Pull the cluster and tighten the nut on the back of the temp gauge. Not a real gauge like you want but it will improve the reading in the meantime.
Your carnage got me thinking of adding to my spares. Ive been talking to a r3v seller parting a set of axles from his car. Waiting for pics but what I know so far is that they are 200k originals with torn boots on the passenger and worn but not torn on the drivers. Splines supposedly in good shape. We'll see.
Best route from assorted forum chatter seems to be either rebuild the factory axles if the boots are shot (cheap but time and a mess of a job) or pick up GKN Loebro axles (substitute money for time in the high $200s per axle), and avoid the cheaper cardone reman and esp the dirt cheap AZ AAP axles. Anyone have any experience here?

Saw that 318is as well and was wondering if it was anyone on here. Looks to be in good shape especially the interior and a good price for 138k in mileage. Aside from brakes wonder what other mechanicals are at issue (timing chain, guides, etc). KaiserRolls, if you don't care for red don't worry it'll fade.... oh wait

John Morgan's s52 swapped ti would be, and probably is, a track beast....I seriously considered that one for a bit after taking it for a drive at the e30 picnic. Managed to resist the temptation. Sorry John!
This guy's m50 swap is a junior version. Would possibly get you into less trouble on the street, though. That said, in addition to the one track video in the FS listing (where he's running Gingerman in what looks the reverse direction...must have been a fascinating track day), there's a video floating around I found of the seller hooning about in an industrial parking lot.

Borrow Snap's van, remove the rear van seats, get some 4' 2x8s for ramps, push the car into the van = done, plus you've more than 1/2 way towards a chump car team. [emoji41]

Cool air = fun. Happy engines with more power.
If you're an autox addict, tires are the wild card though. Depending on compound and how they handle or need heat in autox conditions you can have bricks with less stick or on the plus side tires that get less greasy in back to back runs.
For non addicts (you have no idea what tire blankets are, you think a plant sprayer is for plants, etc) it's all grins. Enjoy!

Tough call. The car did look good but probably not worth redoing everything to make it pretty if it's going to be a just a track car and you're going to keep pushing the envelope. Put $$ into go fast, cornering and stopping.
Just an FYI for folks doing DE / track day events (non-timed) with a car they're not willing to ball up and walk away from. Stuff does happen, rare in a well run event but it does. Lockton sells track day insurance. Adds $100-200+ to your cost for an event budget depending on the track and the value you place on the car and there are also deductible options 10-20%. But if you've got some serious money wrapped up in your ride it's something to consider.

Good to hear! If you're going four wheels off, tire walls are a much better end point than concrete or trees.
As you start working on repairs be sure to take your seat out and remove the seat mounts (don't remember if you've got side or bottom) and check the seat and mounts for cracks, bends, other damage. Speaking from experience with post-crash damage this can be hard to see with the seat still in the car.
Also be sure to replace your harnesses with new ones so you can be sure they can do the job next time.
Can't have enough safety gear. You wearing a HANS or other h&n device? If not get one. Should be mandatory in any car with fixed back race seats and a roll bar or cage.
In the bad stuff happens and walking away from it category this is from a recent Trans Am race at Mid Ohio but stupid track reentry happens in DE events. Why a H&N matters:

Yeow! Lucky it just climbed the tire wall and didn't barrel roll. Wet grass is slick like glass, once you're 4 wheels off at speed things can get ugly fast.

I ran the kart track in an autox event when Badger Bimmers hosted the BMCCA national Ofest at Road America several years back. Elevation changes add a different dimension than the parking lot autox. Must be a blast to run/race the track in a kart!

There you go. Plus you could buy many m20 engines (between 10 to 20, or a Metric Mechanic Baby SixM20 beast and a stock m20 or two) to have as swap in spares for the price of one S14 in good shape and/or the S14 major repair bills.

The more prepped the car eventually you reach the point of towing. Not only a comfort issue but the clown car packing routine of all your gear for the track gets old. Plus the potential flat-bedding the car home in case of on track drama. New truck would be really nice to have but $41k is absolutely nuts!
Between the motor mounts and bolts issues, the engine riding on the subframe would have been the least of your worries. Glad you caught it before bad things happened.
