Great, stupidity-free meet. It was nice talking to everyone. Suprised to see Ben at a meetup, and Dave's car moving under it's own power! *mind blown*

...I got the transmission adapter plate! Very relieved to have this done. Jeff did an awesome job. I highly recommend him.
I threw a bunch of money at a proper pressure plate. It's a Sachs 707. I'll use this with a single mass flywheel from a Volvo 850 and the same organic e34 M5 clutch disc I used previously. Here's hoping it's not terrible to drive, but holds all the power I'll ever need.
I found a pilot bearing to suit the 5 cyl crank and getrag 265.
Pulled the old engine wiring out and labeled some things so I don't forget. I need to find a good place to mount the megasquirt shortly.

I helped Earl out this weekend and he had a bit of a moment. So like any good friend, I decided I should probably make a ringtone. This is what I have so far.

Forgot to add this pic of the current batch after bottling. The Two-Hearted bottle is for size-reference next to the 1-liter and 16-ounce EZ-Cap bottles.

I like beer. Do you like beer? Discussion of all things beer-related!
I've been sampling fancy-pants beers since the early aughts, and am quiet pleased the incredible growth of the craft beer industry that has happened since then. I recently received a "Mr. Beer" home-brewing kit as a gift, and have caught the bug. Initially I was afraid that getting into home-brewing might cause me to be over-analytical and objective about beer, but so far I've been enjoying it more than ever.
Here's my first batch with the "Mr. Beer" kit (aka the Betty Crocker, just-add-water method):
The result was okay. Before bottling it had a bit of a white wine taste, but also a definite alcohol taste. After bottling, there's a slight off-flavor that I initially thought was from the sanitizer, but it seems a bit acidic, so I'm thinking maybe there was some contamination during the ferment. Regardless, it's drinkable and it hasn't made me sick, so I'm calling it a win.
My second attempt was an all-grain batch that ended in total disaster due to me not realizing that mashing and boiling the wort were two different steps. Yikes. Luckily, I learned where I'd gone wrong before the "wort" ever made it into the fermenter.
The third attempt was a DIY liquid extract recipe that I came up with using an online brewing calculator and the BJCP style guidelines for an American Pale Ale. Here it is in the "Mr. Beer" fermenter next to some 4-gallon water bottles that I've picked to use as fermenters for my next batch ($3.69 ea at Woodman's, I bought 4!):
The OG on this one was 1.061, which was substantially higher than what I was aiming for, and the FG:
1.011? Much lower than what I was expecting. What the hell does that mean? It means it's going to be really dry and/or have a really high alcohol content. Regardless, it tasted pretty good coming out of the fermenter, so I think it will turn out better than the "Mr. Beer" stuff.
Next batch I'm planning to do the same recipe except water it down a bit and add a bit more hops.
It's been a lot of fun already, and I'm just getting started!

Alternators are just another unnecesary modern convienience. I once drove an 80s Chevy van from Chicago to Appleton with a conked out alternator. It was EFI too, so it was running the fuel pump, injectors, etc the whole time, and it was my dad's van, so it had the cheapest-one-you-can-get-at-walmart battery.
Just buy one of those solar battery chargers from Harbor Freight, and travel like an old person. Take some extra time to stop and take in your surroundings. Don't just stop at the wayside because you have to piss like a race horse. Stop at every wayside, because you have nothing better to do. Set up a lawn chair and eat some cheese and crackers. Try to start conversations with your fellow travelers...

but would you have searched ebay to find out the going rate for said service before agreeing on a price... or is there a difference between goods and services there...?
Don't mind me, I'm still a bit sour about a valance I tried to buy recently, but on an (un)related note, I'm still curious what you ended up getting for that M42...

GTA was on my list. Before I bought my e21 i seriously considered an Alfetta "Sport Sedan" that was on ebay before passing up due to excess doors (not this one of course):
Twist my head around evey time I see one of those olde Mercedes wagons...
Land Rover Defenders are cool too, but like old Alfas, I file them in the I-dont-hate-myself-or-my-wallet-that-much category.
Also like just about any late 60s/early 70s Datsuns. 510, 620, 240z, doesn't matter.
'65 Riviera
None of those are really guilty pleasures though, I just like them.
How about slammed Foresters?
