xgeetx
Accident today. Advice? Body shop said $1500 parts alone. Junk it? Any help appreciated will post more info soon.
0 xgeetx
More info:rear ended someone (obviously). Car is still driveable, but I had to pull some metal up off the tire. Engine temperature gauge read operating the whole time I attempted to drive it, but I started to see smoke and my "check coolant" indicator came off so I pulled it over for a tow. The smoke went away very quickly, so I think it was the windshield washer fluid splashed onto the engine... but that's just wishful thinking, not entirely sure. Anybody dealt with something like this? I love this car
0 Earl
That is fixable but it is all what you are willing to pay. Insurance will probably total it. Sad to see that happen since your car was relatively clean=/
0 johnprusinski
stewcrew has a red e36 that has rear end damage. you might be able to get parts off of that and have them painted.
0 mkoepp
Sorry to see this. Should be repairable with junk yard parts. Try to find the right color doner and save money on paint.
0 Earl
The hardest repair will be where the fender mounts if it is bent. You can see it in this pic
0 B C
That is a bummer. glad it wasn't more serious and that you presumably aren't injured (i didnt see a "need front teeth" thread in the WTB section). If you were driving drunk/texting/roadknob/sleeping/playing candy crush then I hope you learned your lesson. How much would you have tried to sell the car for when it had straighter body panels? prepare yourself for a second potential jimmy rustler:If it were me, I would use the opportunity to get another car that isnt green. xgeetx

Ha, not a fan of green? And no to all of your situations, thankfully... but a lesson was learned none-the-less. I wasn't really interested in selling, but had what i 'hoped' the car was worth . The latch on the hood is obviously jammed, so I haven't gotten the hood up to assess damage. Hoping the radiator isn't cracked or anything. 0 xgeetx
The hardest repair will be where the fender mounts if it is bent. You can see it in this pic Thanks for the pic, Earl! Not really sure if those guys are bent or not... it'll be close and I doubt they totally survived. Are you talking about the top bar or the circular part with 4 studs in it? 0 B C
Thanks for not taking offense to my comments, they weren't intended to be offensive.Green looks amazing on JDesigns vert and fitting on some cars, but not among my top choices on an E36 (unless its the M3 GT green) Good opportunity to turn this into a track car if you are into that sort of thing. I was once in a similar situation when I was 16 and had a rabbit with frame damage. I bought another with a bad trans for cheap and combined good parts onto the straight chassis. That worked out well for me.
0 patsbimmer1
It looks like it may be repairable but that core support is definitely bent. This will not be a simple swap of parts and there is no cheap way around fixing this.
0 andyhundley
Try calling Certifit for the core support. They aren't the best quality but you get what you pay for. Also hit up stew crew. He has a e36 parts car
0 B C
oh, also stewcrew has a parts car you should hit him up
0 patsbimmer1
I think I heard that stewcrew has a parts car but I can't remember.
0 Earl
I didnt mean the frame horn (circle with four studs) since the bumper shocks would have kept then from being damaged. I was talking about the portion that runs along the sides of the bay/over the wheels. The very end of yours is probably bent
0 xgeetx
thanks for the replies guys. I'll be thinking about what to do with it over the next couple of days. It'd be a shame to junk it, since it still runs like I didn't rear end somebody!!! Any recommendation on how to get the hood open? The latch is stuck. Should I just take a crowbar to it since the hood is done anyways? Does anybody know if stewcrew has a parts car? Jdesign and B C
0 YoungCR
I'd pull out the kidneys and see if you can access the hood latch from there or see if you could pry it out from there. Hood and core support are junk anyways and StewCrew has a parts car for ya.
0 Earl
I agree with taking the kidneys out. You should be able to pry at the assembly from there
0 wasnt m3
Could always cut the hood. It's not like stewcrew doesn't have a parts car.
0 xgeetx
Oh man. I'm laughing out loud at this point. What is the stewcrew joke that I don't get?
0 Earl
Jake Stewart (stewcrew) has an e36 parts car.
0 KaiserRolls
You might not want the fenders. We rolled them. With a hammer. And a forklift. So. Yep. Maybe some parts are salvageable. But most certainly not the areas we hit with a hammer. Or. A huge forklift. johnprusinski and YoungCR
0 I love my E39
I have a less beat up hood for this if needed for free lol. I say pull it out ghetto rig a driving light and keep on driving. 0 jc43089
I have a hood and fenders that are black, pretty decent shape, a little rust on the inside of the lower part of the fenders. Free if you want them.
0 KaiserRolls
Also. Hope it gets fixed. And not scrapped.
