  1. I still have the set of four bottlecaps I bought from m42b32 when he was cleaning out the old old garage. The same old snow tires are on them some with plenty of tread and all hold air. I used them one season for winter storage but now just sitting in the garage. I paid $40, take them all for the same.

  2. Hey guys,

I replaced my e30 Girling front calipers on the race car with some Centric remanufactured ones last week due to a slightly sticking passenger caliper that was not retracting and dragging the pads, likely due to a disintegrated boot. Before I return the old ones for the core refund I thought I'd take a look to see if I could/might rebuild them just to have on hand as spares.

These were what came on the car in 2007 and have never been rebuilt, yeah my bad. The insides look better than I thought they would. Inner seals were fine. I was wondering about the pitting in the cylinders which I can see and feel, and the scratches on the pistons (see pictures). I already have the rebuild seal kits in my parts box so wondering if these are "worth" rebuilding?  $$ wise the answer is no due to what I'd get back in the core charge refund minus shipping costs. I guess I'm wondering more about if these are rebuild candidates?

    Thanks,

    Rich

  3. Clearing out some old race gear:

    1) SOLD:  Used RACEQUIP 6pt HANS camlock race harness. Pull-up 3'' lap belts, 2" shoulder belts for use with HANS (head and neck restraint), 2" crotch straps, snap-in connectors for lap and crotch straps, four mounting bolts included (shoulder harness belts wrap around the harness bar on roll bar or roll cage). Everything works and never in any wrecks. FIA tags expired in 12/2020 so no longer valid for racing, but still valid for Track Days/Driving Schools depending on your organization's rules. $60 obo

    2) Used SCHROTH Left/Right Side Net with expired SFI tags (date of manufacture May 2013). Older design with ratchet tension adjuster. I replaced the original pull tab ring which was a weakness in this design with a heavy duty key key. Net is in good shape and everything works. $50 obo

3)Two RACEQUIP Ribbon window nets with expired SFI tags. One manufactured September 2012, the other July 2017. $5.00 each

  4. Clean car though a 325i would have been a better choice to sink the $8k into. This one is still an eta.

The BaT records for the stock 325e have been in the $8-17k range. The two highest grossing have been a 1986 5sp 325e with 55k sold for $12,250 in April  2019, and a 1988 5sp with 62k just sold for $17k a week ago.

That said e30s are getting harder to find, the sellers looks cleaner and is lower mileage, gas prices are going up, and some folks dig etas. Wonder if would crack $20k on BaT?

  5. Another vote for hanging on to the forum. The mix of threads on car projects, other projects, and other things of interest works. Tech and diy information from folks who get their hands dirty, aspirational / inspirational projects,  and local classifieds from folks you can trust are things to be valued.

Covid hasn’t been mentioned but this has had a disruptive effect on gatherings and narrowed a lot of focus to home, increasing work demands if you’ve kept it, and all the needs and importance of family  with school disruptions if you’ve got kids. Even though events still happened last year there was a Covid effect.

Hopefully this is a better year. TJ has the e30 picnic in the works for early June, planning for DE and other assorted track events are underway (shameless plug: Midwestern Council has a track weekend with DE and a race comp school on Saturday, and sprint races on Sunday at BFR later next month, April 24-25). Spreading the word through the forum about local events will be a help.

Think about ways that Badger Bimmers can help spread the word about what WIBimmers is about and up to.  The Immer is always looking for stories and seeing the length of some threads I know you guys can write. This might generate some more traffic to the forum. Let me know, I just started a stint on the board.

  6. Wow flashback. 😁

    Nice e21 pics!

Guess I forgot to update, the 225 Hoosier R7s worked out well. 12mm spacers on the front to clear the strut tubes, 3mm in the rear to avoid rubbing on the inner wells (though still getting some on drivers side but that’s due to a trailing arm adjuster issue), serious fender rolling all the way around, and some pulling on the passenger side. Ended up not needing the flares.

Grip on the R7s is impressive, I was able to carry some more speed through corners last season and still wasn’t near what the tires can handle. Need to relearn where the limits are.   I’ll also be upping the spring rates this year to 650/900. I had stayed with the 525/700 setup and ended up riding the front bumpstops in a few corners.

  7. R3v search says yes the front sport seats are the same in the coupe, m3 and vert, and in sedans the sport seats are also the same but don’t fold forward (but can be modified so they do).

The seat difference between the vert and other models is with the rear seats—still work but the seat back is slightly different
