  1. Update

Finished pulling the dash out of the car after some conversations about the cage placement. Pulled the sunroof and then pulled all the wiring down to separate it. Only going to be running the done light wiring back up after the cage is done.

Now that the tube is ordered it's time to really prep for the cage.

Made what I like to call a "CAD" design for the front rocker boxes.

    Driver side.

    Passenger side

And then I removed some of the rear panels that will be in the way of the rear boxes, not really sure what to call them.

Kinda blew a hole where one of the welds were but easily fixable.

And then I made up templates for the passenger box but called it quits for the weekend after this one. Still a rough design.

I've dealt with a handful of e46s with blower motors inop, every time it was the resistor.

Welp atleast I'll have a new motor and resistor and know it's good for awhile lmao. Just threw me off since there was power at the motor. Based on all my other experiences. I went to school for automotive mechanic and now I'm a diesel tech. Been wrenching for almost 1p years now so I was like oh easy. Lol but bmw outsmarted me 😂

How much does a shop space like this go for(assuming you are renting)?

Looks a lot nicer(and cleaner) than my current setup lol

This is Sam's shop. He is gracious enough to allow me to have my car there this winter. Mostly for some fab reasons. I have space at home for the car which is nice to not have to drive to work on it but I cant do what we have planned at my home garage. Normally it would be at home. My old shop space was about a 3 car that we paid around $250 a month for but I moved out of there when I moved houses and there was room at the new place to work on and keep my car at. So I cant really put a number on it lol. From places that friends have been before though a space this size would probably be $850+ per month.

  4. Update.

Small one, didnt get a whole lot done this weekend.

The blower motor stopped working a week before the last drift day and I finally got around to ordering a new one. We had checked for power before I went and ordered one.

Turns out it wasnt the blower motor so that was a great way to start the day. I'll be ordering a resistor even though I didnt think that was the problem. After reading it seems these resistors aren't the same as normal ones that when all the others I have dealt with work on high only when bad the e46 ones can just take a shit all together.

I moved on to fixing the broken door lock.

    Disassembled.

    20200118_164256.jpg

    here's the broken/cracked parts.

    20200118_165712.jpg

and the lock successfully assembled and working smooth 👍 I did use some of the good original parts over because well they were fine and no need to put some Chinese pieces in. Lol I kept the retainer and the spring from the original lock.

    20200118_165753.jpg

Fron there I moved on to assembling and installing the intake I got. It's from amazon, actually a really nice product and fit. And about half the price of an AFE.

    20200118_191117.jpg

    20200118_191126.jpg

Now the only major downfall of the whole having a real intake thing is that I went full honda boy and shaved all the studs and holes in the engine  bay LOL. So now I'll be drilling and having to put in some nutzerts to keep this thing in place haha.

  5. FINALLY got some time to work on the car today. Alone in the shop was something I definitely needed as of recent and it felt great to get my hands on the car again!

First off I gutted the old door to have spare parts if needed. Plus it will make a cool walls hanger.

Not sure if mentioned this but the window didnt break and it was salvaged too.

    20200112_115727.jpg

I did find that the lock was broken when I pulled it from the handle, luckily I found a rebuild kit on amazon for $8 and it has good reviews. Was pretty excited that I dont need to re-key the car. Below you can see where its cracked.

Also washed the car for the first time since October which feels good.

And the plan is to get a proper cage in the car this winter so I pulled out the floor plates and all the dash accessories. Now all that's holding in the dash is the mounting bolts itself.

Lots of work ahead yet but felt great to get back in the shop.

Looks like they did a decent job for a drift car!

See.. if you weren't in Wisconsin where there is an off season for drifting you probably would have left it!

Hahah I'm thankful for an off season, it allows the cars to progress and get the refreshing they need. And honestly I absolutely HATE the stereotype that a drift car should be smashed and shitty.... that's not how it should be lol the midwest has a pretty good reputation though for having fairly nice built and refreshed cars. Thanks to the off seasons. Drifting is a rolling car show.

  7. UPADATE!

Been fairly quiet, snagged up a mint ass center exhaust bracket while at the junkyard.20191207_165352.jpg

Also got a sweet intake off amazon lol will post photos once installed but its really well made for $140 and is basically a AFE replica. Pretty amped on it.

    AND SOME GREATTT NEWS!

I cannot thank @Sam_Holzmann and his dad enough for the transport to and from the body shop.

The car is back at the shop and STRAIGHT!

Now this was done as a side job so all we had them do was pull the quarter straight, hang the door and get the metal as close to where it originally was.

Some putty work and paint to seal it and we are in business!

SUPER excited to be able to get working on the car again now 🤘

the low speed of this track sure makes collisions like this safer.

do you get extra points for being so close to each other or is that just part of the fun?

All of what we do is purely for fun. There is a competitive side to drifting but that's not what we do. Grassroots drifting is much different from competitive, and so is the operating cost lol. So yes we are literally putting money up in smoke 😂

Ouch, glad everyone's OK and the damage is not too bad. Up to that point looked like fun!!

What's the deal though with the guy standing in the infield, safety stewards would/should be cringing at the lack of protection if a car goes off. Death wish or is he agile when he needs to be?

Those are media guys, there are 2 flaggers on this particular course. It's more so up to the drivers to be aware of what is infront of them. When in tandem you are only going with the number of people that you communicate with before leaving the start line. Which is basically a common waiver between each other if shit like this was to happen. Drifting is a different animal than road racing and etc.

  10. UPDATE

soo dd77 season closer went pretty well this past weekend.

For the first time we used Sam's trailer for both cars!

It was a chilly morning both days but not as bad as past years for the fact that it is the last weekend in October lol

That's my buddies 1jz swapped s13 pitted with us as well!

Now on to the real interesting part lol.

We had another incident which turned out not as well as the last one. On advanced coming down the roller coaster hill sam over rotated infront of me. On that part of the track with it being downhill it's very hard to throttle out of the way and he wasnt able to do that and in turn I was already at angle and had nowhere to go as well lol. Everyone is okay!

SURPRISINGLY my door still opens fine using the inside handle! The window did not break as well, where it is is where it was when we hit. I'm just glad it didnt break from where it was otherwise myself and the girlfriend would have been eating glass.

It is also worth mentioning that both cars were still drivable. Ended up using the trailer landing gear and a ratchet strap to pull Sam's rad support and front end as straight as it could get for the limited tools.

Here is the video my girlfriend got from the run it happened, I also got it on my helmet cam but I still need to save it so I can post it!

    20191026_152623.jpg

  11. Not much new with the car as of now. Replaced the left axle again before DD76. Which was due to my own dumbassery, the outer joint was leaking grease from me using a persuader tonget it in the hub against my better judgement, and the cup bent allowing the grease to escape.

    Anywayssss.

The event went well, my first few runs I thought I heard a clunking in the rear end but it was inconsistent and ended up being my 2x4 e-brake and a beer cap 🤷‍♂️😂

Also @Sam_Holzmann and I finally touched tips, which was bound to happen with how close we get to eachother. Luckily there was no major damage. My bumper ejecto-ed as designed (3 small zip ties with the intent to break under pressure and then my bash bar bent in a bit. Which was easily bent back.

@Jdesign was in Sam's car when it happened even 😂

Here's a pic of the "damage" the bash bar was already bent back before this pic.

    20190928_170042.jpg

And a full rack of burnt tires from both sam and i.

And a few pics from media!
