I must be a n00b because those stock wheels look just like the Style 5's you bought, lol.

If you haven't already noticed, YouTube and Instagram are where I post most of my content. If you aren't already subscribed/following there, you're missing out
That being said, I have exciting news I want to share! I know Brian already posted a thread congratulating me, but it makes sense to share it here too.
First pass on 20psi ran an 11.29 @ 128mph with a 1.94 60ft.
Second pass on 25psi ran a 10.53 @ 137mph with a 1.73 60ft.
Third pass on 28psi ran a 10.36 @ 134mph with a 1.59 60ft.Log: https://datazap.me/u/suspenceful/1036-13409mph?log=0&data=1-3-4-11-25-26-27-28-29
I actually set a record on my 3rd pass with the 10.36 ET! Currently the fastest manual trans N5X BMW with stock chassis. Ghassan Automotive went 9.6 but they have a custom back-halfed chassis.
I think I can run 9's as I was misfiring during my 10.36 pass, watch the video!

Was looking at Groms on Facebook Marketplace and came across this, lol
I trimmed the video, but c'mon

On 6/9/2020 at 10:35 PM, HipMF said:As I'm sure you're aware, getting fast and consistent 60-foot times will be imperative if you intend to get into the 9s. Just like in road racing, if you're not fast out of the corner, you're losing time the whole way down the straightaway. The car seems to hook up pretty well off the line, but there's no way you can make the most out of the available traction just with your left foot. The difference between a good launch and a bad one will be down to millimeters and 1/10ths of a second. I'm not recommending this solution per-se, but it is one way to take the variables out of your launch:
Yes, it's a screen-door closer connected to the clutch pedal. Obviously not the most elegant or highly engineered solution, but it allows you to just slip your foot off the clutch and the car launches itself. Crude for sure, but by adjusting the pivot point, you can get the right amount of clutch slip to keep the engine at the right power output for the traction that's available and it takes the human error out of the equation and allows you to dial in the launch. I'm sure there's a better solution out there, but the point is if you can't nail the launch, then the rest of your run is worthless, and unless you're some kind of 7th level Shaolin clutch guru, you're never gonna get a consistent launch just relying on your left leg.
Believe it or not, I already tried an even more advanced version of a clutch slipping device about a year ago. Clearly you're not watching my videos (kidding)
Watch this video (I time-stamped it to start at the point I'm talking about the device):
It didn't work as I wanted it too. Would slip too much even at the fastest slip point, and then would interfere with my shifting down the track even though it wasn't supposed to be.
Great idea in theory, but I think I'll just try to train my legs as best I can. It'll never be perfect, but with these bias ply tires, I can almost dump the clutch like I did for my 1.59 60ft and the slicks will absorb the hit and propel forward. Completely different feeling than my radial tires, couldn't believe it 'til I used them.

1st. When I tried 2nd, it would bog every time.

Thanks @B C! Still on a piggyback tune tho
Shooting for 9's by the end of the year. Will post more info in my build thread soon.
-
Was nice seeing/talking to you there! Great driving as always. I have some work to do...
Do you know if there will be photos from this RA event?

The tires showed up and I mounted them right away! I am thoroughly impressed with the Falken Azenis FK510 tires. Tread pattern is extremely similar to Michelin Pilot Super Sport and the grip is actually better. Not an apples-to-apples comparison because the MPSS tires weren't new and were narrower, but the Azenis are super grippy! Very happy with the look, feel and sound of these tires.
The fitment is perfect IMO. I have since raised the rear by installing the EMD rear spring spacer that I initially left out when installing the lowering springs. It now sits about 1/2" higher than in the video and photos below... will get some updated pictures of that soon. It didn't really rub, but I wanted the extra clearance for when I have a full tank of gas and 5 passengers.
Let me know what you think!

After lots of research and debating, I got some 20" wheels! I was torn on everything between 18", 19" and 20". Part of me wanted an 18" setup for the track and to get traction on the street, but this is my daily. So I opted for some 20's because I think they fill out the wheel wells better than 19's.
I reached out to Variant Wheels after watching a fellow YouTuber install a set of their wheels. They hooked me up and gave me a discount code to share with you guys if you're interested in purchasing a set of wheels from them (see below)! They have a few off-the-shelf options and allow as much customization as you'd like when it comes to size, offset and color and design.
I chose their machine silver "Argon" wheel in 20x10" and 20x11" I let them choose the offset, but it seems like they recommend ET20 in the front and ET35 in the rear for a flush F8X fitment.

Illinois plate? If so, I saw the same car the other day.

I use Adobe Premiere. But it's not free and it takes a little getting used to. But pretty easy to drop clips in, trim them, add music, etc.

Here's your dumb fuck move of the day(well, 5 months ago now). After pulling the JOMs off the Calypso car in preparation to swap them onto the red car, I broke the oil pan. In my haste I jacked the car up by the oil pan instead of the subframe. I know, stupid, I just completely over looked this and put the jack on at nearest flat spot I found to put the jack on when it went under the car.
Oof, I remember telling you that probably cracked it. You were still under the impression that it sprung a random geyser leak. Glad to hear you're getting it fixed though!

Thanks everyone!
19 hours ago, B C said:Im shocked that there is so much wheel gap on a modern sports car. I never really noticed!
I know! You don't really notice it until you focus on the fender/wheel gap in the front. The bumper still sits low, which might give it an illusion.
15 hours ago, patsbimmer1 said:Looks good! Did you do spacers to?
Thanks! No spacers yet, but I'm thinking ~15mm all around.
7 hours ago, jc43089 said:Much better! So in the front I see that the struts are mounted like an e39 where you loosen the pinch bolt and then slide the strut up. On this is there enough clearance to flop it out of the wheel well without loosening other stuff? The e39 you have to disassemble more stuff to be able to tip it out of the wheel well and actually slide the strut out.
I think all BMWs use that pinch bolt which clamps the strut in. But yes, you're able to just swing it out without disconnecting anything but the sway bar end link. The top of the strut is very close to hitting the fender, but you can compress it with your hands. Makes it so much easier than removing the whole strut!
3 hours ago, SteelBlue said:Could use some Alzor wheels.
Looks good though. Wheres all the other goodies?
LOL @ the Alzor wheels. Unfortunately 19's and 20's are fricken expensive, and I have expensive taste, so wheels won't be cheap. Would love a set of HRE's...
Other goodies are still in the garage, waiting to find time to install/film everything.

I think RTD is the same one that @suspenceful has? Maybe a different model, but the feel of his is like a bolt action shifter, feel was awesome.
Yup, I have an RTD in the 135i and his looks almost identical. Great shifters, can't mistake which gear you're putting it, that's for sure!

The M3 got it's first modification! I couldn't stand the wheel gap these cars have from the factory, especially in the front. So I combed through forums and Facebook groups to find what my best option was for lowering the car.
My goal: eliminate wheel gap and retain comfortable ride quality without spending thousands of dollars.
I narrowed it down to Emmanuele Design lowering springs. I could go on and on about why I bought these lowering springs instead of others, or even coilovers. But I don't want to clutter up my build thread, so I wrote a dedicated blog post about them. The Best Lowering Springs for BMW F8X: EMD Auto Review.
Brief summary:
- Ride quality remains the same or better than stock.
- Compatible with both standard and adaptive suspension.
- Engineered specifically for stock shocks to avoid premature failure.
- Perfect stance, lowering the front 1.3″ and the rear 0.3 – 0.9″.
- Linear spring rate, similar to stock springs.
- Made in the USA.
- Affordable at $300-350!
I got around to installing them a few days ago. The process was way easier than I thought... so easy that most of you could do it at home! I took photos and video of the whole process and created a comprehensive installation guide. The guide is too long to post here, but I shared it on my F80 blog. If you want to lower your F8X and save money by doing this job yourself, check it out: How To Install Lowering Springs in Your BMW F80 M3 or F82 M4.
Wrapped it up with a proper 4-wheel alignment.
Let me know what you think 😎

Congrats on the purchase and the subscriber count! 14 cars already ehh? It’s been fun watching you turn up the notch each time since your E36.
Thanks! I can't believe that $1,000 rusted out E36 sparked this crazy addiction. I loved that car.

P.S. we know you sold off your collection of 1:24 RC E92s to buy this
I'm torn on the color. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I think it's too "grandpa grey". But I hope it treats me well too 🤞
I still have all of the RC E92s if anyone wants one...
15 hours ago, patsbimmer1 said:Good for you. I really like the looks of the F80. I agree with above, spacers and springs will really set this car off for now. I'm jealous of your stock seats! I feel the f8x got the first M seats that actually compete with the Audi S/RS cars.
Do you plan on addressing the crank hub before you throw power at it?
I really like the Competition package seats, so I'll always wish I had those instead, but the standard M3 seats are nice. I really like the top half of the seat, but butt cushion is fairly plain with no thigh adjustability.
I will probably address the crank hub at some point, but don't plan on making it a requirement before modding/tuning it. I think it's overblown as far as how often it happens.

Beautiful car. Congratulations!
Thank you sir!
7 minutes ago, SteelBlue said:I personally like the stock wheels when the car is lowered and they are spaced out a little.
Auto rev matching feature is neat. Trans/shifter/pedal still have good feel despite from what I've read. Same goes for the steering.
Agreed, lowering springs are going on next weekend! The front gap is horrendous on these cars. I'll probably do 15mm spacers all the way around as well.
I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking the whole feel of the car is better than people make it out to be. I'm actually really impressed with the handling and power delivery of the car now that I've driven it for over a month. It does need some stickier rear tires though.
I never told you this, but when you drove the car the day I brought it over, you drove it harder than I ever did that has since changed...

Looks good! I just started posting car content on my car instagram. Feel free to shoot me a follow. @Rekpoint
But glad you went with the 6 speed. Although the ZF 8 speed is pretty damn good.
I'll take a look!
And I had to have 3 pedals. I drove the DCT trans and it's great, but there is just something about a true manual to me.
PS: The ZF 8 speed wasn't offered in the F8X chassis. You had to get either the M dual clutch transmission (more common) or the 6-speed manual (less common).

After lusting over the F80 M3 and F82 M4 for years, I finally found myself in the position to purchase one. I didn’t want to settle on just any F8X, I needed the perfect one.
Since I already have a BMW 135i for the track and a BMW 335i for daily duties, I wanted a modern weekend warrior. I found myself leaning towards the M3 because of its wide rear hips and the practicality of a 4-door sedan.
After searching nationwide for about a month with no luck, an M3 that matched my criteria popped up in Madison! Meet my 14th BMW, but my first ///M...

It's stock right now but I have a boatload of modifications on the way. I'll be working with Kies Motorsports and a few other companies for this M3 build. My vision is a functional, good-looking weekend car. But knowing me, I'll probably blow right past that
Some of you might already watch my BMW YouTube videos (just hit 26K subscribers!), but I'll be documenting this build on my channel as well. I'll also be posting exclusive high quality photos on my Instagram. I'd encourage anyone who is interested to subscribe/follow on those platforms as well. I threw the stock wheels back on and took the car to its first autocross at Road America! This was essentially my first autocross as well, my only other time being a few laps 5 years ago. Was nice talking to @KaiserRolls and seeing him make me look like a n00b on the track.
That being said, I'd love some feedback/tips/advice on my driving. I'm going to another autocross with it this weekend and would love to improve!
I placed #74 out of 147 cars. My best time was 58.925s. First place had 53.322s and average time for everyone was 59.751s: http://fvscc.com/results/2020_Summer/Event1_raw.htm
I have tons of parts ready to install on the M3 so be sure to subscribe if you enjoy YouTube content: https://www.youtube.com/jakespence135
