Did the Overcrest Rally with @The Full Banana over the weekend. Tom did most of the driving since I was technically the passenger and we were supposed to be in his 240. But we both had a blast and the e30 exceeded my expectations and was able to keep up with the 911s in the group we drove with most of the time. Got a lot of compliments on how quick we were on the roads.

After about 400ish miles that made up the rally, the car came home with a significant number of rock chips, a season’s worth of tire removed, and very tired suspension. But it was all totally worth it.

Sounds like a CV carb. Presenting the fueling system with a step-change in manifold pressure makes it's job a lot harder. Most of the sensors that are used to measure what's going on in the engine have some sort of time-constant associated with them, so the computer only knows what happened maybe 20 or 30 milliseconds ago. Meanwhile, it's trying to guess about what the correct parameters are for the next combustion event when the current one hasn't even completed. Slowing down the rate-of-change helps it to guess better, which should result in better combustion.
There are probably other issues as well; the air that's rushing in to the intake manifold to bring it up to ambient pressure has mass and therefore inertia, so there's likely to be a little bit of reverberation in manifold pressure until everything equalizes. That's the most likely explanation I can come up with for the CV carb. Air could even potentially flow backwards through the carb, which would cause it to get fueled 3 times before it got into the engine...

Don't check in here as often as I used to, but I still feel like I need to post a bunch stupid, off-topic crap before I leave.

    That makes complete sense.
I feel the majority of car culture - and this can probably translate into most hobbies - is a dick measuring contest. There is a constant pursuit to be the best and then photo dump the internet so everyone else can tell you how awesome you are. I think this is the reason that I don't do a lot of mainstream auto events. I personally enjoy cars - but I don't enjoy car people (large generalization). I try to not be that person, and I fail at times. Everyone does.

So since the car was down over the weekend, I ended up codriving my buddy’s turbo miata.
ended up taking 2nd in XS-B and raw timing 8th/143 cars. I’ve driven turbo Miatas before but this was my first experience in one with a true manual rack (slower ratio than powered racks), so my hand work was a bag of shit. The car is an absolute rocket though. He ended up 1st in XS-B and 4th/143 for raw time.

As much as I hate driving other people’s cars, it was really nice to just show up and rip around. Trying to break that habit though lol
for this run the tires had some temp in them and were about 6/7psi higher than what we like to run, hence the oversteer

Not a terribly impressive graph because it's presented on a linear scale. A virus spreading in a vulnerable population spreads exponentially, not linearly. Yes, they work. The problem is that "individual choice" means nothing in a pandemic, because it's the sum of the action that is taken by all people, in aggregate, that makes the difference. At my my employer, mask wearing went from 5% to 95% overnight, because of a county mandate. What one person chooses to do individually makes little difference. Similar to voting, but I digress...

Today I took a picture of my VIN with the intentions of looking up part numbers and ordering some parts I need (CSB, giubo, front brakes). Didn't get that far, but I did at least get out for a short bike ride and made dinner... Basically working 1.75 jobs now that I've "moved to engineering", but still have to train literally 5 people to do different parts of the work that I was doing and also finish the work that needs to be done after the trainees go home "because it's 4:30".
Definitely dropping out of society and become a bum/traveling for 6 to 12 months when my lease is up at the end of next summer.

Took almost 2 years, but I finally filled a McMaster bag with McMaster bags.

I got into the electrical engineering department at work a couple weeks ago. Not sure if I can start calling myself an engineer just yet, but I'm on the right path. I'll still be doing fixtures and ordering more stuff from McMaster, but probably not at the same rate that I have been for the past few years.

Some photos from the weekend. Rented a 70-200 2.8L III. Was fun to use some nice glass. Definitely going to be doing this for all the major events. The gulley washer made for interesting track conditions, also some great pictures.

Great shots all around. These ones especially remind me of what I love about events at RA. There are things you see there that just seem natural at the time, but if you saw them anywhere else, you'd pretty much lose your shit.
What camera/lens are you you using for the wide-angle shots? Any post-processing?
