We go often! Any of you are 100% encouraged to come out and check it out! It's kinda hard to get a pass as they sell out super fast but come to any of the Drift Days hosted by ClubFR and get some ride alongs! Final bout is also a huge event and worth coming for. It's only $10 for a pit pass at the drift day events!

    What he said=)

I bought an H&K VP9 for no reason other than I wanted one.

Much excitement to go shoot it.

    That is all.

I've shot one of these and wouldn't mind owning one=)

Speaking of shooting, I'm going to die while dailying the drift car if it snows=(

I don't really disagree with this. In the old days engines used to wear out after 100k miles. The bores would be 1/16" bigger than they came from the factory and the cam lobes would wear down to nothing. Valve seats and guides wore out. Basically the whole engine would be junk. The build quality of the rest of the car was similar, and cars just didn't last that long.

These days the materials used are better and the technology has come a long way. Engines routinely last 200k-300k or more without a major rebuild. I don't see a problem with buying a vehicle with 200k on it, but when you're fishing in that end of the market you really need to have some evidence that the vehicle has been well maintained. Paying $8k and then shelling out $2k more on nickel and dime maintenance is a big hassle and probably not worth the grief.

Oddly enough I feel the exact opposite of this. I cannot see any of the modern BMW engine lasting reliably much past 200k. I wouldn't even bat an eye at buying an m/s5x car with 200k+ on it and knowing it'd be reliable.

I'm hoping the weight reduction and other "racecar" mods will keep me some what in the go kart handling area. I did get a chance to beat on the compact enough to know I wanted to keep it around, and I'm hoping to get it prepped for some track day and autox fun. I dont want to get too far ahead of myself though, the goal is to get the motor in and drive it.

The weight reduction doesn't really help with this issue though. If anything it slightly compounds it since the car ends up even more unbalanced. The big thing is that the new motor is not much heavier at all in comparison to the m44. It's just that the front of it hangs past the strut towers, and that's what takes away from the feel. This is why you have the assumed "crazy" E30 318 owners that swear up and down that their car handles better than any 325 that they have driven.

From what I hear it's the bees knees and I'm so freaking stoked to do this.

There is a small trade off with the added power. You end up losing a little bit of the go kart feel that you may have grown to love. It happens because the weight is not pushed in front of the strut towers instead of being "behind" them. With the extra power you yourself probably won't notice, especially with not having driven the car as is for a bit

  6. That might be a coupe thing too. Since the compact has framed windows I've never had an issue removing the guide and reinstalling without marking anything.

That is one big thing people do not seem to know when they do the handles. That's soley what that hole in the door is for haha

Drivers side external door handle just broke. I don't know why e36s even came with door cards. At a minimum they should have come with some kind of quick-release fasteners... Maybe I'll get some hood pins to put it back on with this time.

Luckily they're super easy to change in compacts/sedans versus coupes/verts. You have to remove the window and rear window guide and you'll have all the room you could need. Removing and reattaching the linkage to the door latch is worst part about it. If you pull the handle and it either gets hung up or doesn't pop the door at all, your handle snapped and needs to be fully replaced. The other thing that sucks is that they did not use the same style for handles throughout e36 production. I've encountered three different ones so you will want to remove yours to at least see exactly what you have before going and searching for a replacement. There are plenty of part outs for a used one to be had=)
