Looking good! Those are my favorite OEM 335i wheels.
Nice to see that the HPFP was done. Plugs are never a bad idea. Coils are probably fine if you're not having any misfires or stumbles. If you are, replace them and take a look at the injectors. Turbos or injectors could be the cause of your startup smoke. Keep an eye on your oil filter housing, if you notice leaking or seeping, those gaskets should be replaced. Do you hear any wastegate rattle on decel?

Oh I also found the manual in the glovebox, and that contained the best sight known to any BMW buyer, a treasure of maintenance records!
Nothing exciting, just HPFP and some work on the front brake rotors around 40k miles.

Great buy!  220 - 230 is normal oil temp.  It won't ever sit in the middle unless it's well below zero.  Were the injectors ever done?  Original turbos or warranty replacements?  As far as mods, buy a zhp knob ASAP.  It's one of the best things you can do in terms of driving feel.

So it finally happened, I bought my new toy. I flew out to Cleveland, OH yesterday to pick up my new baby, an 07 335i. Now that its finally home I can share a couple pics of it, so here she sits.
Its 100% stock (for now), just ticked over 81k miles on the way home, and has sport and cold weather packages. Also has a third pedal, that was an interesting experience. My first manual trip, alone, and starting at an airport during rush hour. Then headed across three states and 500 miles of toll roads. Good practice for sure, but I do wish I could have taken my time a little.
Anyways, it needs a little TLC but I don't think anything too bad. Badges front and rear are worn off so the front one is in the mail. Brakes are a little wobbly so those will need to be redone soon. Windshield wipers miss a spot right across the rain sensor so the automatic wipers don't work properly, those will need to be replaced. Oh and I don't know if this is normal or not, but it smokes out of the exhaust on start up a little (only for a minute or two), and the oil temp seems to run around 220-230 during highway driving which isn't dead center.
But I feel like I got a good deal on it and I have extra money set aside for repairs and mods, but I plan to do mostly just maintenance this year. I don't know that any of the usual wear items have been replaced, so I'm thinking it will at least need plugs and coils as preventative items, and I'll have my shop do an oil change and inspection to see if they find any leaks or other stuff that needs attention. If that doesn't ruin me I'll be able to do all the usual bolt-ons sometime next spring hopefully.

On a side note, I lost my apartment/parking ramp keys someplace during the trip, so the car is 15 minutes away from me at my inlaws  I miss it already

Man I want this... And it is in my budget, and TECHNICALLY a boosted 6 cylinder just like a 35i.

Welcome to dealing with 335i bros. That's why I gave up on trying to buy one 5 months ago and bought my wagon instead. Combined with the seller being in the Chicago area, this was bound to end in failure.
For every 1 worthwhile seller there's 10 who are just complete tools.

ok fuck it we're doing this. The guy agreed to take 250 for the transmission which is at least $300 less than what ebay was gonna hit me for. Good job Spence.
@YoungCR  i'm literally heading over to pick this up right after i make coffee and surf the web for a few more parts. So I'll likely be out that way by late morning maybe 10:30 or 11

I will agree with you when it comes to interior design.  This looks like a giant step forward for the series but compared to competitors it's sad.  Look no further than Audi, I think they're interior design is gorgeous, the seats feel great and look bad ass and all of the touch points are wonderful.  Mercedes has always had a great interior and they only get better.  I always dealt with BMW's interior because it was drivercentric and I knew I was getting the best sum of all parts.  BMW really lost me when the center stack stopped facing towards me.
As far as driving dynamics BMW has always been the beacon of light that others hoped to attain.  I don't know that BMW has gotten worse but everyone else has gotten so good!  You talk about competitors to the F8x and you look at the Camaros and Mustangs running around the track and they are absolutely fantastic!  The other Germans still aren't in that realm but Mercedes has taken a leap in the power game and can most certainly run down an M5 in a straight line.  Audi is resting on it's trendy good looks as opposed to hardcore sedans. The other aspect of this whole thing is the market itself doesn't want a sedan.  SUV's are the thing to buy and as a company if you don't make what people are buying then you'll be left behind.  BMW is a business first and foremost, they aren't a boutique car maker anymore.  They have made no qualms about wanting to be the largest volume luxury car maker.  With that comes compromise to hit mass market targets.  This is what we have with the F90 and it's still not a bad car.  It's not a razor sharp track tool that can also take you golfing.  It's a status symbol that does everything kinda good.

Interesting. I actually think BMW is still way behind the curve on overall interior design compared to competitors, and I do agree with Chris that this is still reminiscent of the F10 which wasn't a horrible looking car on the outside. I'd take an E63 AMG wagon over an F90 all day long, though. It doesn't matter how much power BMW left on the table with the past use of the S63 - the odds are still in favor of Mercedes having the faster car, historically speaking. In the past, the M5 was the car you bought if you want something that can go 200 mph and be comfortable, but still have some attention to the road. AMG was the 200 mph and more luxurious with a stronger motor, but far less "driver-centric". As far as anyone with a brain can see, BMW is shifting the discussion away from driving experience and over to clinical results.
IMO the M5 struggles with its identity just like the M3/M4. The lines have blurred enormously across competitors. For many years these cars used to represent a specific staple and they were "it". They defined the idea of "perfect balance" of a car that had luxury, could handle well, and still be modestly fast. Look at all the cars these days that make the M4 look stupid. There are fewer competitors in the M5 level of car to compare against, but judging by the rest of BMW's higher end lineup results when compared with other manufacturers, the reviews haven't been stellar. They are lagging and I feel like with the specs on this new M5, they are chasing approval ratings rather than just focusing on what made M great to begin with and letting that speak for itself, which would undeniably bring a greater win.

Guys, it's not even DCT, it's a steptronic trans.  True automatic with a torque converter and all.  That's stupid.  The bespoke engine thing doesn't bother me as much as they proved they can make a great M car without using a bespoke engine in the 1M.  The S63 was a great engine in the F10 and will continue to be a great engine in the F90 and we know they left gobs of power on the table when they put it in the F10.  The drivetrain seems like a good idea but i'll be interested to hear how it feels.  The M5 keeps getting heavier and faster but it was never meant to be a hardcore racer.  It's an executive sedan.  It was made to have really nice materials, cutting edge technology and a badass engine to impress your country club friends with.  I don't think the F90 is a particularly bad looking car, they definitely furthered the design language that started in the F10.
If I had $150k to go spend on a daily driver this would be a serious contender.
Shut up with your electric car talk you robot loving asshole!

Alright friends, the time has come to employ your assistance.
I listed my E46 for sale yesterday but I'm regretting that right now given that it's a rust-free sport wagon and I've already R&R'ed so much other stuff - all it really needs is a manual transmission to be 100% perfect as a year-round daily in Wisconsin.
So I think I'm gonna swap it and keep the car. I'm either gonna do it before winter, or first thing next Spring. I'm more inclined right now to just track down a decent transmission, harness and maybe pedal assembly. The rest is all off the shelf and can be bought at any time.

I have watched all the ShopLife vids that detail this swap end-to-end on a RWD which isn't terribly different. It's actually easier on the AWD models because you can reuse the entire driveshaft for AWD. If I can source a transmission from another touring AWD (unlikely) it would preserve the current diff of 3.46. If I get any other AWD manual, it's a 3.23 - oh well. The biggest difference between RWD and AWD swap is just how many more bolts you need to remove to get all the AWD crap off.
By my estimation, the parts needed are as follows:
    - manual 5sp trans and transfer case from a 325xi  (possibly 330xi? not sure if that fits yet but i've heard it does)
    - new clutch/FW
    - new guibo and probably center support bearing
    - shifter assembly (uuc dssr probably absolutely)
    - pedal assembly
    - clutch lines
    - transmission wiring harness
    - new engine mounts and transmission mounts
    - new rear main seal
    - ZHP shift knob obviously
and I've got people to do the coding when it's all done.
So, if anyone has any beats on a 325xi manual transmission (and ideally a transfer case as well with mounting plate) - send it my way.
I'm currently looking at potentially buying the following assembly but I haven't done enough market research yet to know if it's a good deal or not: http://www.ebay.com/itm/142465262971

It lost compression on cylinder #3, motor is constantly misfiring and running rough. Needs to be repaired internally or replaced.
Chances are, it's gonna be a while until the car is back on the road. I don't have the funds.
True, but to be fair, I bet this is accurate. I spent a lot of time replacing the turbos and would assume pulling the motor and re-installing it would probably take awhile.
I'm fully aware of the situation I'm in. Problem is, I don't have the funds.
Care to share links to motors in WI with less than 50k miles? I've found a couple for ~$2500, but this was the lowest mileage one I could find locally.
