Well, that makes me feel a little better at least.
Interesting that you had an e21, sold it, but are still in the market?
Also, in unrelated news, I found a 12v Mac tools (aka Dewalt?) cordless impact laying in the street on my way home from work on Wednesday:

Beautiful day today. I got up early and did bike stuff. My first time at Quarry Ridge. It's only about a 125 foot climb to the top, but I did it at least 10 time and my body loves me for it. I only stopped here to get my revenge on a small tree branch that bitch whipped me in the face the first time through.

Finally got serious about troubleshooting the ill-behaved fuel-pump relay on the e34.
Kind of an inside joke... it's "executive" because it's a 5-series, aka "executive car". So there's "executive shifting" (with your arm on the arm-rest), "executive lifter tick", and the...

The indicator light shows when the relay is getting a signal from the DME, and the switch allows me to bypass the relay, which is nice for when it's cold outside and I don't want to open the hood to shove a paper clip in the relay socket. The whole thing has a 7 foot cord and plugs into the relay socket. The cord runs out from under the hood, through the passenger door, and the panel resides next to the shifter.
Initial test results showed that the relay is not getting a consistent ground from the DME. After a week of driving using the bypass switch, the car has not thrown any tantrums, or shown any other signs of ill temperament. I've remembered to turn off the fuel pump when exiting the car nearly 85% of the time, so life is good.
Actually, that's not entirely true. I fixed the low-hanging cover under the dash which was dragging on my toe when I went to shift, and I did an oil change. When you fix something, something else has to break in order to keep an equilibrium, so the cable that actuates the drivers door latch release mechanism had to give way. For the past week I've been having to reach back and open the rear door so that I can reach behind the B-pillar to grab the outside door handle so that I can get out of the car. Removing the drivers-side door card now allows me to actuate the mechanism without rolling down the window or opening the rear door.
    Such is the life...

So.... I acquired this car last year after it exchanged hands about 4-6 times before landing on my doorstep. The poor fella was in desperate need of TLC and an owner that would actually take the time to sort out his quirks. I dont know if I'm that owner, but I am certainly going to try to be (for now). And although I dont really have the room for him in my stable, I took him in with open arms.
With that said, the car also didnt have a title when I got it. The story is that it went to auction, and the highest bidder left it on the lot abandon and a towing company removed it and took over possession of the car. Here is where it was sold and jumped around title-less for a few years until yesterday that is, when I finally made the journey back through all of the previous owners to find out what I just explained. The towing company gave me all the necessary paperwork and after a simple trip to the DMV, I now legally own another car.
About the car itself. Its a 1984 633CSI E24 5 speed coupe. The car is fairly rare from what I have researched. Only 1173 manuals were sold here in america, and of that, the color combination is almost none existent. Alpine white exterior with Cherry red AKA"Ox Blood" interior. Pair that with the Zender kit and it seems like a pretty cool car. UNLESS you have to work on it.
So basically I am starting this thread more to help myself document the process of getting it running again and returning it into a nice factory condition.
    First day I saw it:

well, its done. i've ordered new carpet and interior paint as seen below. *crosses fingers*

oh, and i also turned the spare bedroom into a paint booth since its still winters outside. lol. btw, it works great - have a fan out the window which creates a good amount of vacuum in the room to draw out the fumes/dust. costs about $100 in supplies, which includes all the small stuff like gloves, tape, air filters, screws, etc. bonus: toss in the space heater and i can get the room pretty warm for fast drying.

Bought this Clarion FZ-102E for one of the cars and I'm super happy with it. Matches the oem lighting perfect and buttons look great too. It's a basic European market head unit but that's all I wanted. Took about a week to ship from the U.K.

Missed the package twice. Went to FedEx and scooped it up.

RMS hardware, vortech v1 (loud straight cut gear style) some 30lb injectors, nick g tune, etc

All said and done it should be good for 300whp/240ftlbs (crank 365hp/295tq) -ish

Head will go to headwerks in MN once they open back up sometime in march

    I didn't go turbo because:

Going through the turbo build with Brooke's car is proving to be way more money than I'd want to dump into a 30 year old car

Tuning things annoys me to the depths of my very being

I get to keep my delicious sounding exhaust

Car keeps it's "NA style" power delivery (good for autox)

6/7lbs should be very reliable (not that I drive the car much anyways) with headstuds and possibly a cutring HG - might be overkill, but I don't want to replace a HG ever again (paging Ben)

I don't have to buy a new clutch (already did that last year)

Should literally be bolt it up and go (expecting some slight modifications for radiator and other "lack of room" issues)

I was on the fence about a VF kit, but through research it didn't really seem that they easily supported expanding (i.e. Stage 2/3/4 bro) with the RMS hardware, I should be able to more easily run a smaller pulley/upgrade injectors (It also popped up at a relatively decent price) but then I'm back into the "I need a new tune" boat.

I'm going to get all this crap cleaned up and will likely replace all the rubber hoses/vac lines
Will also need to extend the MAF wiring *maybe*

So for now, this should do

Having moved to a new shop in July, This car hasn't had any attention between our schedules but we gave things another go yesterday and the car has started! Comparing notes between e30's it's seems to have been a combination of wiring issues and the fuel pressure regulator being bad. Don't really have a clear answer but the fpr was leaking this time after we re-wired the motor as we had planned to pull it for a m50.
@MattY bought a sedan (build thread will start soon) so just need to tidy up stuff under the car like installing the driveshaft, exhaust, subframe bushings being the major things before this is road worthy.
*knocks on wood* this will be at the picnic, hopefully the sedan too.

Parts store didn't have a cup the right size to pull my rear wheel bearing, so I made my own. Also learned that you can cut really close to a shoulder with an angle grinder if you cut a helix around the part.

I know we have a decent mix of backgrounds on here, so I wanted to make a thread asking where you get your event calendars from
It seems like every region has its own car club, and it's own poorly updated website.
So that being said, these are some of the sites I use:
    http://www.scca-milwaukee.org/solo/2017/17sched.html
    http://www.met-council.org/calendar.htm
    http://www.motorsportreg.com/
    http://www.fvscc.com/
If anyone has other sites they use, please post them here. (hopefully this lightens the load for Chris posting stuff on the calendar)
I will try to post non-web events here as well (basically screenshot Facebook stuff)
Last year at Road America autox we had an awesome turnout of WIBimmers people and it was a riot, hoping for more of that.

The key to efficiency is to never set anything down. Once I set something down there's going to be 5 minutes of me walking around the shop looking everywhere for it...

Why don't you ever seem to see anodized wheels, as opposed to powdercoat or paint? Seems like a better idea since there's no heat... Something about the alloy?

does too! "The car has a M3 fender". Not sure why you would put one fender on instead of both, but this guy obviously thinks differently than most...
