Whats the 1-10 difficulty level on this job? Any good guides out there?
It’s easy. Just take your time and keep track of the order of the parts. Tons of good info on it as well.
these are the main ones I used. One link is a total rebuild that involves setting preload. With the replacement I did above I don’t need to mess with that.
part I was most nervous about was stripping the stock hardware on the carrier. I had an extra set of hands and they all came out without any issue. This hardware gets replaced with Thayers stuff anyways

Got around to pulling the diff out.
comes apart quickly. Thanks @B C for removing the grime from a previous life.
gutted, reassembly of the internals is exactly the opposite of disassembly, less replacing the spacer with a third friction disc & dog ear plate.
also replaced these clips that retain the axle stubs. They came with with new seals for the output flanges so why not.
^engage safety squints for those
slapped new o rings on the output flanges too for good measure. Need to find a drift/socket large enough and pop the shaft seals out and replace them as well.
slapped the carrier back together with the new discs that’s where I left off for tonight. Once I get the seals in, it is ready to get slapped back into the case. Then I can start on replacing the pinion seal. Punched/marked so I don’t screw up the preload
here are the worn out discs that gave up the ghost at 41ftlbs (breakaway tq)

Any of you cool cats or kittens ever played around with Federal tires?
Looking at the Federal Evo ST-1, can get 4 of em in my oddball desired size of 235/40/19 for under $400 shipped. I'm assuming they're not fantastic, super sticky, long living tires. But, they might be a good stop gap for me to see if I want to go up to that size from my 225s.
I’m sure they’ll be fine

I think @patsbimmer1 and @B C we’re planning on going to one. I know @Boris3 just posted some info about one as well at BHF

Started pulling the diff, which turned into pulling the axles because I observed some weathered boots, flung grease and the axle stub bolts were coated in watery axle grease. Luckily I have enough GKN/EMPI repair kits to replace/repack every boot. It’ll be nice to check this off the list, car is getting closer to 99.9% “done”.
side note: cv grease sucks -

I did a polycuramine coating in my garage and am happy with it after 2 years of abuse so far.
You can buy Rustoleum stuff off the shelf and they have two types: standard epoxy and polycuramine. The polycuramine is significantly more expensive, but I wouldn't put down their epoxy given what I've heard from friends who did it and saw it start chipping rather quickly.
This. I’ve seen the cheap stuff chip within a few years almost every time

Do you know if there will be photos from this RA event?
Probably, I think Austin was at the event.

If anyone wants to be on a waitlist for Shawano autox on June 28:
this went live at like 7pm on Sunday, by the time I registered around 9pm, I was #76 of 85 entrants

What rear end are you running?
How close were you to using all of second on some of the straights?
3.25 with a ZF trans. Probably had another 700rpm to go before limiter is my guess

A dab of oversteer here and there. Did anyone spin?
Yes there were lots of spins and 6 or 7 cars broke on course. “self tech” due to the pandemic seems to be more hazardous for your health
