Anything with a twin turbo V8 N63 and over 50k miles, E65/66 745’s and also M57 diesels (unless you remove all the emissions junk) All expensive to repair and generally have multiple issues

Well, stumbled across this page thanks to SteelBlue and suspenceful, and quite honestly don’t know how I haven’t found it sooner! Currently have a 2009 M3 family hauler/grocery getter/autoX machine and 2017 i3 with range extender (weird car, right?) Been wrenching on BMW’s for 9 years now in a couple different dealerships between AL and WI. Grew up here in the 920 and hope to stick around for a while! A couple people on here may know me if I’ve worked on your cars, and if I haven’t then maybe some day! Hope to see some of you fellow BMW drivers on the road!

Here’s a couple pics of some of my current and previous BMWs

Nice photo

I like that those aren’t a style of wheel you typically see on an E90. A dab of ride height reduction and some 15mm or so spacers would finish things off nicely

So my new wheels got here on Friday, which is also my first new set. Rohana RC10s wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
As soon as they arrived at the shop I threw the car on a lift to get them on, and was instantly heartbroken to find that the OEM lug bolts wouldn't work on the car because I couldn't get a socket around them in the holes. Unfortunately I won't be back in Appleton until April, so I'll just order some splined bolts and they will have to sit at the shop until then
Downpipes are going in soon but I won't be tuning the car for a while until this move is over, I'd hate to start having random stuff break while I'm traveling between Appleton and LaX so much.
I'm stoked for car season.

If you want to have "nice" wheels like a set of new apex ec-7, then yeah it'll cost you. My point was that you can make this a much more realistic proposition by getting some used OE BMW wheels - and 18" blizzaks are more like $800-900 mounted and balanced. I've mounted multiple sets of 18" Blizzaks as recent as 2017, including my old 135i. Go to Big Bear Tire in oconomowoc. They will price you right. You shouldn't have to spend more than $1500 on a full setup that includes brand spankin new Blizzaks if you get used OE wheels.
Not trying to be a dick, but literally everything you've been saying are "wants", not "needs" and to me it looks like you're finding every way possible to keep blowing your money away, and I'd rather see you be able to say "I can drive my car when I want regardless of the fact that I live in Wisconsin".
Or just buy a beater - which would be my preferred approach and honestly I agree with your logic right now because we're mid-March so there's 0 need to buy a beater car. You definitely have 7 solid months to plan for that.

Open wastegate sounds can suck my rod bearings. The high frequency whirr going in and out of synch with the engine speed though, that is such bitchin stuff.
Nothing beats the sounds you hear on your first drive after turbocharging a car that you have driven for years in NA mode.

I am all in favor of routing the blowoff valve hose into the cabin on the b-pillar right next to your ear.

I will agree, I'm almost 35 now and still love turbski noises. It's enough to make you want to set aside extra money for inevitable turbski failure because you know you're never going to stay out of boost once spring gets here and run them shits for days till the bearings grenade

i agree, rain dances and such, or the voodoo lady who squeezes the goat's testicles to bring good fortune. The garage stall for my E46 is currently occupied by building materials for some remodeling we are doing, so I've been parked outside for the past couple weeks. It's fucking miserable. I will say she starts like a champ even sitting for 3 days straight in 0 degree weather. No fuss at all.
But all I can think about is "damn i wonder how thick the 10w60 is resting in the oil pan of the M3 right now" especially since I don't have a heated garage.
also lars I agree you can probably deal with it for the rest of this season but I would definitely be looking into something for next winter.

Let's figure out the equivalent of a native american rain dance and do that for some sunshine and warm weather.
I for one wasnt expecting winter weather to ramp up in Feb. like this.

When the turbo in my subaru grenaded in february 2016 I had to run my 135 in snow for a month. It's miserable because anything other than a stock tune is too much torque for salted roads with RWD.
Highly recommend going the e46 route.

Yes, this is the engine owned by a hoonigan. I'm glad that he only owned it for a short period of time, and it was enthusiast owned before that. Fingers crossed that it holds up.
HPFP is electric, not belt driven.
