Wheels thread: Where to buy, what you're running, what you want. EVERYTHING WHEELS.

For BMW, best bang for your buck IMO is Apex. model-specific offsets right off the shelf, and wheels design specifically to look really good on BMW ala every EC-7 and ARC-8 ever made.

For my car (and most other modern BMWs), I feel that split-spoke design of the EC-7 / ARC-8 is spot on.

For a more classic BMW look, like an E30, I would for sure pick up something like a BBS Super RS.

I currently have VMR-710 and love the fitment and the dark shade of gunmetal. Looks stellar against crimson red paint. What I am not happy about is the fact that there is clearcoat peeling. That said, the EC-7 is comparable in gunmetal so I will probably look to put EC-7 on for the street, and VMR-710 will be used for when I go to the track.

For most popular BMW brands, I find the best way to source wheels is group buys on 1addicts/bimmerpost, etc.

Those look great Earl. Anyways I have Forgestar F14 superdeep concaves in textured bronze on my 335i. And am trying to decide between 2 ESM wheels for my e30. Either the 002r or the 003r. I like the 002r a lot but that style seems to have been done to death on the e30 platform. The 003r is new for 2015. I get pretty good deals through Elliot at ModBargains being as I have ordered multiple wheel sets from him. First wheel is the 003r second is the 002r. What do you guys think? I'm leaning toward the 003r because it's differnt.

mike I guess it all depends on how much you value being different from the crowd - in the case of E30, I think the only time you'd notice how similar the 002r is to other E30 wheels is at a BMW gathering/show. I love the style and personally, I would be happy to look at 100 E30s with those wheels.

I think the 003r could work (can anyone photoshop that shit in???) , but there is just something really classic about the design in the 002r.

I smell what your steppin in. The 002r's look super clean on e30's. I do like having something differnt tho. But when I look at my car I want to see something I really like just not something that looks kind of good but differnt. Photo shop would be very helpful as there are no on car pics of the 003r out there yet. I even contacted ESM to see if they had any.

you said 'besides craigslist', but that's like saying, "where do you guys find your porn, besides the internet'

i've purchased almost every set of wheels/tires from craigslist, and, on average, sell them for no loss after using them for a while.

i never have to buy new tires or absorb mounting/disposal fees.

if you are good at searching, and don't let emotions buy for you, you can always find a deal.

you have to search all kinds of terms to dig into ads that someone doesn't know what they have, or doesn't really label properly.

bbs, bmw, bmw wheels, bmw rims, sport rims, summer wheels, summer tires, 4x100, 5x120, style ___, bmw oem, etc, etc

also a good technique is to ask someone with a whole car for sale to sell the wheels separately. doesn't work often, but is worth the try.

some notables:

e30 euroweaves/with almost new tires for $450

Kopi alpina reps for $500

e32 16x8 style 5s for $100 (twice)

e36 DS1s for $300

e39 2-piece style 5s with tires for $500

e39 2-piece style 42s for $400

My favorite set of wheels I owned was a set of 19" Staggered BBS LM's that I had for my e39.  I had to sell them to make payroll back in 08.....it was sad selling them

They were replaced by a set of 19" 5 spoke.  These were a craigslist buy for $400....deal of the century, and came just after I sold the BBS (Which was good because the car was on blocks.

I still have them, but can't find a local tire place that can remove the worn rears.  So they sit in my shed.

They were replaced by a set of black chrome HRE's

I recently had them refinished in gloss shadow black

I have a few sets of other wheels for other vehicles as well.  Anyone need a set of 20" factory Jeep GC wheels, or a set of 18" Z71 wheels?

I had 2 gunmetal rims and two silver rims. I knew I was never going to be able to find the exact color and I came across a stupid deal on 2 rims and 4 brand new tires today so I picked these up. Gives me more tire in the back until I pick up a set of something I really like.
