You see it as different priorities (so you can make me look bad and stand on your tower and look down at me)

i'm no better than you, we are just different, like I said. we both have a view on this issue that looks to help others, just in different ways. i'd rather more people be alive and struggling with life, than some people dead so that the rest of people can live their normal lives. (normal being defined as: how life was before this started)

and my view is not narrow minded, i understand the possible consequences of the opinion i've chosen to support.

Rich, so sorry to hear your news. It sucks this is hitting close to home for some of us.

  2. that OMD is a nice little package. i try not to be concerned with bokeh quality. i leave that for the pixel peepers (far too concerned with the pixel level quality of an image to see the overall quality of an image) and professionals (need to print HUGE images). Shallow DOF, on the other hand, is worth sacrificing a little money and/or size to have as a tool in your bag.

I don't care, it is a feeble gesture to show how serious I am.  And, yes, if it takes out my family and everyone I love, so be it.

    i'm astounded. just, wow.

If the world or this country devolves into something a kin to a third world hellhole, than yes, that is worse than death.

me and you have some different priorities in life. you care more about money and cars than the well being of your family.  😔

You can't use 40 million as a legit number ZERO predictions came true, so using 40 million is unfair.
For some reason if we start adding up all the numbers of real shit happening, people dying from no care due to shut down hospitals, or suicide, or abuse, or starvation, or anything else, we can't use those numbers.
Let the second wave come.  If I could kneel before the guillotine and sacrifice myself to make the country move forward, I would.  This isn't about me, or you, or any 1 person, it's about our country and the world moving forward.  If it took 40M people for that to happen, then so be it.  I would take that gamble.  I KNOW FOR A FACT that number is made up and a scare tactic.  It's the same fake number technique used by North Korea in their propaganda.  Nobody wants to make the hard choices, so if they make the numbers horrible enough, we'll all fall in line.

    I call utter bullshit.

40 million was their worst prediction, you said 'their worst prediction'. how is it unfair to use that? we arent on our way to 40 million people dead because we have reacted with strategies like stay at home. that was the point!

read some history. the flu pandemic of 1918 killed 20-50 million people. they aren't pulling numbers out of their ass, they are learning from past experiences, science and reasoning. there are people out there that have spent their entire lives studying about disease, pandemics, and how it all works. why do you think you know more than them? i sure dont, and that's why I listen to them.

i agree, many people are dying because of the choice to stay at home and shut down. they've made the decision to shut down because they believe that is the better evil, compared to how many the virus could kill . if this is greatly affecting your life, or ruining your business, or whatever, you have every right to be upset and try to help the situation. but coming here and saying your willing to sacrifice yourself to move the country forward? let 40 million people die? how does that help? all that just for the sake of normalcy? youre talking like you'd be some sort of martyr. well, in your martyrdom you'd likely infect your family and hurt them too. your willing to do that?

please help my understand what you believe is worse than death.

you say nobody wants to make the hard choices. but when presented with the hard choice of staying at home, you come here ranting saying you don't want to. you contradict yourself.

you say 'you know for a fact' they made the number up.  whats your proof? you have the documents of conversations between white house officials that prove they are colluding to keep us at home and ruin our economy? you have been in a pandemic before so you know how it goes? please share how you know for a fact.

to argue your side of an argument, you need to base it on something other than 'I just know' or 'there's a conspiracy'.

  5. theyve been selling it for years. if there were some great amount of failures, shoudnt we have heard about it by now? i think they use some aluminum fittings for the brake stuff, even. cant muck about with brakes with inferior stuffs and not have a lawsuit.

I’m kind of hoping this situation helps shed some positive light on working from home. I understand there are a lot of roles that cannot WFH, but for those who can and are just as productive - why not?

there are some positives, for sure. the reduction of traffic congestion is top for me. for many people, it can give 1 to 2 hours of your life back to do something else, everyday.

I think we need to let the shitstorm happen.  The numbers say that there won't be a shitstorm, only that there could be one.  And if there is, so be it.  You CAN'T shut down the entire economy.  food chains are broken, bad shit is happening far worse than even the worst predictions of the virus.

Turn the economy back on, let people go back to normal.  I'm stand by that position.

you say worse things are happening than the worse predictions of the virus. they predict that the virus could kill 40 million people without measures like stay at home. please tell me what you think is worse than 40 million dead people, i'm very curious.

  8. yeah, i saw and heard of many 'parties' this weekend. people say 'social distancing family gathering' but they have no masks, they are sharing food, passing drinks around, etc.  i understand the desire, but i don't get why you'd risk getting your family sick.

I appreciate the amount of effort you put into your posts for us bozos on here.

I need to do the shadow line trim on my car. Debating having one of buddies who owns a wrapping business do them just so I'm not committed to one color or the other.

What lens/body were you using on the last shot?

Wrapping is a great idea! In the old days before vinyl warp, electrical tape was the go to for those wary of painting.

Camera is a d7200 with an f1.8 35mm lens.  I set it to f1.8 for that shot

  10. went fishing yesterday. worked on the car today. life is good.

time to tackle my window trim. problems: 1. two pieces of trim are trying to jettison from the car. 2. chrome window trim is so 70s.

the upper trim where it comes down to the front fenders likes to fly off of e30s at highway speeds. luckily, last year it decided to come loose when I had the roof rack on, so it couldnt fly away. i had it temporarily taped in place:

    od24XmYh.jpg

with the tape removed, you can see how the trim was failing. those little rust spots are where the clips are supposed to be holding the trim to body seam.

    of2Tupfh.jpg

here is a set of new clips. you need (4) for one side of the car. I ordered (5) for good measure.

    2wrcTaih.jpg

old clip (rusty and the little sharp tangs are worn down) vs new.

    at8txpEh.jpg

to fix, simply slide or pull out the old clips and push the new ones in with a screwdriver. if you cant get the old ones out, just leave them and install the new clips next to them. its not worth bending your trim to try and get them out.

    OQq4OLKh.jpg

    and done.

    OUmzoYXh.jpg

the next trim piece that was falling off was the driver's side rear 'wing'.  you can see it here sticking out from the body.

    9zLYQDXh.jpg

to remove, just carefully pry it straight away from the car. be sure to slide the little clip out of the way at the top where it meets the upper trim.

    aoZP3Qsh.jpg

under, you'll find four holes/grommets. if you remove the trim, you'll likely have to replace all four, so have them on hand. there are (3) 51131870459 and (1) 51141902279 which is actually the same grommet used for the hood emblems. new grommets pushed in place:

    trim reinstalled

    GqWG0mTh.jpg

    all lined up again.
    ASPwYOih.jpg

at the same time, I 'shadowlined' the chrome window trim. most e30s came with some amount of chrome trim. early cars, all the trim was chrome. later cars had a mix. m3s, 318is, and other special cars (Mtech) had full black trim. it may have also been an option? not sure. my car is a late car with a mix (chrome upper/lower trim, black window trim, black front and rear windshield lockstrips)

    6ROepeVh.jpg

the car has the rear pop-up windows, so you have to remove them to properly paint the trim that is under the seals. removal is easy - one phillips screw at the pop-out latch, and two 8mm nuts behind the clothes hanger hook and seat belt on the B-pillar. no interior trim has to be removed.

i saved all my packing paper from FCPeuro orders (they overdo the paper) to use as masking paper

    starting the masking job

    jKOz5Y8h.jpg

masking all complete. note: unplug your battery because you'll need to leave your doors open for extended periods of time.

sand all the trim with light grit (220) to prep the shiny chrome surface to receive the primer.

    xBi9ij5h.jpg

i usually use SEM trim paint for this job, but i'm sick of tracking it down so I went with store-bought rustoleum trim paint. in the end, I was happy with the finish. it is slightly more glossy than SEM, but matches the factory trim finish well. my only gripe is the nozzle is a wide spray pattern, which is super wasteful on thin trim. i sprayed most of the trim with the can twisted to get more coverage.

    Vwj0QbZh.jpg

did two coats of self etching primer

    FIrFQR0h.jpg

patiently wait at least 12 hours to pull your masking tape (hardest part of the job)

    and boom, done.
    GlkQMmXh.jpg

i am just about wrapped up for the 'winter' projects. I took the car out, washed it, and drove it.  much smiles.

    YJrhaU2h.jpg

    more to do:

replace pulley idlers (squeek squeek squeek)

    replace coolant level sensor

adjust rear coil heights (after pulling the car out and looking from a distance I can see its not even from side to side)

    alignment
