  1. Hello other car people. I'm listing my 16x8 ESM 002R et20 wheels with 225/45 Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tires. Tires have a fair amount of tread left. The pair that were on the front have a little less tread depth than the pair that were on the rear. But nothing a spirited, slide-filled drive through the countryside couldn't even out.

Center caps are all included which have BMW logo sticker things in the middle. No bends or curbing that I’m aware of. I can take individual pics of wheels, too.

The wheels are $225ea new and the tires are ~$440/set new. I'm asking $800.

  2. Hello everyone:

I'm listing my cardinal sport seats for sale to help fund something else. The PO installed the zoomzoomzoomzoomzoom vinyl upholstery kit from eBAy. That alone appears to be about $500 and I'd say he did a pretty good job. Everything works on them except the seat release thing. They just fall back. They will not come with sliders.

Looking around at prices I guess I'll start with $600 for them.

    Thanks

  3. Got the car running last night. Took some attempts. I put in a new fuel pump and it wasn't getting any power when cranking. I jumped the pump relay pins and it started. Plugged the relay back in and now the pump was magically getting power. And then while running I was getting a weird noise which ended up being the CPS harness sitting on the alternator fan getting chewed up. It didn't wear through to the bare wires, but it did remove all the protect coating and the shielding. SOOOOOO took that out and ordered an OEM CPS and a couple new relays.

This round of things grew beyond the originally planned suspension and exhaust and there some things to button up. But I'm really excited.

Beyond the e30 I have a full suspension refresh coming for the 850, rubber coolant and intercooler hoses to get rid of all the dumb red silicone hoses, and things to give it a good tune up.

  4. I have this box of parts I don’t want. It has a good working coil, a red and orange turn signal, condor engine mounts, garagistic poly transmission mounts, oem rubber mounts, and an e46 washer pump (I believe).

I a man of simple pleasures and I figure this is all worth at least a 12 pack of beer? It’s available in Cedarburg during all the time or Menomonee Falls during the day.

  5. Took the opportunity while my wife was in Chicago this weekend to have a couple late nights working on the bmw. Got all of the front and rear suspension in place. Still need to go through everything and tighten it up. New shifter assembly in. Driveshaft in.

Shifter is an IE DSSR, Garagistic solid selector rod joint (highly not recommended), delrin bushings on the shifter holder arm thing, and the Turner poly arm to car holder thing. Shift feel is fantastic.

Also used some permatex epoxy on the throttle body. I think this should work nicely to keep the barbs secure and not cause a vacuum leak.

The R has been great. Next on the list for that is fixing the rear window rollers, replacing the blower motor motor, putting a stock cat back in, and some other general maintenance.

  6. Alright. I'm finally making some progress on the e30. While take a couple steps back. While snooping around the engine I noticed quite a bit of oil seeping out around the intake manifold gaskets and I have a fair amount of oil in the throttle body. I've read some is normal, but excessive oil in the intake manifold typically points to a vacuum leak.

I ordered new intake manifold gaskets and oil drain pipe gaskets. But I think if I do have significant oil leaks they are coming from the two barbs for the IAC and brake booster. They are pretty loose. I've read that they are simply pressed into the manifold and can loosen up over time. These are some pretty solid vacuum leaks for how loose they are.

Does anyone have any recommendations for fixing these?

    Thanks!

That is awesome!  I love the looks of these old bricks!

An 850 Turbo was my first car and what started everything for me. And at that time an 850R was the coolest thing in the world to me. So I’m very excited to have one for a daily.

I dont normally like yellow cars but those 850 turbos in yellow with gray wheels definitely do the trick for me.

    cool snag!

Those are special cars. But I couldn’t justify the prices people ask for them. It’s insane.

The 850R is up and the exhaust is out. I have a resonator and muffler coming this week so I can fix it. Some other little bits to take care of and then I’ll get it registered. The E30 is coming along as well.

Does the black ceiling make it feel "cavey"? I've always liked white ceilings as it makes it feel more open.

I don't think it feels like a cave. When I'm in there I don't really notice the ceiling at all because of it being black and because the shades on the new lights -  celling kind of disappears.

It is obviously nowhere near as bright in there as it was when the walls and ceilings were white and I just had bulbs on the ceiling and not downward light fixtures. But that's not the look and feel I was going for.

  9. Update: We moved back into our house at the end of March. Between the end of February and up to a few weeks ago the garage became a full blown storage building. We moved furniture from the basement of the house back into the garage to give contractors space to work and stuff that we boxed up at the apartment was put in the garage to make moving day easier. You could barely see the floor or move around in there.

BUT, the garage is finally all cleaned up. I have a little bit of paint and trim to do, but I told myself I wouldn't touch the bmw until the wall with the overhead door was painted (I know if I didn't do it now, it would then never get done). Now, I can start on the bmw.

Haven't been paying much attention to car news, but heard that Hyundai was coming out with a new "mini truck". So disappointed:

The bed fit's half a mountain bike... at an angle... I looked it up and the bed of a Subaru Brat was 2 inches wider and 8 inches longer. This is not a truck, it's a hatchback with part of the roof missing.

When I read this as Mother Fuckers it makes the whole thing better.

My dad was on the zoning and planning committee in Mukwonago many years ago and said same as you.  A lot of it came down to how the committee was feeling during that request, was the request reasonable and was the person in front of them a dick.

At this point I'm going to keep my head low and figure the situation out.

I honestly think your better approach would be to go to their office reiterate that you are a taxpayer and you can do whatever you want on your private property. It's something that most public officials rarely hear and easily forget. So if you remind them, that you are a taxpayer and a resident of your community, they'll probably let you do whatever you want.

If you don't believe me, I recommend watching this documentary that follows the lives of a branch of local government employees - it's called Parks and Rec. Idk if you've heard it before, but look it up.

I appreciate your insight on this.  I didn't realize the variance process was such a pain in the ass.  I figured it was basically asking for a "variance" to the ordinance and was decided by a local committee of tribal elders that gathered around a cauldron and stared at the smoke until the answer presented itself.

I mean...you're not completely wrong there. It typically is a bunch of old people who have lived in the community forever and feel like this is their calling. The people on our Board probably range in age from 70-85 and have been on it for years and years.

The law regulating Variances comes from the State, but variance requests go through the local government (Zoning Board of Appeals). They're supposed to follow the laws from the State, but every community is different. I've seen MF grant some variances that in NO WAY should have been allowed and I've seen them deny ones that I thought were super reasonable requests. Some communities don't like doing them because they don't want to set a precedent. If it was me, I'd look to see what variances they've granted in the past few years.

I have a whole story on this from when we bought our house and being told almost the exact same thing by our building inspector that he told you. I ultimately got what I wanted and didn't have to go through the variance process.

  13. 1 hour ago, patsbimmer1 said:

I'm the same.  I understand the why and the inspector has been great about explaining the history of how the ordinances came about and it exactly was people abusing the rules in the past but for fuck sake if I'm proposing something very reasonable then why not allow me to do it on the little piece of land I pay for.  What's bothersome is they won't even consider a variance because "If we did that we'd have to do that for everyone".  I want to fight and attempt to change policy but I also feel like that'd be a waste of my time and at this point I'm flying under the radar.

For shits and giggles last night I drove around my subdivision and found many examples of people having more than one accessory building which looked just fine because the people that spent that money did it well.  I also found quite a few people who opted for the shed-in-a-box solution with the tarp like walls and it looks like trash.  That's acceptable but a very nice building that matches the landscape of the yard and improves the value of my property is fuckery.

To be fair - variances are regulated by the State and for a municipality to legally grant a variance they have to prove that it isn't a result of a self-imposed hardship. Wanting a second shed where the current Code says you can't is a self-imposed hardship.

But you're totally right, the number of people who just build the shed (me included) vastly outnumber those who do it the right way.

Only speaking from experience - most Trustees, Councilperson, etc. doesn't know what's going on in the community unless someone brings it up. We've changed ordinances multiple times since I've been here because people bring up an issue and it gains traction.

The other thing that is funny about ours is that 60% rule only regulates detached accessory structures. So if someone has a 900sf house, and they want to build a 3,000sf garage and attach it to the house via a breezeway, that's allowed. Most Zoning Codes are pretty archaic as well and rarely get updated because it is an extensive process to do.
