A couple of years ago, I was at a friend's party when I saw this X5d roll up. Intrigued, I found out the owner was the mother of my buddies wife. I got to chatting and found out she bought it new, and had it meticulously serviced at a local BMW dealer.
I asked that she was ever to sell it, to let me know. She firmly said she doesn't plan on selling anytime soon because she loves it so much.
Well, in December she called and said she is finally getting a new vehicle in the springtime. We worked out a deal to purchase and I brought it home a week ago. It had a CEL for the glow plug module when we picked it up, and knocked some money off.for us 😁
It is emissions in tact, with a recent DPF replacement. I immediately checked the coolant temp and found it to be at 158. 🤷🏼♂️. You would think a dealer would check this..... Otherwise it needed absolutely nothing.... This lady brought it to the dealer for every little thing, with over $14k in service work in the last two years, with a total of all repair receipts since new of $38,844.42! 😳
Off to Cascade German Parts and FCP Euro I went and filled up my shopping cart with a thermostat, glow plugs and module, gaskets, swirl flap delete, coolant flange, and a pcv hose.
I went to work this week and got it all fixed up. I don't plan on hitting a pothole until a problem comes about since everything is new. CBU was surprisingly not bad considering the 145k miles.
This will become the new garage queen, with the potholed 2011 becoming the daily.

I'd be interested in the exhaust and guibo! 👍

I just did lower front control arms and thrust arms and it made a huge difference. I didn't realize how bad they were, they still felt tight.
I also changed out the upper/lower strut bushings as they were gone. No more clunks!
Just a heads up, I went with Lemforder control arms and I got a bad one that had a leaky bushing... Apparently there was a bad batch made last year. FCP Euro was awesome and made it right, and shipped a new one next day air.

Fun stuff!!! I also accumulated some parts this winter for a maintenance rally this spring! Lol.
Most notably is the glow plug module that failed on me about a month ago... Makes for a smoky/sweet sounding cold start!
The Malone 2.5 is a safe and fun tune, I've been running for 4 years now without a hiccup.
Consider a trans tune from https://sutphintuning.com/ also! It made a huge difference and Rod will customize it for your needs. He also has all the parts for the 6hp. He's is a genius with these transmissions, he's even fitted an 8 speed in his E90.

Nice work! It'll be nice to see the car on the road again, all this work going into it is gonna make it so much better.
Every time I see your car, I get the forced induction bug for my S52! Lol

Old thread, but you still have these? Need some snows for my E46 325i and no one has them in stock....
Thanks!

We made it! Not a single hiccup ( except for the Indiana roads beating us up) and even managed about 28mpg!
The cars are rolling in from all over... Amazing cars.... I need to find myself a 2002 now, lol.
We're off to Greer SC today to attend "50 years of M" at the BMW CCA and check out the production facility and performance center.
Tomorrow is the big show, expect a big photo dump!

I use hot shots diesel extreme additive regularly. Supposed to keep the injectors happy, and it boosts cetane levels. I can definitely hear a difference at idle when it's in the tank, it's much quieter.
Others have had luck freeing up a stuck injector with a strong dose of this stuff also.
Other than that, it's just regular maintenance with liquid moly products in the old girl!
I do 30k mile transmission fluid changes just because of the added power of the engine and trans tune with the higher fluid pressures. I only put about between 8-10k miles a year so it's no big deal.
I want this thing to last, they're getting hard to find!!

She was ripped apart and sent to the body shop last week.... Got the bumpers back and assembled with new smoked fog lights. I think I have all the parts together to reassemble her when I get her back later this week!
Since she's gonna be my daily, I treated myself to an Avin head unit as well 😎

Tackled the cooling system today... Good thing I did! It was in the brink of failure... The plastics just crumbled in my hands.
New hoses, expansion tank, thermostat, belts, and upgraded water pump and pulley made of metal. Should be good for a while now!
Time to pull the bumpers and prep for the body shop!

With the new job came a new reason to buy another car!
Since I gave up the take home car with the old job, I needed a new (to me) daily for the upcoming commutes.
After thinking about what I wanted for a bit I settled on finding myself a nice E46, since a 2003 325i was the first new BMW I have ever owned, and haven't had one since 2006.
After a few weeks of looking, and passing on a few cars, I came across this gem!
2005 325ix, 106k, premium package, cold weather package, MK4 Navigation, Harmon Kardon, Xenon, and best of all.... Oxford Green with Carmel Leather!
Overall a very solid car, and it drives wonderful. Gonna work on a cooling system overhaul and some minor maintenance this week.
Next week it's off to the body shop to have MTech bumpers fitted, door dent removal, and rust mitigation.
I love it when a plan comes together...

New seats are in! First impression is good... I really like the driving position and comfort, but I wouldn't want to be any taller with these....It would be hard to fit with a helmet on.
I personally think they look fantastic, definitely fit the period look.
Would recommend if you're less than six foot tall!

Hey all!
I just took a new job and no longer have a company car with a 35 mile commute to work.
I’m thinking I’d like to get back into an E46 for the daily and keep the miles off the other cars.
Manual transmission, XI, or wagon is a plus!
Let me know what you got!!

Perfect color combo! I absolutely love it… welcome to the club!
Be sure to check out the North America BMW Diesel Owners Group on Facebook. You’ll find everything you need to know here

Look up Bradley Tourt while your there for all your needs, he is an amazing wealth of knowledge with these engines. He’s done some pretty amazing swaps, including putting an M57 in a 135i.😳
Can’t wait to see it!!!
Emery- the '74 E3 Bavaria Project
in Members BMWs
Posted
I have a really hard time walking by a nice classic BMW in need of resurrection.
Here is "Emery". She's a 1974 Bavaria 3.0s that has been parked as part of a collection since 1984. We've have been wanting a 2002, but finding nice ones without taking out a second mortgage is near impossible.
Cruising FB marketplace, we found this Bavaria and decided take a peek at it. The first time I saw a Bavaria was at the Vintage in 2022, and there only was 3 of them.
So, here she is!! I'm working though getting her running again after sleeping for the better part of 40 years. I've been going through everything; drained the fluids, and inspected the cylinder bores.
I have some wiring issues to clean up, and have replaced the starter so far, but she will be ready to start up soon! New tires are on order for a set of basketweaves that will be going on her to replace the '80s Keystone wheels.
I Make poor financial decisions, lol. The Shop is officially full!
