BMWben
This is just a little fantasy of mine. I have a basically done for 1981 633csi sitting in my garage, the title situation is so messed up that I probably will never be able to drive it legally and it needs a ton of work. It has 175,000 miles on it, doesn't run, and I have no idea why it isn't running but I haven't really put in the time. On the other side I have a 95' 318is, its has a shit paint job and the interior is decent besides the headliner but the engine is in good shape besides an idling problem. There is really no reason for me to do this besides that I want a big 6 in my tiny ass car . What do you guys think?
wasnt m3
So, you want to put a non-running engine in a car that has a bad paint job?? Old engine in the newer car doesn't make much sense either. If you are willing to part out either car let me know. I need a good front clip for a project. Just needs to be a BMW and complete. Earl
You talking about an m30? It would be cool but wouldn't be the easiest thing.
straight6pwr
i havent heard you say one good reason why you should do it. because you can is not a good reason.
industrialsized
do it! it would be different and fun to drive. If it was me i would seriously be thinking about running carbs but i would make danm sure that the m30 wa running before i swaped it
Ryan...
Isn't the M30 one of the least fuel efficient motors BMW ever made? That being said, I might be interested in the old 6 series shell if its clean, you should shoot me a PM
straight6pwr
M30B33 194 hp210 ft/lbsweight: 315lbsmpg: 15-17an m50 is really the same power, lighter weight, and nearly 60% more efficient.

I think its not uncommon for owners to see them getting around 12-13mpg if they aren't really fresh. That's just pitiful for the power output.. straight6pwr
yeah bmw made them for so long i would say maybe if it were the late b35, but the b32 is not worth its weight if it aint running.
Brett_A
Even if you get it running, it would probably need a rebuild to get back to the stock 194 hp. It's a good chance that the mounts are different, so custom fab there. You'd probably have to use the old transmission too, so the driveshaft is likely a different length, and custom linkages needed to the shifter. A better option is to swap an m50 based I6 into your 318, such as the s52 I have for sale . Or, find another 91-95 3-series with good paint and interior but a bad motor and sell your car since it runs fine (not sure which works out better money-wise). rampelsauce
E36 318i would go good with a M70B50. Now thats a swap. But seriously, give me that shark nose. I saw it when I was picking up the E28 and the body is nice.
YoungCR
Yeah I dont want that body going to waste either! What you should be doing is finding out how to get that title? Has anyone on here actually retrieved a abandoned vehicle title?
rampelsauce
I have the forms for you brother. Let me know.

Blaine0002
I believe they are made of different materials as well... m30 would be better if you're looking to boost probably
Blaine0002
Also, with the title situation, how do you plan on getting rid of the shell? A scrap yard probably wouldnt even take it.on an old vehicle like that it would probably be much easier to recover the title with the engine still in the car
