With the new cable I was able to connect to the ECU in boot mode on JMGarageFlasher without any issues and read the full (512kb) file. Once I had a copy of the original software, I did a full write with the new MS430056 software from "daniel f." on e46fanatics/MS43wiki that has both EWS and checksum CHK5 disabled! Once that process was complete, I connected the ECU via Galletto and read the new partial flash, pulled it into TunerPro:

The software now shows up as version 0056 instead of the original 0066, meaning the flash was a success!! This is big progress towards getting this on the road. With this basic EWS delete the m54 should be able start, idle, and rev to a limited 5500rpm, which is all I need at this point.
I will, however, get a whole slew of trouble codes and errors, one of them being a 5500rpm 'limp mode' caused by a missing speed sensor signal. I can use TunerPro to remove this limiter (or get the ECU to accept the e30 speed sensor signal), as well as disable any unnecessary DTC's, force emissions readiness, etc. I'll only want to start messing with this after I get the car running though, that way I can eliminate screwing up the ECU if/when I'm trouble shooting.

Little update.. Since the s54 ofh does not have tabs to mount the power steering reservoir my brother made one that we ended up mounting by the driver side motor mount arm.

We ended up converting the lines to -6an and instead of using the stock ps cooler I bought an auto trans heat sink and mounted that in front of the steering rack. After a couple trips to behling I everything I need to make my oil cooler lines, Vanos line, and power steering lines. We shaved the top of the core support so there was a decent mounting point for the oil cooler.

And I had my buddy that painted the engine bay paint the brake booster as well.

But it there’s quite a bit more to do to make the euro district deadline.

Falling a bit behind schedule, but I got the engine back in this weekend!

I’m back down to one job so I’ll have time during the week after work to work on it.

Thanks! All I have to do is buy a few gaskets, the oil pump, and send some parts though the paint line at my work and the engine will be ready to go in!

The engine is finally painted. It took longer than I wanted to but that’s because we ran out of propane and and when that happened I lost ambition. Haha. My buddy came out to my shop and put the primer down Saturday night. Then came out tonight to lay down base and clear.
Also since my last I got the spacers to space out my power steering pump.
I also put new seal on the vanos pistons and put the anti rattle kit in. I don’t have any pictures of the process as my phone died when I started.

Now when @Tkuhn has time he will be doing the wire tuck.

The last couple weekends have been somewhat productive.
The engine bay welding is complete and body filler is mostly done. Just got to sand a couple more spaces and lay down a little bit more filler.

I also picked up an s54 oil filter housing from @TehRaydarlover. I bolted it to the block to take measurements for the power steering pump spacers.

    Thanks Jason!
I got to keep moving on this. The current plan is to have it done for Euro District in April.

Be careful, my e36 has been in the corner for years now because I thought it would be a good idea to take it apart and trim out unnecessary stuff and seam weld.  Looks good though, I have had some trouble with seam sealer that I couldn't get out of the cracks burning and making the welds look poor, and tricks for that?

Thank you! Although not too sure many people do tucks on e46s, atleast that I've seen haha. I'll be doing Nicks as well, but I can gaurentee not many people go this in depth either lol.

    UPDATE
Welding has been completed on the bay. All of the holes that I wanted to have filled to be shaved are completed as well as the stitch welding on the under sides of the frame rails. Next up is some more grinding then filler, sanding and paint!

My wiring supplies came in as well and I am super happy with the way things are turning out. Got both of the harnesses finalized where they exit the cabin of the car and are routed up though the fender frames. I learned alot about wiring and my work developed alot over the years that I was building my civic, if there is one thing I learned its do it right the first time (I redid the wiring on my hatch 4 times before I was close to happy with it). So with that being said I am going into this car with every bit of knowledge I have and doing everything right the first time.
All of the wiring is wrapped in flame resistant tech-flex and the harness connections are Deutsch plugs as well.

Here is the passenger side connections.

And on the driver side I was able to use just one 12 pin bulkhead style connector.

And I was also able to figure out the routing and set up for the heater valve wiring. This car will still have a heater core and heat, because I enjoy driving in fall with the windows down and the heat on haha.

That's it for now. Grinding, filler and sanding will hopefully start this week. Then once the bay is near ready (or i get sick of not feeling my fingers) I will be continuing the wire tuck with routing to all of the components on the front end.

The other week I pull the engine out of the e46.

This past week end I started to shave and stitch weld the engine bay.  Welding should start this weekend.
