everything all day long.

I think I told you I took inventory of the vins at Gibson’s, I’ll go throw those in the junk yard thread. I know there was 1 or two e30’s this past fall. Honestly I would just find a trans, pedal box and driveshaft and order everything else new. Maybe a good used flywheel too but I wouldn’t bother with used clutch hydraulics.

I absolutely love this car!  Factory mint paint AND it's a euro spec s50b32!  It's so 90's and I love it.  I think they fucked up by putting out a "coming soon..." craigslist ad advertising it for $96k though.  The auction has a reserve and I won't be surprised if it doesn't hit that reserve.  The story they're telling is neat about finding the car, storing it, etc.

I'm not usually a fan of mint but that is stunning on that car

Hmm, will I have the e30 back together by then? Maybe this would be a good goal… nothing like a 1000+ mile shakedown run, right?

I’ll challenge you, I was thinking this would be a good goal for getting the 540i back together. It needs to stretch its legs as well.

Mine is shipped! Latvia package showed up 3 days early! That gta shirt is awesome! That e30 is a wonderful color too. 😄

Thanks Santa! Always need another bottle opener and flashlight. The clear corners were the perfect gift too, the set I have has rotted foam gaskets which you can't buy separately and these newer Depo's have rubber gaskets 👍

Latest gadget I made with my printer... Christmas gift for my niece. Lights have settings to interact with music or color change in different patterns. Astronaut was printed in 8 different pieces to make printing and assembly easier. Then adhered together with super glue.

Very cool! have you done much with clear filament?
