Given the location here’s a guess. There is an outside temp sensor that fits in the e30 325i/s drivers side plastic brake duct, the sensor plugs into a connector with wires that feed info to the onboard computer on your dash.

Alright. So the rally was pretty awesome. I drove out to Denver the first day, and then to Mexican Hat, Utah. I did some exploring with the time I had while I waited for my friend to get there with his RS3 (in the pictures). The first day was driving from Mexican Hat to Escalante. The scenery was mostly what's in the pictures. We did the gravel switchback up one of the rock formations. The day ended in Escalante with eating at a small restaurant and a gathering at a vacant parking lot.
The next day we drove from Escalante to Mount Pleasant and the day ended at the Basin Drive-In theater where the Overcrest guys put together a short movie recognizing automotive films. The second day of driving was more long and winding roads outside of the desert/rocky area. Both days were gorgeous and it was amazing how much the scenery changed. I had no complaints at all. I ended up driving straight home leaving 4am on Sunday morning and getting home at 6am on Monday. The car did about 3850 miles with virtually no issues. I have a vibration over 80 and a rattle under the car which I think is the exhaust rubbing on something. Very happy with it though!

I also fully installed the Karbonious Air box over the weekend and got it tuned by HTE. The install was very easy straight forward. The most time consuming part was wiring in the new MAP sensor, but even that was not bad.
Overall, this is my new favorite mod on the car. This thing sounds INSANE. I watched so many videos before installing this over the years and nothing captures the sound properly. It sounds like the motor is sitting right next to you. I love it. The only cons I have noticed so far is a torque loss between 3-4500 RPMS. I have a dyno session Monday and this might get fixed, I am not sure. Even if it is not, it is very minor, and there is for sure a lot more top end power. Surprisingly, my gas mileage (as long as im not beating on it) is about the same as well. I got 31 MPG on the way to Final Bout over the weekend which is awesome with the $55 a gallon for premium right now.
This car has evolved so much in the year I have owned it and is quickly becoming my favorite car I have owned.

A bit of a photo dump. Finally got my wheels on, and of course I went with a tried and true wheel choice for the E36. Apex ARC-8 in 17x9 et30 with a 225/45/17.

About that time of the year to throw together a build update. Going to start with a photo dump, will go into detail eventually.  Ill get to everything eventually, but let me know what you would like to hear about. 🙂

I've been driving it. And so far the Bosch fuel pump has been working. I returned the Delphi and OEM pump to FCP. I ended up using stainless steel "hobby wire" to secure the pump to the housing by wrapping the pump and the housing then tightly twisting the ends and folding that over. I felt the most confident in that.
After driving the car some it was getting hot with the AC on when in slow traffic and even then still running a bit warm. The aux fan was not turning on with the AC and traced it back to the fan to body harness connector not staying secure. Replaced that with a new connector.

Also swapped in a new engine fan clutch with an Behr clutch rather than the Uro one I put in there originally and realized that the fan that came with the car is from an early model. So I got the correct fan.

And then keeping with tradition of recycling parts between @The Full Banana and myself, I bought his MaxJax from him since he has decided he no longer wants a garage. I have that set up, waiting on some DeWalt Anchor Epoxy from Grainger to finish installing the anchors. And the only good place to put the lift was centered with the overhead door. But that meant the garage door opener robbed me of about 12" of lift. Out with that and in with a wall-mount unit.

Boris3 reacted to straight6pwr in E30 Girling front brake caliper rebuild question
i think it was a good choice to return, considering the pitting is not repairable. had similar pitting on one my e34 calipers that ended up nearly locked up. now, the guide pins were pretty bad too, so its hard to say which was the #1 culprit, but they would have bad hard to trust as a rebuild.

I just picked up a set of bottlecaps from @Boris3. I only need one of them for a spare to keep in the e30. Which means the remaining three are up for grabs. The price of each one will be one six-pack of Lakefront beer - you can pick the variety.
Pick up is in Cedarburg at any time or Menomonee Falls during the day. They have tires, but they are old.
    Thanks!

Just picked up a very nice 1999 Z3M Coupe this past weekend. Only 56k on the clock. Originally cosmos over black, repainted very well back in 2005 in Laguna Seca Blue. Can't wait to start modifying it! Stock currently, other than H&R springs. First order of business is finding some oem headlights.

Clearing out some old race gear:
    1) SOLD:  Used RACEQUIP 6pt HANS camlock race harness. Pull-up 3'' lap belts, 2" shoulder belts for use with HANS (head and neck restraint), 2" crotch straps, snap-in connectors for lap and crotch straps, four mounting bolts included (shoulder harness belts wrap around the harness bar on roll bar or roll cage). Everything works and never in any wrecks. FIA tags expired in 12/2020 so no longer valid for racing, but still valid for Track Days/Driving Schools depending on your organization's rules. $60 obo
    2) Used SCHROTH Left/Right Side Net with expired SFI tags (date of manufacture May 2013). Older design with ratchet tension adjuster. I replaced the original pull tab ring which was a weakness in this design with a heavy duty key key. Net is in good shape and everything works. $50 obo
3)Two RACEQUIP Ribbon window nets with expired SFI tags. One manufactured September 2012, the other July 2017. $5.00 each

I don’t see why it wouldn’t fetch 18-20k, all you have to do is bring a low mile example to BaT for people to throw their wallets at instead of hunting down the cars themselves. Real silly to pay a $8500 service bill for $2k in parts to try and flip a car as well 🙄

Car up in the air and taken apart.
The drivers side sway bar mount is perfectly intact. The passenger side not so much.

The ends of the cracks were drilled. Metal pounded/pulled flat, welded, ground, and prepped for a reinforcement plate.

I had ordered some pre-made reinforcement plates and was surprised when they were only 0.114” thick (11 ga.) Then I measured the chassis sheetmetal. It comes in at a measly 0.053” (17 ga.).

Massive thanks to @Bassboy3313 for  coming over and welding, can’t thank him enough for his help.
Grade 8.8 screws were preheated to 300 F, welded, then slow cooled.

Since the drivers side was intact, that reinforcement plate was welded in as-is. Once both reinforcements were welded in they were painted. I am making this post while waiting for the paint to dry. I should have things buttoned up, re-grease the sway bar, and be back in action later today.

Another vote for hanging on to the forum. The mix of threads on car projects, other projects, and other things of interest works. Tech and diy information from folks who get their hands dirty, aspirational / inspirational projects,  and local classifieds from folks you can trust are things to be valued.

Covid hasn’t been mentioned but this has had a disruptive effect on gatherings and narrowed a lot of focus to home, increasing work demands if you’ve kept it, and all the needs and importance of family  with school disruptions if you’ve got kids. Even though events still happened last year there was a Covid effect.
Hopefully this is a better year. TJ has the e30 picnic in the works for early June, planning for DE and other assorted track events are underway (shameless plug: Midwestern Council has a track weekend with DE and a race comp school on Saturday, and sprint races on Sunday at BFR later next month, April 24-25). Spreading the word through the forum about local events will be a help.

Think about ways that Badger Bimmers can help spread the word about what WIBimmers is about and up to.  The Immer is always looking for stories and seeing the length of some threads I know you guys can write. This might generate some more traffic to the forum. Let me know, I just started a stint on the board.

He might get it from a sucker.  All those cooling parts replaced and now a "head gasket".  I'd put money on it having a cracked head... I wouldn't pay more than a grand and that is if it isn't rusty underneath.  "Odometer stopped today" sure it did...
