It is indeed just 2x4 and hardware store hooks.
You could use an aluminum extrusion of sorts with sliding hooks possibly. There's gotta be an industrial solution available. Butchers rack maybe?
Ah ok, I'm thinking it wouldn't be impossible to put something together, just gotta find the right parts. Good idea on the butchers rack too, might be easier to make something like this vs a channel on the wall.
It doesn't really NEED to slide, I'd just like to accomodate N+1 if I can haha

Shit and I worried that 245s wont be enough for my m42t e21
Will 16s clear stock e36m3 or e46 330i brakes?
There are some 16's that will clear e36m brakes, but not the majority. As far as I know, no 16 will clear e46 330 brakes as they are slightly larger than e36m.

In non-absurd news, I got some new headphones today (Sony MDR-7506). I don't usually buy many sony products, but thought I'd give 'em a whirl.
The department I work in now (my title officially changed to "electrical engineer" last week, whatever that's worth...) is super quiet 90% of the time, but we have one guy who (amongst other annoyances), feels the need to speak three times louder than normal when he's excited about something. I needed something to help me maintain sanity when he gets in to a 45-minute conversation with the 70-year-old maintenance guy about custom-built RFID garage door openers/the best snowblower ever built (throws snow 60+ feet!)/chainsaws that cut concrete/Edison batteries (it's a conspiracy!)/etc. So i needed a closed-back headphone to replace my old go-to Grado SR-60e's.
Despite reviews to the contrary, I find the bass to be excessive, although I agree with the reviews that the treble is accentuated. Lately I've been digging into some dark techno stuff, and they work great for that, but overall I prefer my old grados. Much "smoother" sounding IMO, but I wouldn't fault anyone for preferring one over the other.
Grados are very hard to beat for the price, I love my SR80i's that I've had for years.

Welcome! That is so awesome!! Would love to see more, looks like an extremely clean car too

I'm using an 0w40 synthetic to take advantage of quick flowing oil during cold starts and adequate viscosity where temperatures get higher. Will probably switch to 5w50 in the summer since I prefer to have the windows open vs run the AC.

Forgot to post up this one: I picked up this 2011 specialized P.2 dirt jump bike with some upgrades a few years ago for goofing around when I lived downtown. I don't really ride it much anymore but I figure I'll hang onto it if the local clubs ever build the pump tracks they've been talking about at the local trails.

I'm looking to put up a rack like this in my basement, I need to come up with something better than 'bikes all over the place'. It's hard to tell, is that something off the shelf or just some 2x4s and hooks from the hardware store? I'd like something that I can slide the hooks back and forth to pack bikes together when I'm not riding them.

I forgot you were in the middle of a full home reno, too. How's yours going? I took on several projects to save us some money - laying about 1,400 sf of hardwood floors upstairs, building all the closet shelving, building the fireplace mantel, and building/painting built-ins in the kitchen. THEN, when that's all done I'll be starting on finishing the new portion of the basement. Which I found out when taking down the 4x8 sheets of foam board that they only fit down the stairs because they're flexible. All of the drywall will have to go down in 4x4 sheets. *crying inside*
That's such a bummer on the drywall, so many joints to tape... hopefully its all going smoothly! Mine is going pretty well all things considered! We finally finished our Kitchen remodel and it came out great, though I didn't do a majority of the work on it, just the demo, flooring, and some painting. Its nice to have a stove again haha. In the rest of the house we've put down about 1100sq*ft of flooring, re-trimmed most of the house, painted the windows and remaining existing trim white (from dark oak), painted most of the ceilings and walls, replaced every outlet/switch and replaced or refinished the ceiling fans and light fixtures, and re-doing the stairway from carpet to wood. That's "phase 1", and I'd say it's about 95% done, no longer feels like we are living in a construction zone which is awesome. Next up is the master bathroom (likely hiring that one out), half bath, dining room, and laundry room... THEN I can start on the basement lol. Feels like I am moving slowly, but between constant backorders of cabinets/appliances/materials this past year and not being a professional I've accepted that this is going to take somewhere between another year and the rest of my life.
Welcome to WIBASEMENTS, coming soon to HGTV!

Does automotive enthusiasm seem different to anyone else during the last year? I dont know if it’s just me, other hobbies, house projects, or what, but I think 2020 has been the year I have thought the least about cars since I was 6 years old.
All i’ve really been in the mood for is some Colonel Sanders cosplay and maybe a round of cribbage.
I barely touched my cars this year and didn't auto-x at all (I signed up for 3 and had to cancel on all of them), though I did drive the e30 quite a bit. Buying a house and renovating almost the entire thing has been the main culprit for the lack of car things though, it's been all consuming...

You just want us to have matching cars, don’t you! 😂 I definitely would go check that e91 out if it wasn’t all the way in Minneapolis.
That would be great. My only two “real” gripes were the ride and the sound, so I would imagine your car solves both of them. I do remember enjoying the handling/ride quality the one time I rode in it on the way to road America, and the performance exhaust sounded pretty great too.
Duh! I'm a bit biased but space gray looks fantastic even when its super dirty, and an e91 msport is rare in any configuration. In my opinion, travelling for the right car (not necessarily that one) is worth it as it opens up lots more options, I went to New Mexico for mine for example. Though that's not as easy with the pandemic at the moment...
just shoot me a text if/when you want to! Could help you decide if an e91 is ultimately what you want or not!

I held off on opening my gift until I delivered mine, but I finally got to open it today. Got a handy Milwaukee pick set, some really sweet (and mint) dealer sales brochures for the e30 and e34, and of course, stroopwafels. Thanks @m42b32!
You're welcome! Glad you like it! I was trying to think of the most useful tool I always forget about and a nice set of picks is definitely the answer. I picked (heh) up the same set of those Milwaukee ones not too long ago and they're amazing, have yet to damage one unlike my old craftsman set that have been destroyed, enjoy!

Its got a bit higher mileage than you were looking for, but this 2012 rwd/m-sport is still available https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/292893695235206/?ref=search&referral_code=undefined
My 2 cents on an e91: From what I've read while I was searching (I haven't driven an xdrive to confirm this), the xdrive cars handle noticeably worse than their RWD counterparts. You are welcome to take mine for a spin to compare while the other one is still fresh in your mind, it's rwd/sport/auto with 102k and basically stock (aside from the exhaust and a euro intake) for reference. It still has the original suspension and on soft snow tires so its probably not the best example ever, but gives you a decent idea. With decent summer tires, I think the rwd/sport combo handles really well and is also surprisingly comfortable for long drives. I've had zero regrets with it so far, typical BMW issues aside. The extra space and practicality of the wagon is worth the price premium and weight tradeoff in my opinion.

Hey Guys, unfortunately the crack on my rear 225M is too bad to safely repair and I've had zero luck finding a replacement without buying a new one from the dealer.
If anyone comes across a clean/reasonably priced set of staggered (19x8.5 and 19x9) style 351M wheels from an F10 Msport in the Milwaukee area let me know, looking to buy a set before the spring.
They look fantastic on E91's in my opinion.

Got a box just before Christmas but didn't open until after I got back in town as I didn't have my gift totally squared away yet. Opened it up and found a really awesome promotional poster for the first 318i (the other side has tons of cool info and pictures), an original sales brochure for the E91 (space gray one on the cover too!), and an 8 foot wide BMW Motorsport banner that will look excellent hanging in my garage! Thanks a ton @YoungCR!!!

I ordered my gift over a week and half ago, and while it was projected to arrive today, it looks like the tracking number provided through eBay isn’t even active yet on the USPS site 🙃 I apologize in advance, one of you is going to get a belated gift. I’ll be tossing in some stroopwafels as an apology. I will be messaging the seller to see what the deal is tonight.
I've been having trouble with eBay/USPS as well (unrelated to secret santa). It's been "USPS awaiting item" since Dec 6th, and the seller said he dropped it off at the post office on Dec 7th...
I also forgot to post a few days ago but I did receive my gift!! I am not letting myself open it until mine is delivered.

Trek told me they were having high failure rates on those particular spokes, then enlightened me on the wild world of spokes and how very stressed they are. I had never thought much about the fatigue life of spokes before then.
I had no idea how stressed spokes were until I started reading about building wheels. I always thought they were just a metal stick, nothing special. Its crazy how much of a science you can make it with balancing spoke tensions, all the different types of spokes, nipple material, lacing patterns, etc.
