DevianceInDark
Hello all! I joined a few years ago when I had an E90 but ended up selling it soon after. Just recently picked up a 91 318is as a project car and decided it was time to get sociable. I'm Mitch from Oshkosh. The 91 318is is a 5spd coupe I bought in the Milwaukee area. It is a former Cali car with just one rust blister in the lower rear wheel well. Anyway, While she is stored for the winter I plan to try and do clean up, make sure it is mechanically sound and get a coilover setup installed before next spring. Hoping to be more active on here and maybe catch up for a few meets once the snow thaws. rampelsauce

fiberglassdr
Oh your going to have a blast with that m42. Especially if you watch for vacumm leaks valve lash and keep here cool. DevianceInDark
DevianceInDark
Thanks!Yeah I'm kind of at a toss up on what I would like to do engine-wise going forward. The car is somewhere in the 200k region (odometer stopped working) but seems to be a solid runner. Shocks are in need of replacement so I figured I would just spend the coin and get the coilovers I want right away.
rampelsauce
Do an M30B35 in that baby if you go the swap route. Reliable, tons of torque, sounds sexy as hell. I've seen a couple in the local pick n pull with fairly low mileage. And welcome. DevianceInDark
andyhundley
From what I've read, M30's are way too heavy for a e30. Clean car sir. Hope to meet you a GTG next summer. DevianceInDark
DevianceInDark
Just watched a couple M30 swap vids and it definitely looks like the business. I'll be running the M42 until it gives up on me so a swap of any kind is probably a long ways out. Thanks Andy. The car has its share of dings and dents along with sun fade but seems to be solid overall. rampelsauce
B C
I am the resident M20 apologist. I have also participated in an m42 to m20 swap. It was the most unbelievably easy engine swap ever DevianceInDark
DevianceInDark
Definitely good to know, Snap. Looks like I've come to the right place!
rampelsauce
Snap is a 12 valve fiend. His behavior is not to be tolerated. If he tries to give you any M20 propaganda report him to your nearest moderator. If you see something, say something! Rowleym
my only nickname ever given was "turbo" so maybe that will help lol. Ill change my sig or something haha. DevianceInDark
HipMF
Damn! I may be the less loved twin of the family as yours looks to be in awesome shape! Black interior? It's a bit rusty underneath, and has over 200k on the clock. The interior is black and in pretty good shape considering the mileage. DevianceInDark
my only nickname ever given was "turbo" so maybe that will help lol. Ill change my sig or something haha. I wonder if that would make me "NA" by default. lol It's a bit rusty underneath, and has over 200k on the clock. The interior is black and in pretty good shape considering the mileage. Definitely looks good from the pic. I'll need paint if I want mine to be presentable Rowleym
ClassE
You'd be amazed what you can do with alittle time, a random orbital buffer, and some good buffing compounds. Most people never bother to put in the elbow grease but it's worth ever minute.Original 25 year old paint on entire drivers side - new paint on hood/bumper: DevianceInDark

I have plenty of dents to tackle as well. (Pic doesn't do it justice but this was the day I picked it up. Hood was already rattle-canned). ClassE
I say embrace the sun fade (with the right exterior changes - it can "work"). A full respray is $$$$ and only worth it if you're fully committed to the project.
