  1. What's amazing to me is it looks slow.  It's not dramatic in the least, just effortless all the way through.  I think that's a testament to the amount of wheel time you have, nice job!

  2. Friday night I had a chance to install my lip and side skirt extensions and Saturday morning I took the time to deep clean my wheels which were in dire need.

The lip install was pretty straight forward and fitment is probably a 3/5 at best.  It's what I'd expect from a $300 lip.  It's not full carbon and took some persuading to fit.  It came with spots to drill for the OE mounting points and most were roughly correct and a couple weren't even fucking close.  Overall I'm happy with the look of it on the car.  I didn't take any pictures of the side skirt extensions but that was very easy and fits well.  It came with an abundance of self tappers to install them and it's mounted very well to the car.  So well that after I told my kids not to step on them I found a foot print... and it's still attached!

For the wheels I took them off, soaked them then sprayed them down with Chemical Guys Sticky Citrus and let that sit for 15 minutes or so.  After that I went at them with a nylon wheel brush then rinsed them with a pressure washer.  I sprayed them down a second time with the Sticky Citrus and did some more scrubbing and rinsed again.  After they dried I used Griots 3-in-1 Ceramic Wax to try and make clean up easier later on.

I'm really impressed by how well the Sticky Citrus worked and I fee that it helped lift the brake dust and dirt more effectively than other products I've used but I did end up using almost a whole bottle.  I don't think my wheels have ever been this clean!  We'll see how effective the Griots is.  I've waxed my wheels in the past but it neve really helped repel contaminants or make cleaning them easier.  The last picture highlights how filthy my wheels were prior to me washing.

Those hypertracs, from what I can find, are like a 500tw tire, the conti ECS is like a 340tw. I wouldn’t expect too much from them for your autox needs.

Tredware is a number made up by the manufacturer that's only relative to other tires by that manufacturer.  I'm not expecting extreme grip but the reviews I've read place it pretty high up there as far as grip goes compared to other UHP A/S tires and even some Max Performance summers.  If it gets me around a track without dying a couple times a year it's done it's job. I'm looking forward to more wet road confidence!

  4. I lied, cancelled my Continental order earlier this week because @SteelBluehooked me up with Vredestein tire for a set to demo!  I'm getting a set of Hypertrac from them in 275/35r19 and 255/35r19.  They're a company out of the Netherlands and have been producing tires for the European market for over 100 years and launched in the U.S. last year with tires developed specifically for the North American market.  The reviews so far have been very positive so I'm excited to give them a try!

I'm hoping to have them on before Autox on 5/23 so they'll be put to the test quickly!

  5. I have a few parts ordered or here already!  I have a set of aeroflow dynamics side skirt extensions sitting in my garage, a GTS lip should be showing up Friday and a new set of Conti Extremecontact Sport's ordered.  I'm still deciding on Bilstein B8 vs coilovers but really leaning towards the B8's at this point.

I also free'd up some space in my garage so I'm going to pull the trigger on a Maxjax lift soon!

  6. I'm guilty of being cynical when it comes to some recent BMW art cars and I wanted to be cynical about this new interpretation but i'm actually really intrigued by this thought of AI learning to "paint".  It doesn't interest me from the perspective of what can the computer learn but how can someone utilize data science to make something.  I like this because personally, I can see things in my head that I can't get out in physical form whether it be through painting, drawing, wood or metal work ,etc so this to me is a way that someone can have an idea and make something that can spit it out.

I think the output is almost always going to be sterile until you can find a way to come up with "happy accidents" through the use of the inputs you're providing and see what comes out.  A lot of these liveries look like generic art but at the same time I could absolutely see some of them ripping down the straights at Road America and I'd be thrilled it wasn't the normal sponsor explosion a car.

    What are your thoughts?

  7. Cardone and Dorman aren't the worst out there.  I've installed I don't know how many of their half shafts over the years when I was working in shops and it never stood out to me as problematic.  The benefit for driveshafts is the remanned usually came with serviceable u-joints so it can at least be preventatively cared for.  If you're really concerned about what someone will think you can get a remanned Turner Motorsports remanned driveshaft but it's probably twice as much as the Cardone and I don't know that the quality is twice as good.  I don't know that anyone is really going to be that concerned about the brand of driveshaft at the time of sale for this car. The only thing that might stand out is if you out an OEM replacement on but that price has got to be insane.

  8. We bought my son a new bike as an early birthday present.  He was on a 12" Huffy that he outgrew and we're avid family riders so we put him in a 20" he can grow in to.  It's a Giant XTC Jr lite from Endurance House in Delafield and he's picking up on the hand brakes and gears really well already.  We easily have a few miles on it already.  It's a nicer bike than I have!PXL_20210502_180223324.jpg

I’d say life is pretty good when the problems to be sorted out are some faded badging. That or priorities out of whack 😄

It's nice to have a car that turns on whenever I want it to.

Mostly cosmetics, I have some OEM shadowline grilles on order and a spoiler as well as a tint appointment as it’s currently a fish bowl. I’m in the market for an exhaust too in particular a PE but might end up just doing the PE mod to the stock muffler. Other than that just a charge pipe. I’m probably not going to much internally for a little while longer.

I had the PE exhaust mod on my 07 335i with VRSF catless downpipes and enjoyed the sound.  It was a bit louder than stock inside but from the outside is where it really sounded better.

Thanks guys!  Are y'all taking into consideration the driveshaft is hosed?  The follow up question to that would be if it would be worthwhile to fix it, meaning would I get more for it fixed than the sum of as-is plus the repair.

To be honest, I was thinking quite a bit less than that.  Maybe I should just list it here and somebody who feels like doing the driveshaft job could get a deal.

Assuming the car is still drivable and the driving feel isn't compromised I did figure my number into the sale price on the low end.  If it's falling out and noticeable large vibration on takeoff then it'd be less.  Realistically it's about $500 - $650 for a Dorman driveshaft and $1000+ for OE.  Fixing the driveshaft will make it easier to sell so you're not dealing with people looking for a deal but I don't know that it adds a substantial amount of value to the sale price.
