It’s not framed yet. I’ll be doing that and will be framing 24” OC. And it will have 9’ ceilings.

6’ panels would give me fewer joints overall. I only have a 4x8 trailer, but I went on Menards and it was only $84 to deliver the drywall. Worth it IMO over taking the time to load and unload 20 some sheets.

But your idea of scoring it and folding it in half to get it down is worth a try as well.

They’ve since dry walled the stairway, but that’s the basement. New utility room and we had them rough in a full bath too.

wow, would have never expected 9' basement walls. in that case, scoring is pointless and 6' panels would be perfect.

    Oh shit yeah. You smart.

FYI 6' panels wont save you any tape joints, unless your walls happen to be over 8' tall. youll still have one joint somewhere in the middle of every vertical section. if your framing is studs, you cant install them sideways either, as studs don't fall on 6' centers. you might save material cost, i guess. also do you have a trailer big enough for 12' panels?

i have idea that might work in theory but not practice: score an 8' in the middle, carefully fold it in half and carry it down. unfold, glue the seam from the backside and install. if the paper on the not-cut side survives, you could save yourself the joint.

painted most of the ceilings and walls

i'm done painting for a long time. we've only been in our house for 2 years and my wife is starting to ask about painting rooms AGAIN that we've already painted. my response now is "YOU can paint whatever you want!"

There's a lot to love here but my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE is that you ADDED WOOD PANELING!  I know so many women who's heads would absolutely spin if you added that wood paneling to a wall, my wife being one of them lol.  I'm a big fan of that "up nort" feel.

thanks! and yes, you are correct. on my death bed I will tell my grandson: find yourself a great woman like your grandma, who loves wood paneling.

she loves brick and stone and other fine wall finishes MORE, but our wallet does not.

I guess we have all been in our basements then.

I removed my bar along with a few walls. Here is a during and after shot. Mostly a play area for the kids.

kid me would have loved that basement. so much room for spreading lego out all over the place. nice work!

  6. my wrench always fit those flats on the sway bar arms. but i know that different brands have different thicknesses.

if you need a modified 22mm (7/8") wrench for the bolts on the upper control arms, let me know Ill ship mine to you.

like your modified tool, after modifying it for the e34 i've never used it again

  7. SOLD!

Posted this elsewhere on the internets, figured I'd post here as well.

    Rare e34 m5 shifter surround
    Black (schwarz)
    Original BMW part #51162237705
Has cutout for ACS console cars

These shift surrounds have been NLA for some time now, and are very hard to find. It is finished in the same black vinyl that your e34s console/dash is made of for a perfect match. It has the cut out for the ACS button console found in most non-m5 cars. The pocket dividers work amazingly to keep your phone/stuff from sliding around the shifter area.

I've attached photos of it mounted in my previous e34 touring.

Considering I cannot find a single one for sale on the internets, the price is both fair and totally made-up.

    $150

I've wondered if there is a magic combination of proper frame size and seat construction/positioning that can make things more comfortable?

I tried some of these adjustments. I even lost some weight, which i assumed would help, but I was still having the issue on long rides.  i could have probably got a different, less aggressive bike or a big ass comfy seat, but both would defeat the point of riding quickly for exercise.  after that amount of tinkering, reading about long term issues, and not really being 'in love' with biking, I threw in the towel and started running again for exercise LOL

  9. i got into biking for a hot second because my late wife was into biking.

i completely rebuilt/restored/modified three bikes, all of which I got for free. (old bikes people were giving away)

some old chinese steel frame knock-off thing for her to ride. (blue one)

a schwinn twinn that i inherited from my grandparents for us both to ride (yellow one)

a cheap mongoose hybrid steel frame from the 90s that i turned into a cyclocross style bike. (couldnt find a picture)

i stopped riding because of numb feet and threat of personal harm to man bits. i do really enjoy it though, and thought cyclocross might become a hobby.

  10. very much agree that the current administration is undermining democracy. its very disheartening.

i have no problems with the losing side using due process to check the election results. important things should be double checked. recount it, sure.

but now the courts (which had a representation of democratic and republican judges) and election officials have all confirmed the results in that process. you have to accept it.  the supreme court was stacked by the current administration and even they are confirming this is a baseless claim, with no facts to support it.

if you don't, you didn't learn how to lose in life, you're acting entitled and so you cry. possibly you don't have enough education to have learned critical thinking so you scream conspiracy. you might also be standing up for you side so you don't lose face which makes you gutless and a sheep (like many of the republican officials)

trump has jedi mind-tricked his followers to believe everything thing he says. i really wonder if there is a limit to that. if Trump tweeted tomorrow "I am the real Savior" I feel like his supporters might open some new churches or say Christianity is a hoax.

  11. alternate idea below.  all the light, all the privacy, no ugly curtains.

also a warning:  that door is just about the most insecure door you could have.  glass panes near the door handle are a target for thieves. someone can in that door in about 2 seconds. i installed sheet of lexan on the inside of a door like this in the past because it is nearly shatter/impact proof. the deadbolt is also in a very narrow piece of wood since the glass lite is right next to it. it could easily be kicked in without reinforcement.

So you will be down to just the V50 as far as car hobbying goes?

It's an interesting sentiment to read as I have the option of picking up another "fun" car in the spring if I want to. But I have a constant internal debate if I want to spend the time, energy, and dollars maintaining three cars of my own. I think it helps puts things into perspective hearing it from other car people that you don't need a car hoard to be a car enthusiast and there are more important things in life besides cars.

yeah, just the v50 for now. but the lady's vehicle is due for an upgrade soon, and i've helped sway her to something more enthusiast friendly, such as a wrangler, yota FJ, etc.

i certainly believe a hoard is not needed to enjoy cars, but i also would probably have a hoard if the resources were available.

Happy wife, happy life is a myth.  You've already figured it out.  Doing something for other that also brings you joy is far more rewarding.  I will most definitely sit and watch woodworking and cooking shows on PBS when I have the time.  Skilled woodworking is amazing to me!  The way they fly through building hidden joints and chiseling out perfect dovetail joints is just nuts.

yeah, those guys have so much patience. 'fly through' is a TV trick, that shit takes forever.  they are akin to car builders who polish every nut and bolt. yeah, its cool for your social media accounts, but is it really worth the time? i design my projects to avoid joinery LOL.
