YoungCR got a reaction from Jdesign in From all of us here at WI BIMMERS, I'm Ron Burgundy. Stay classy, San Diego.
Didn’t realize it had been 3 years already! This will certainly do well, such a great spec.

What's better than having 5 vehicles? Having 6!
A poor picture for intro, but its the only one I have right meow

This was a spur of the moment decision, and is planned to replace my truck and 1 series.
2011 x5 35d Sports package, HUD, 360 cam, premium package, pano sunroof, and a set of snow tires + to go with it

E70 35d’s are still in a good sweet spot. Still a very modern car and I don’t see much benefits/differences with the F15 gen after that especially since they sell for twice as much.
Price wise They were on the rise a little after I bought mine but the cost of diesel understandably has motioned some people to sell them off. Just looking on auto tempest there are quick a few close by right now but plenty nationwide to find the right spec.
$12k is gonna limit you to higher mileage ones though regardless. Some people said the more miles the better in some threads I read but I personally didn’t care about mileage vs overall condition.
I used the guide below for what packages I ideally wanted and ended up getting.

We’re super happy with the e70 35d we got, just a few nit picky things I posted in my thread but I got one that was very well taken care of. Check engine light has flashed a few times but I bought it knowing it was an emissions time bomb at 130k+.

    Yup, six bent exhaust valves.

More concerning is the nicks in the pistons that I think are beyond salvageable.

I'm afraid this rotating assembly is toast.

^ thats the same tee used in the stock position in the rear. I hear ya on the diy flaring, you’re right though the tools have always been the problem. The split die style flaring tool makes perfect flares about 95% of the time. The only time it doesn’t work is because the line wasn’t square. Remembering to put the flare nut on the line is the hardest part 😂

Dropping it out of the bottom Is the way to go

ABS pump is already gone, as well as all the front brake lines. Working on getting the bias adjuster mounted and remote cable ran.
quick bend of the rear line gets the angle right for the cable to run to an already existing grommet in the firewall next to the main fuse box harness

If it has serviceable unjoints and is less than a rebuild, the cost over a used driveshaft seems worth the investment to me if you can swing it now. Rebuilds will be far cheaper.
also forgot to reply sooner but glad the bushing job wasn’t too much of a pain! Really surprised one came out in one piece for you.

Finally got the title for this thing. Shout out to Fran at Thompson BMW for getting me most of the records in like 5min after I emailed her. I'll keep the log as a separate post I can reference to as well as anybody else looking for transparency on owning one of these. Looks like the oil has been changed consistently every 10-12k although I must be missing some records yet. I don't have a record for the first time the glow plugs were recommended and I'm guessing the oil was changed at some point between 111-133k. Might have to cold call any other dealers near by to see if this was serviced locally but not reported on the CarFax. Also the glow plug faults were not noted in my LemonSquad inspection so guessing a low level OBDII reader was used and didn't show up. I'll need to see what the car currently has for faults if any others.
Pics of the "big issues". I find it funny after 20+ years after the E32/E34 they still haven't made trim clear that lasts 🤣 The glove box door is annoying but not worth buying a new part. Hopefully I can find a used replacement at some point. Other than that, the trunk rattle has gotten worse over the 2,000+ miles I've put on it already. Once its somewhat decent outside I'll see if I can adjust a few things.

I get the idea behind the rear design but it does come out looking like you’re staring down a stink star. Disappointing because the e92 is one of my favorites too. Seems like he took some inspiration from the Baldessari car.
