Ok so I ran into fitment issues with the injectors and fuel rail with the manifold I have. Its just simply not going to work in the location normally used. After going through many many iterations on what I could do to make it work, I stumbled upon injectors from a 1.8t VW or Audi. They are considered EV12 injectors that are skinnier as well as having an extended tip on them. I found a used one on ebay for cheap to see if it would work with the CIS injector ports that are on my head.

    CIS Injector

    EV1 Injector

    EV12 Injector (1.8t)

After fitting the EV12 injector in the head port exactly how I got, it seems to be a perfect length with the extended tip. The only issue is the headport hole being larger than the injector and o-ring causing the injector to not seal correctly.

To me it seems like if I could find a thicker o-ring with the same ID as the EV12, but a larger OD then I would be golden. Well, when comparing the two styles of injectors side-by-side I noticed that the EV1 injectors have thicker o-rings. BRILLIANT! I swapped the EV12 o-ring for an EV1 o-ring and BOOM! the injector now sits within the head port steady and seals well too. Now to get 3 more used ones or go for 4 new EV12 injectors.

Havent updated this in a loooooong time! Hopefully I remember everything. This time I will let the pictures do most of the talking. Firstly tho, the rebuilt head, intake mani and exhaust mani/turbo were reinstalled into the block. Timing covers were cleaned and painted with a new crank seal installed into lower cover.

    Pulleys/trigger wheel painted and installed.

Steering rack rebuilt with new poly bushings and tie rod assemblies.

Steering shaft cleaned and rebuilt with new poly bushing.

Steering rack covers cleaned and painted.

New control arms installed due to old ones seized completely. This is one way to remove them, lol.

    E12 throttle body installed.

    Intercooler came in the mail.

Front suspension rebuilt with custom coilovers and Bilstein struts.

It has definitely been busy as hell at work and my weekends have been preoccupied with others things, but I can finally post an update. To answer 02intherockies questions, the rear brake hose issue was solved by using e30 rear brake hoses screwed directly into the caliper. It’s a tiny bit of a stretch, but it works. I finally got the crank pulley to come off thanks to the help of a gigantic gear puller from Advance Auto. The smaller one I got from O'reilly just didn’t cut it apparently. I am in the process of replacing the seal in the timing cover right now. Once that is done, I will mount the new machined down crank pulley and mock up how to trigger wheel will sit in relation to the vr sensor. Going along with my copper rear end, I said screw it and used up some more paint on the pulleys. Most of you probably won’t agree, but to each their own, right?

My brother and my dad both work at a machining/metal spinning company, so I utilized their expertise and machines at their work. I picked up a big chunk of solid aluminum 3-1/4” rod from Speedy Metals for $20 and had my brother throw it on the lathe to make some spring dividers. I just drew it up in CAD and away it went. As you know, when using helper springs you need a divider between it and the main spring. A couple days later and we had this.

From that point, the rear coilover setup was complete to the point of install. I will have to wait and see the ride height once I can put the car on the ground, so tweaking most likely will be needed.

Along with that stuff I mocked up the front euro bumper using bmacs adapters that I powdercoated earlier in the build. My front valance is dented in from someone backing into the car, so that made it a big rough to mount it. All-in-all I think it looks better than what I had.

Well, the 318i coolant neck has been drilled and tapped for the MS temp sensor along with getting cleaned and painted. The BOV also got a sprits of fresh paint (not the greatest, but no one will see it anyways, lol).

I also removed the Megajolt unit (which is for sale by the way)

And I went ahead and tore apart the oem wiring harness. This was definitely an interesting thing to do. So much wiring was removed it shocked me.

I finished the adapters for the IAC and TPS today and got them mounted to the manifold. Vinyl cutter came in handy when cutting some gaskets for the sensors and throttle body. Mounted the throttle body adapter and throttle body to the manifold as well.

I also finished up some wiring on the megasquirt for the idle stepper valve control. Works great! Cant say that for the m50 TPS tho. The one I got turned out to be a dud after hooking it up to megasquirt and attempting the calibrate it. I opened the sensor up to find a broken wiper arm. Ggrrr! Time to search for a new one now.

She is alive and kicking!!! Took her for a short drive around the neighborhood and the new suspension, steering, shifting all feel amazing!! Like a freaking go-kart on rails. She goes pretty nice as well with the new megajolt ignition system. It has a coolant leak which I will have to address, but at least its external and not internal. Still much more to do to her till completely done (yeah right, done), but all-in-all I am super happy!

Hey guys! It definitely has been awhile since I have posted updates on the e21 project. If you don’t remember my intro thread that I updated every so often, you can check it out here …
    http://www.wibimmers.com/board/showthread.php?423-Dd-e21
Recently she has had the title of Daily Driver taken away from her by a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. Gotta keep it in the family. Haha!! I leased it for dirt cheap, so I didn’t have to drive the e21 in the winter which has turned out great. So, the e21 has been parked next to the garage inside a fully enclosed car canopy to get some work done.
I installed a methanol injection system since the last time I posted as well as a small block chevy aluminum radiator for better cooling. The meth injection feeds right from the washer fluid reservoir. The red led in the gauge cluster is tied to a fluid level sensor in the reservoir to warn me when its almost empty. The green led is wired to a pressure switch that feeds off the boost line. When the switch hits a specified psi level (5 psi on my setup) it will send a signal to the pump to run which in turn illuminates the green led to let me know its on.

I also have been collecting parts for work that will be done such as EDIS-4 parts from an escort to convert to electronic ignition

s14 oil filter housing tapped for oil supply to turbo (so I can get rid of this stupid sandwich plate), ARP head studs, and an e12 throttle body for more air flow.
This winter I plan on getting quite a bit done on her for preparations for a super fun spring/summer this year. Right now I have been focusing on the rear-end stuff which includes, subframe, trailing arms, sway bar, bushings, etc and rebuilding a spare head I have.
I got the head cleaned, decked, and had a valve job done on it from C&S Performance in Butler. They did a fantastic job. I then deep cleaned all the internal parts and put it all back together. Unfortunately I don’t have a pic of the head done. Ill add it later.

I picked up a spare rear end from forum member kyletime666’s 323i e21. These euro models came with rear disc brakes, which is what I mainly got it for to replace my awful drum setup.

I took the setup over to Snap Understeer’s place to prep it all for POR-15 and paint. First thing I did was wirebrush everything down as much as possible to get heavy crap knocked off and such. After that was the degreaser stage and finally the metal acid-etch stage.

Once all dry, it was time for the POR-15.

I decided to go with a beige/copper/black color scheme for the car. I will eventually repaint the car with the same BMW safari beige color, so everything else gets painted. After the two coats of POR-15 dried completely, I went ahead and put primer down on everything. With that said, I give to you, COPPER REAR-END!!!! I think it turned out pretty badass!!

I went ahead and bought all new poly urethane bushings for the rear-end. They look amazing in my opinion. I know some of you won’t like the color choice, but I strive to be different … WAY different. These include:
    subframe bushings
    trailing arm bushings
    sway bar bushings
    different hanger bushings
and I also swapped my previously ordered steering rack bushings for the newly designed ones in yellow of course.
    http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175/bassboy3313/IMG_5571.jpg
The trailing arm bushings were kind of a bear to get it. Once those were finally done, I bolts up the subframe bushings and viola, one step closer to install.
    http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175/bassboy3313/fcb29df04aa9_8f3a4dbf-0949-417f-b696-f800ed8ad468th450tw610.jpg
Tomorrow I should have the diff bolted to the subframe and the sway bar all painted and bolted on with the new bushings. After that, it’s onto the brake setup with parts I have already and then it will all be installed back on the car.
