I won’t ever shit on someone for peacefully protesting (whether or not I agree with them is another thing) it is a constitutional right and should be protected as such

they have a right to protest for sure, i'd never say they shouldnt be protesting. the problem here is that the physical act of protest (gathering in a large number) without following proper social distancing is not a great idea. if they would protest with social distancing, and wear masks, there would be no problem here. they cant even see that what they are doing is counter-productive to what they want.

  2. just heard about the group of protestors in brookfield.

most of them are not observing distancing and not wearing masks.

A caption from a jsonline article

    Quote

A married couple from New Berlin who wished to not disclose their names attended with masks and joined the group on the sidewalk.

“It is happening – COVID-19 is out there and we have to be cautious – but I think as far as businesses are concerned I think that should be a personal decision,” said the woman. “I think it’s just a decision people should be able to make on their own. And if you come down with it and you die, well then that’s on you. It’s a decision that you have to make. If I die because I came here today, well, I guess...”

    She shrugged.

“I guess I said my piece. We’re retired. Social security and fortunately have a pension as well. But there’s a lot of people who are really struggling out there. The disease is real and so is what’s happening to people that don’t have COVID-19 and to their livelihood.”

hey lady, if you want to f*ckin die from this, fine. but what you dont understand is that if you get sick and die, you are likely to make several other people sick and possible kill someone in the process, including your husband.

    why are people so dense?

I mean, did you really ever have any rights to begin with? Local governments control your life already - where you put your shed, how tall your fences are, your zoning which controls how big you can make your garage, your own house. I mean, technically they don't even allow you to install a light switch without asking for permission, charging you a fee, and then having someone come out to take a look at it.

We're working on a breathing permit right now to make sure people are only breathing through their noses so we can get rid of all the mouth-breathers.

while i agree that some rules are cash grabs (such as light switch permits), every rule exists because some mouthbreather did something stupid, which goes back to my previous point that people are dumb. if local govts didnt control these things, you'd have a neighbor with a rube golberg house behind a great wall of china fence that looked like it might fall and crush you kids when they play in your yard. he'd blast his nazi music so loud you couldnt think and have tigers in his back yard that would murder your dogs, on occasion.

I hope people schedule tee times to not play golf and just walk the course with their friends to get drunk and take dumps in the holes.

hey, what did golf ever do to you? 🤣  anyone who attempts what you've said near me will be shelled with 120mph golf balls whizzing past their head.

i agree that guidelines that cover EVERYONE in the state dont necessarily make sense for all cities/areas.  the other side to the argument, though, is people are stupid and will push the boundaries too far if you leave the boundaries loose.

the majority of kids coming into the hospital for non covid related issues are testing positive for covid and are asymptomatic.

if you look up 'kid' in the dictionary, you'll find one of the alternate definitions is 'germ warehouse and distribution facility'

closing schools back in march has probably saved thousands of lives already.

  6. "DTM" exhaust tips thoroughly remind me of the bad euro tuning things from yesteryear

Bavarian Autosport mags filled with ACS wheels, Hartge parts, and the features on reader's cars remind me of the good stuff. i remember making lists of e30 tuning parts and adding up the HP gains from each and lusting over the possibilities.

what I meant to say. My point was that, in fact, we need people to get this virus

Unfortunately, without extreme draconian measures, there's no way to completely stop the virus from spreading, nor is that really even desirable. We need people to get infected and recover so that the population at-large develops an immunity to it.

it can be controlled. we've done it with other viruses. i know this one is more contagious, but we were also poorly prepared.

i agree that heard immunity is a possible answer. but a lot of people have to die for that answer. if even half the planet gets it, thats still around 100,000,000 people dead. we have to try other things first. 5,000,000 die on earth per year. dont forget the first time a person gets it twice that whole idea is out the window.

Hmm. Transporting reefer isn't as lucrative as I would have expected...

    My $.02:

I think we did the right thing mandating stay-at-home early so that our healthcare system isn't overloaded. We're better off here than a lot of other places because of it. However, this virus isn't going away. Eventually, people are going to have to start going back to normal life. Until 90-something percent of people have either gotten it or been vaccinated it's still going to be out there spreading. I don't think we can all social-distance for a year until a vaccine is available, so in the meantime, we're kind of screwed. We just need to control the rate that it spreads so that our healthcare system can handle it, and do the best we can to protect vulnerable populations.

Probably not what people want to hear, but that's what it looks like from where I'm standing.

its harder to see the long picture that the short term.

lets assume your scenario plays out. 90% of people get the virus, 10% are vaccinated. based on a conservative death rate from the virus of 2%, that means 140,000,000 people on earth will die. based on the hospitalization rates, that means 3 billion people will need to go to the hospital. hospitals will probably be overwhelmed, and wont have enough ventilators for everyone. assume another 2% of people die because they cant get help. you don't think 280 million people dead forever and a failing medical system will have a greater impact on our world than 15,000,000 people unemployed for a year?

  9. surprise nice day out.

got the Turner rear sway bar reinforcement mounts installed, along with new bushings and end links. slightly disappointing that i had to modify them to make them fit. no good out of the box. the tabs that go where the stock mount tabs go are too curved to fit, so they have to be bent. no big deal, but it does damage the powdercoat which will make them susceptible to rust.

how they came on the left, modified on the right.

    UnXlxFAh.jpg

put them in place to mark the new holes which you drill up into the trunk area.

dynamat removed to make room for the bolts

I also inspected the subframe chassis bolt holes

this mount was the stuck one:

    the not stuck one:
    1EqoA3Xh.jpg

my theory is that if you car has had water leak into the cabin from the rear windows that pooled under the rear bench, it probably found its way down these holes and caused the corrosion. there is rust going UP the bolt hole, meaning it couldnt have been from spray/water underneath the car.

anyways, I cleaned up the bad one and will anti-seize to help next time.

cleaned up the ebrake hardware. some pb blaster followed by degreaser

in my visits to the hardware drawer to find something, I realized i kept a set of axle bolts from the e34 I parted. They are slightly different, but will work great for the e30.

the e34 bolt is on the left (smaller shouder, has the serations under the cap) and the e30 on the right

i took care of some things not related to the rear end since everything is apart.

this has been bothering me since the day i discovered it. the person who swapped this car used an automatic 24v harness. why? same reason they shortcut all the other things ive found, i suppose.the auto harness has the wiring for the auto trans. it runs from the ecu to the transmission under the car. the huge plug at the trans has been dangling around and annoying me, so I decided to remove it. unfortunately pulling it from the harness would require removing the entire harness. so instead, I just cut the plug, cut back and taped the wires and left it with the O2 sensor.

    offending plug:

    cutting away

all taped up and ready to go.

Lastly, I decided to switch back to stock rubber transmission mounts. i installed the poly mounts in an attempt to help with the driveline vibrations i was having last year. it added a whole ton of NVH (vibration, mostly) to the cabin. luckily, new new driveshaft has solve the driveline vibration issues, so I can put these back to stock.

  10. i guess its all relative. to me, the micro 4/3 seem tiny. most are half the weight of dslrs. you could attach them to a mount on your bike handlebars or have it around your neck all day.

but, if we take your compactness point to an extreme, maybe just buy an iphone to use as a camera. an iPhone X with a great camera is like $300 used. no zoomy zoomy though.

  11. That will be an epic adventure. I am envious of people who have the nerve to just travel for weeks with loose plans in other countries. worries the bejesus out of me.

Take a look at the micro 4/3 cameras. its basically what you are describing - compact and can have advanced user settings. With a smaller non-zoom lens, it could probably still fit in your pocket. My sis has a nice Fuji that was pretty cheap and takes great photos. however, the problem you'll always have is the smaller the camera, the less buttons it can have on the outside, and the more menu digging you have to do

You're welcome to borrow my nikon 55-300 VR if you dont want to drop coin. it sits in my closet unless I'm on vacation, even then I'm more likely to shoot with my 50. I'll ship it back with the subframe puller you lent me.

  12. thanks for the insight.

i agree about the timing of when its safe to get back to life as normal and how much economically will change by then is scary.  i have faith though. when this is over, we still have X number of people that are going to spend X amount of money and feed the economy, just like it was before. its just where the money is directed might change. businesses will fall, but businesses will rise.

I was thinking more along the lines of the 4th of July being ‘yooge, but you may be on to something. What site are you using to track virus data?

    I have been using https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

but It may not be very accurate as it seems to rely on user data like a wiki page.

Working from home hasn't been as glamorous as I thought it might be. The stress has been worse from communication breakdowns and employee laziness.

Im grateful to still be employed for the while. I still head in to the office for ~2 hours a few times a week to take care of some things I cant do from home and am surprised by the amount of people who are just out doing things. I cant imagine they are all unemployed. I feel moreso they are supposed to be working but just aren’t.

    Mother Truckers like
@YoungCR and people in the medical field like @DrLeadFoot  deserve some serious recognition for keeping things going while in survival mode.

for wisconsin, i'm using the one Rek posted

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/1/d/e/2PACX-1vQpuJ2G20VVzGa_ic-dfwGVDDSv1hCA1n94mIm51GWA0SX74nYoiq4yn1H_o0N8doCFxmOL8E9jbPnW/pubhtml?fbclid=IwAR2Dh1GEdKXw100o9ON0zo609J3ejicHm-_8ZZvgcqYNXiC68s_C_a4pZBc#

someone is personally tracking the wisconsin numbers, no idea where he got it from. it has daily update projections based on averages of the last few days, shows percentage of spread increase, etc.

you must be confused about DrLeadFoot, he's in the RE game. doesnt detract from how hard he is working for people, though!

    giphy.gif

and about all the people out and about, you're right it seems like there is too many. i've only been out to buy food and once to go to work when "at home" wouldnt cut it for tech support.

my big complaint is when i've been to the grocery store (just twice in the last 30 days) to buy as much food as possible without risking stuff spoiling I see people walking out of the store with like a single bag of chips and a case mountain dew. did you really need to go out for just that?! and if you are going out for that, buy like fricken 20 bags and 10 cases so you dont go out again!

  14. first things first, WI is looking hopeful -  the number of new cases has been steady over the last few days, instead of increasing. rate of spread is slowing and social distancing is working.  lets hope the election shenanigans dont compromise our progress.

    second things second.

I was thinking that this 4/20 is going to be the biggest 4/20 in history, due to the number of people at home and the number of people who need a fricken break from real life. thoughts?

I've succumb to the fact that I'm an old man.  I get it, but I try.  I look to you young pups to help me out.

I want to edit some videos, cut, insert other videos/pics, etc.  Real simple.  I made the few vids I want to play with in portrait mode (yeah, boomer, I get it).  I down loaded Blender (free and powerful).  Holy shit, way too complicated.  It took 2 hours of video tutorial just to figure out how to make the video portrait on the editor, and it wasn't even a true fix, just a work around.  So, I need something a lot simpler to goof around with.  Preferably on PC, not mobile and definitely not Mac/Apple.

    Any advice?

Are you lucky enough that your version of Windows 10 came with the now defunct Movie Maker? A monkey could make a video with it. But it has basically no features and will look like a monkey made it.

Windows replaced Movie Maker with another built-in video editor. I havent used it but it may be what you are looking for. Its sort of hidden, so this link will help you find it:

My Aunt is all in on all those conspiracy theories.  I usually just ignore it, but sometimes I have to point out the gross fallacy.  For awhile she was spouting about how the government and the mega rich had these super high tech healing machines and posted 'leaked' documents and images of them.  I realized immediately that they were set shots and artists renderings of the machine from the Prometheus movie.  I posted links and such.  She simply said that the images were only representative and that she was sure they existed.

Now she's heavy on the 5G = Covid19 and Bill Gates being evil and selling Alien Technology.

    Crazy.

is this a blood aunt, or in-law? if its blood, better get yerself checked.
