I did a couple motorcycle seats years ago. It's not rocket science, but it takes time and patience.

I've been watching youtube videos and my Dad gave me an upholstery book that he had from a long time ago. Which ironically enough has an e30 rear bench seat in it as an example.

I thought if I can teach myself to paint a car, build an engine, weld, etc. etc. why not this? It won't be perfect, but I'd rather it not be perfect knowing I did it then it not being perfect paying someone else to do it.

If price isn't an issue, there is an older gentleman by the Airport that does great work. You would have to stop in vs. calling or emailing though. Message me if you want his info.

I guess I should add that he did the rear seat on my vert.

Thanks for the recommendation. I had two people that I started talking to about this project, very reputable places that I know do fantastic work, and then they ghosted me.

I went to my typical state of mind of "If no one will do it for me then I'll do it my fucking self". Soooo I'm going to learn upholstery.

thanks! was the most comfortable 13 hour driving day I've had, by a long shot. eats up the highway miles. the R-design seats are fantastic.

And I believe their exteriors have aged extremely well. I wish the tech had aged better. I don't know if prices on the R-Designs have normalized yet, but when I was looking the ones I was most interested in were the same price as the X5. And that was hard to justify.

Whelp, sold the Volvo bought a Volvo. Drove her back from D.C. this weekend - lets hope she's as reliable as the wagon!

Most of my drive was at night, but here's the dealer pic.

Its a big honkin thing, but will keep the fam safe.

Very cool! I was looking at those very seriously before the X5. Ultimately decided I didn't want another Volvo, but they are fantastic cars. My wife had a couple and it was always such a comfortable ride.

  5. The euroweaves replacements got here. 🤤

I took out the rear subframe. I don’t know if you guys remember how much trouble I had fitting the RevShit RTA bushings, but I swapped those out for Condor and I’m really annoyed I didn’t use Condor originally. Fitment was 10/10.

Also did the rear sway bar link reinforcements and rear sway bar mount reinforcements. Another great excuse to get the welder out. Not pretty but I’m happy with my twice a year welds.

And the X5 looking dapper as always.

I finally realized why I like this car so much and I can summarize like this: I don’t miss driving the e30 when I’m driving this.

  6. Hey guys. I'm mixing things up this winter and will be selling the Euroweaves. These are OEM 15x7 et24 Euroweaves that I bought a couple years ago. The tires were put on at the same time and have a lot of tread left (will include better pics of that).

But no cracks, curbing, etc. Some stubborn brake dust in the corners of the faces, but with some more scrubbing and a good cleaner, they should clean up really nice. I got a lot of it off - but was being bombarded by my kids at the same time since it was a sunny afternoon.

These are $2200 new (appear to be backordered) and the tires were $600. I couldn't find any other ones for sale right now to compare prices to, but I figure everything new would be close to $3k and $1,400 would be a fair deal for some bolt on wheels ready to go.

Here are some generic picture with the wheels.

I think the worst part for us was just getting a tool on that fill plug. We had quite the interesting contraption to get it lol

Ohhh yeah. I bought the special wrench tool for those after reading about how tight it is. Which made it an entirely non-issue.

Dang @Rekpoint came to visit me in Minneapolis this weekend too! It's a beautiful drive if you take highway 10 / highway 35 southeast and just cruise along the Mississippi River. We usually go from St. Paul down to Pepin and back, such a scenic route. Not sure if you took a similar route, but looks like it was a blast!

We took that for a bit! But most of the time was spent on backroads. It was about a 5 hour drive from Minneapolis to the pizza place north of Winona.

  9. Visited a friend in Minneapolis this past weekend and one of the days we drove the course of the 2020 OC Rally down to Suncrest Gardens pizza farm through western WI. All in about 1k miles over the weekend. I’ve done about 3500 miles on the car this summer with really no issues.

On the X5 I replaced spark plugs, coil packs, air filter, intake duct, and fuel vent tube. Running awesome. 🤌🏻

What have you guys been doing for proper fluid level? The BMW procedure is quite... intensive
Though at least you have a lift!

The TC and front diff both have fill plugs that are also for the fluid level and the transmission is the same way but you have to do the final fill when the transmission is between 40-50°c.

I plan on doing a full fluid refresh on my E90 as well. Seems to be doing fine with 102K, but just for a peace of mind thing. transfer case, differential, and transmission fluid with filter.

I've seen you going to town on the X5 groups regarding the hesitation/shake you are feeling on decel lol

Yeah, there just isn’t anything I can find on forums or groups about what I’m feeling. Low speed accel, turning, etc all seem to have others experiencing it, but coasting to a stop just doesn’t have much info. But people came out when I shared that info that they had that at one point too.

The whole thing is pretty new to me. It’s my newest car I’ve ever owned. All of my “newer” cars have been Volvos and they’re completely different than this.

I've got the same list to do on my F15! So annoying the diffs / transfer case only have fill plugs so you have to suck the old fluid out with a vacuum pump. My X5 has 145k on it with original fluids, so I'm especially nervous how the fluids will look (trans especially).

Not sure how I accidentally included a video of my youngest daughter. Haha.

Here was my transfer case fluid. Front diff fluid and transmission fluid didn’t look terrible, but they were pretty stinky.

Tue front diff has a drain plug. Not sure about the rear. And getting the fluid out of the TC with a pump was pretty easy. I got a longer and more flexible hose from the hardware store  for my little fluid pump and that made getting everything out of the TC easier.

  13. Getting familiar with this car. Transmission pan and fluid, transfer case fluid, front diff fluid, oil change, and eventually a tune up.

    BF8ED80E-6945-411D-BA0D-B880F3803FD6.jpeg

    Also new tires.

So far found a cross threaded oil drain plug and JB welded fuel tank vent tube on the intake duct.

Once the fluids are done I’ll order a new intake duct, valve cover vent hose, and fuel tank vent tube and then will do all the filters, spark plugs, and coils.

Does anyone have some feedback on higher mile F15/E70's? I have been looking around but wondering if there are any larger issues that these cars face down the road?

I know some of the general stuff like 3rd row cars with airbags, general N55 stuff, etc.

I am kind of in your same boat with looking at an E70, but also seeing some higher mileage F15's for similar costs. I like the E70, but the F15 takes a huge jump in the looks.

The Imperial Blue and the brown is a great combo.

I tried looking into this a lot given that my price range would be a higher mileage one. And I couldn’t really find any complaints of major issues other than the things you listed: n55 oil leaks, bags, and drivetrain servicing.

Having air bags was a huge concern for me, but it seems like they’re pretty reliable and if a bag leaks, they’re not that expensive and replacing them is a very quick job.

I have some slight shuddering/jerking as I coast to a stop. But I have everything coming to service the transmission, transfer case, and front diff. I’ve read of significant improvements in drivetrain feel after servicing everything. Also a new OBD tool that can reset adaptations.

Man that is a gorgeous interior, what is that option called? I'm picking up an F15 35d this weekend (sadly not M Sport), so pumped!

Thanks! Ironically my wife’s Atlas is also white on brown. Haha.

I’m not sure. These are the only options I see tied to the interior

    Leather Dakota / Mokka

    S4DDFine-Wood Trim Fineline Pur

    SLEDELeather Equipment

I was between this one and a 35d and I couldn’t find any reasons to get the diesel other than mileage. Everyone I asked their only reasons were MILEAGE AND TORQUE BABY! But this one had the m sport package and the diesel didn’t, so I went with this one. And I have zero regrets.

Great color combination. The F15 X5's are incredibly good looking.

Will be the most likely successor to the my E90 after it has served it's purpose for me. Or an E70.

They really are. This is my first SUV and I love how well it does everything.

  17. Finally picked up the new daily! After ruling out many of the other European SUVs, I kept coming back to the X5. After a lot of browsing I realized I wanted one with nicer wheels and either sport or comfort seats. The other features weren’t as important.

There were some in Chicagoland, but driving down there with my wife and then driving two cars back through there with her by herself isn’t something I wanted to do. Fortunately, I found a strong contender to the north of me in Neenah. We went up there Saturday morning, checked it out, and bought it.

2015 Xdrive35i with M-Sport package. The PO also has an e70 diesel with m sport, an M650, e46 M3, and a new X7. He was selling the X5’s to make room for his new M3 Comp. So it was coming from someone who knew the cars and I really liked that.

Anyways, I’ve only been driving it for two days, but it is so awesome. All three kids fit comfortably with three across forward facing car seats. The storage in the boot is great. The car in Sport mode is quicker than I thought it would be and the paddle shifters are reallly good.
