Well we plan on buying a new printer at my work that can do some really impressive stuff. It can 3D print 18 types of materials at once and has a color spectrum range that is in the thousands. Luckily I found the perfect excuse to test it out.

I plan on making a new set of gauge faces for my cluster. Since I just got a new Si board and fixed a bunch of small odds and ends in my interior, I figured this is the perfect opportunity to update the old tach, speedo, fuel, and temp faces.

I started by measuring, tracing and finding reference images to base my design from.

Then I started to take mine apart, clean it, and remove the old faces and needles. You must make sure you mark the positions of all the needle past the posts that hold them at zero...

I created a template and measured the increments and used scanned in images of my exsisting faces for make sure my new faces would be accurate...

    I then started designing.....

When I felt like I was getting close to something I liked, I printed out a few test transparencies and paper versions to mount and see how it looked....

Getting closer but not 100%. The sad Part is I jumped the gun and the printer hasn't even arrived yet. So for now, I will have to wait to proceed any further. I also plan on updating all the interior lights from the old red to a white or green hue. So I guess I will tackle that while I wait.

(Also note the hub adapter I machined at the bottom of the last image)

thanks for the replies guys. I'll be thinking about what to do with it over the next couple of days. It'd be a shame to junk it, since it still runs like I didn't rear end somebody!!! Any recommendation on how to get the hood open? The latch is stuck. Should I just take a crowbar to it since the hood is done anyways?

Does anybody know if stewcrew has a parts car?

That green e30 had me drooling a couple of months ago when it was parked on Brady St. outside of World of Beer.

Congrats, this looks like an awesome space for a first house. I am jelly!! I only rent, but I have my feelers out for the right garage with a house attached too

Thank you to all that attended! as always there are a few things that I feel we(the GTG crew) could have done better at but in my opinion this was the smoothest scooters yet and that is mostly due to you, the guys and girls that attend. Every one seemingly had a good time and was very respectful of other enthusiasts, staff and most importantly our hosts/neighbors. We could not put this event on with out your attendance and we could not continue to host the GTG without everyone playing by the rules. We also had a best yet turnout for BMW's and that is something I personally like to see so thanks and if you have any suggestions or comments about the event I am all ears.

Could one easily import an e36 touring, seeing as how the e36 chassis were sold here originally?

I figure a standard e36 wouldn't be too hard, but diesel, RHD, and a touring all combined.... sex

I shouldn't have any trouble doing a one wheel wonder with the 4.10 gears.  Too bad this one didn't have an LSD, or maybe it is just worn out?  Tires turn opposite directions when off of the ground.

It is a brand. It is one of the best trim paints. It is lacquer based so it is thin and will be the same texture as your lip is now. O'Reillys is a supplier for it but they may need to order you a can. I had them order it for me when I was working on my hatch trim.
