Yup, been running full E85 for a while now.
Yeah, I'd go with a set of PURE turbos or the MMP twins I had. I wouldn't sacrifice the lag at that power level.

Since someone asked me "why go single now, after having upgraded twins" on another forum, I figured I'd post the answer here as well.

The biggest reason is because I don't want to have to do all of this work ever again. If one of the twins took a shit, I'd have to drop the subframe to remove everything and replace it. Now I'll have one turbo that can go bad, instead of two... and it'll be a lot easier to access if it does go bad. Aftermarket N54 twins aren't known to be reliable anyways. They also pile in torque down low. While it feels awesome, it's tough on the motor. I don't want to replace another motor. A larger single turbo should be a little easier on the motor.

I wasn't "wowed" by the twins. They were definitely faster, but it wasn't "OMG CRAZY". I know I'll be sacrificing some spool time, but when the boost hits it's going to feel great. If you're after linear power with modest goals, I think twins are a good choice. But I don't want to be pushing twins to their absolute limit just to achieve my goals. I'd rather put a larger single on and give it a lighter workout. I would still recommend the MMP twins, but I think I'll enjoy the single more. Plus, who doesn't like the look and sound?

Been a while, thought I'd throw an update out there.
Car has stayed in my possession and I have no plans of selling it anymore. The job in appleton is basically a done deal so I'll be spending 3/4 of my time out there come february.
As far as the car goes, I got Spence's old downpipes now for my first power mod and will be picking up wheels and tires sometime in the spring since I'm working for a wheel company now.
I am also dropping the car off at the BMW dealer this weekend so they can do both recalls, I started getting concerned about the car catching fire while parked 2 stories under me, so I think this is better. They're supposed to be giving me a rental I can abuse during the winter and I should have my car back sometime early to mid Februrary according to the guy that called me back to arrange everything.
Outside of that I'm going stir crazy not doing car things, so at least I'll have a chance to drive my car for a bit, even if its in the salt.

Looks like I got to participate without even participating!
As a recent Amazon Prime member, I've been ordering a handful of things from Amazon this month. Christmas presents, personal items, etc. Yesterday there were two boxes from Amazon on my porch. This is the norm at my house, so I didn't think much of it and opened them. To my surprise, not only one, but TWO BMW E92 M3 remote control cars! These ones are black and a little smaller than the two white ones I've received via WIBimmers Secret Santa 2015 & 2016.
What makes this even funnier is that a random package showed up a few days ago which I wasn't expecting (again from Amazon). I opened it up and to my surprise it was a black remote control M3, the SAME as the two I just received. My girlfriend found out that her sister accidentally sent it to my house on accident and that it was supposed to be my Christmas gift. I laughed as she asked why I didn't seem excited. I had to explain that I've been getting these for Christmas for two years in a row already. Am I that hard to buy for?!
Now I have a total of 5 remote control BMW E92 M3s... first world problems
I'll post a picture, but might wait to see if I get any more (you never know). Thanks guys!

There's a monthly event that a couple of us get together at March/April-ish through October already.  It's called Cars and Coffee in Lake Mills.  Anyone's welcome to join us!  It's usually Myself, CYoung, Ilovecars, MattY and Wasntm3 with random appearances from dr.leadfoot.  Yes it involves parking in a parking lot but it also has a huge collection of very diverse cars and they collect money for Cars Curing Kids at every event.

The meets and drives are some of the more enjoyable things I get to do during the year and there's no reason there couldn't be a few more.
For 2018 I'd like to have a drive/event/meet up/whatever once a month, starting in January.
There is no agenda behind this (such as forming a gang, cult, getting cozy with Earl, etc). We have a fun group and its always enjoyable to get out and enjoy our hobby together.
You may not be able to make some/most of the events, you may not even want to, I may not even make it to all of them. This is all fine. The fact that they would be every month would give more people an opportunity to get out and enjoy the addiction with others and not have to feel like they will miss their only opportunity to meet up with the WI Bimmers guys
Drives/driving are the primary focus. Months with poor weather (Jan, Feb, Nov, Dec) would likely be meets rather than drives.
If there is some more collaboration then the events should turn out even better than in the past, just to smooth out the kinks and maybe broaden the scope of the meet/drive such as renting a park pavillion for a cookout after a drive etc.
Let me know if you would like to be involved in monthly event planning.
Anyone can feel free to make suggestions, but dedicated planning help is also being sought after.

I'm not really interested in arguing over what constitutes a "real" driving event, my point is that its a fun car event that involves driving and not parking.

You are right, Looks like the Gumball Rally is a $100,000 entry fee. Im glad you posted it because its another automotive event to acknowledge. I first heard about the “Rally to Winnebago” quite a few years ago and its something im finally in a position to think about doing.
I look forward to hearing about the Tesla and seeing some cars. Let me know if you guys are meeting up around hwy 100 again like the time i saw you last year and I’d be glad to come say hello

Face it, everyone on this forum is neck deep in the car-related $$$ sink. Balking at $500 is pretty funny, through granted we all pick where the money goes and rally may not be your thing.  Aside from what gets dumped into the car (and be very afraid of totaling that all up), there is the menu of $$$ sucking car-related events. These can range from "free" LEO ticket dodging road hooning to entry fees for higher end concourse looking pretty events, "cheap" parking lot cone dodging (unless you're serious and plan for nationals), northern Wisconsin ice dancing, and moving up the price point to the costs of track days/nights/weekends, Lemons/Chump enduros and club sprint racing, etc.
So $500 for a rally event that includes vinyl swag and comp'd lodging--unless the rooms are just a bunch of parked vans down by the river--seems pretty cheap by comparison...if you're into road rally.

$500 is two track days.  That's where my $500 will go.  Side note, isn't 270 miles kind of on the edge of the Model X range?  That should be interesting.

So its been a while... Nothing really changed, got to meet the infamous Mr Spence in person to grab some parts off him and I bought a dual cone intake for the car last week, but haven't installed either because its too damn cold now. (I really need a garage)
Took the car on its final trip this weekend to hang out with some friends and its basically parked now unless I decide to go sliding in a parking lot during the first snow.
Oh and needless to say still have it and did not sell it, I just love it too much. I had it listed for $14k and every time someone messaged me about it the price went up to $15k. The car just suits me, not sure what would make me actually sell it.
I did make an instagram for the car to match the plates so I can catalog the build next year someplace besides this forum, I just have to remember to keep it updated now.

Hahaha! I want video's!  I couldn't return my X3 fast enough!  Between the HUD that didn't work when it was sunny, the stupid fucking lane departure warning with a vibrating steering wheel, uncomfortable seats and the 8spd auto attached to an anemic n20 I didn't enjoy driving it at all.
Funny story, I took my 2 1/2 year old son with me to drop my car off and pick the X3 up and we're outside of Zimbrick loading his car seat in and he's kind of wandering around then I tell him we're ready to go... He starts walking towards me and slowly realizes we're getting into the X3.  His face turns from content to upset and he stops and says "No dada, not this one."  I said "yea buddy, we've gotta take this one for tonight."  His concern turned into an inconsolable sadness, "No dada!  NOT THIS ONE!".  This time louder and more stern.  I tried to convince him we have to but we'll get my car back tomorrow.  He runs to an estoril M235i and says "Dada!  This one! This one!"  I said no we have to take this and he runs to an F82 M4 and begs me, "This one dada!  THIS ONE! NOT THAT ONE!". I walk over and grab him and he starts crying when he realizes we're getting in the X3.  He cried for half of the drive home and wouldn't talk to me the other half.  We stop at the grocery store and go through something similar when I attempt to put him back in the X3.  The next day I picked up my car then picked him up from day care.  He walks out, looks up and see's my car then let's out a big "DADA!  YOUR CAR IS BACK!".  I learned 3 things 1) he hates X3's 2)he loves my car 3) I've trained him well.
    TL;DR Even my 2 1/2 year old son know's the X3 wasn't good.

This is likely the last post of this thread until Spring season when I start to do some not-very-interesting-but-required aesthetic mods like tint, wheels, black out the chrome window trim, kidneys, etc.
So the car is officially on the road and overall driving great. Blizzaks were mounted yesterday. Still has a CEL for a bad o2 sensor, and I have noticed a couple things now after 150 miles of driving that I'm going to deal with. I used MT-90 fluid in the transmission and I believe that's a bit too thick for the cold climate as when the transmission is not warmed up, it's pretty fussy about the gears. This week I will be putting in MTL instead which should be more viscous. The rear passenger shock is blown and leaking so I have 2 new rear shocks on the way from FCP right now and will install those this week as well.
Overall I'm pretty much ecstatic about where the car is at right now and have been taking excuses to drive it whenever possible. Obviously working from home doesn't give me a lot of reasons to go out, but I'm trying to find them anyway because for the work I've put into the car, I'd like to enjoy it a little bit. It's crazy how much more engaging this thing is with a manual transmission.
Pic for posterity - yes it makes it up to 5th gear and does freeway speeds:
