The issue I see is that if you cover ANY already compromised area it will accelerate the rusting process by trapping moisture. So be careful about slathering on undercoating, it may actually hurt rather than help. On a car that has some slight problems already a better choice would be something like fluid film which you spray on in the fall and it lasts through the winter. It creates a film to seal water from the metal, even existing rust. It doesn't dry though so it needs to be reapplied. No damage to paint, plastic, rubber etc. It is made from sheep wool wax I believe.

GunMetalGrey got a reaction from DrLeadFoot in Build Thread?
On it's way. Even from that picture and the previous pictures you can see exactly what I am talking about on the top of it.
I ended up getting it from a different supplier, at $240 shipped. Went to the dealer to see what they would charge, it was $120 more but as it turns out there are still 722 late model core supports left in the world. That is quite a few!
I tossed some primer down into the engine bay to take a better look at my filler jobs! Will post pictures of that tomorrow most likely, I didn't feel like hanging around the fumes to find out how it looked! I did finish swapping over the seats from HipMF's car into mine! Much better condition seats, and I also vacuumed the carpet, and re-installed the under dash cover that goes above the pedals. Looks much better!
Oh! I also ordered this! Finally something to put in the center of my steering wheel!

That is kind of cool that the two halves of the bearing turned into one!
That looks nasty, but its good that the top end still had oil in it!

Interesting, this is why I do everything myself, I just don't trust anyone else to do it how I would. The only thing I can't do is mount tires and do an alignment, my neighbor works at a shop and I get those things done by him.

GunMetalGrey got a reaction from B C in My name is Earl, and I have a Stainless Steel bolt fetish =)
This is a totally BS number lol, two decimal places when measuring in MM is pretty nuts let alone four places!
Pedal is looking good, ya know, as far as brake pedals go!

There is no such thing as "super good ones", coated ones are a waste of money and have no benefit, come to think of it I have only heard negatives lol.
If you wanted to you could replace them with oem ones.
A piston ring is pretty much a piston ring, there are no rings made for boost or NA
I wouldn't mess with the crank, they have harmonic issues at high rpms as is, can't imagine lightening it would be better.
Solid lifters cost a lot and require grinding of shim caps to set lash.
How high do you want it to rev? High RPM's is where it's harmonic issues will really start to shine, and you will need to purchase an aftermarket vibration damper (~$850)
Food for thought.

I just really want to try a true M car, vs trying to make one like an M.
It is a high price to pay, but when you look at the engine and its power figures it is not surprising that it takes a lot to maintain it.
