Who the heck puts this kind of money into a car before putting it in your name?

Nothing irrational about wanting a 7er. Fantastic cars. I had an e32 way back when. That thing hauled ass and you never even knew it, so smooth. Sold it due to the transmission being on its way to it's death bed. They are dirt cheap, but expensive to fix and most people don't maintain them very well. Most of them at one time or another were owned by a rapper wanna be or something of the sorts.
I'll own one again done the road.

Miss it every day,she was my pride and joy. My first legit "build" [emoji17]
My favorite bimmer I have owned by far,and I've owned many. It was damn quick for being a 5er.... many surprised faces

I'm a fan (maybe because I'm broke). I wasn't even looking for a car but this thing popped up in my fb feed one night. Couldn't pass it up. Happy to be back in the gamecheap builds are fun to follow too, looking forward to more!Although I'm not sure how "cheap" it is anymore

Well, figured I'll start one of these.
Purchased a 98' 328ic for a few hundred bucks. Bad trans, top inoperable.....but the body is cleeeeeeeean. Been out of the game for a few years after selling my s52 swapped e34 (which I regret every day).
Thought about LS swapping it for a second, then decided I just want to make it a nice dependable cruiser for the summer. It probably wont get much use as it is, seeing that I have two young kids with a third on the way. So, I want someone dependable.
Seller was nice enough to tow her right to my shop
Got the top down manually. Tried diagnosing a bit, but in the end couldnt figure out what the problem is. For what I paid for the car, I am not going to put more money than necessary. It will be primarily a nice weather car, so I dont really care about the top working. If I absolutely need to put it up, its easily done manually.
But, for those times she wants to wear a hat....I picked up a hardtop.
I sold my boat, which means more money for car parts (dont tell my wife). I gave her a bit of a facelift with an ill-fitting ebay m3 bumper and some DEPOS.
So, since the trans is shot...I have two options, replace with an automatic or manual swap. Obviously, I am going to take the easy route and replace it with another automatic.
Right....
Manual swap it is. I searched for a couple months trying to find a manual parts car. Finally found this turd
I have a pile of parts that are waiting to go on. I was waiting to find my manual swap parts so I could do everything at once. Plus, my lift is currently occupied by my brothers POS audi. I did my e34 swap all on jackstands, and it wasnt pleasant.
Yet to come:
Manual swap
AA track pipe
Cat back
Konis w/ H&R sports
Wheels
Maintenance
Drive it?

Yea I'm sure it will go for more than I was looking to spend.@stealthbimmerThere is already a 1000 dollar bid https://dashub.com/car-auction/1995-bmw-m3/lt7057293I found my turd with manual swap parts yesterday anyways. I would feel bad sending that M to the vultures.

It will likely go for more than I have to spend. I really just want the manual swap goodies.
Wondering how it ended up there with such minimal body damage
Doesnt take much for insurance companies to total 20+ year old cars. It does have a clean title though, so who knows what the circumstances are

Shhhh. In trying to scoop that.

Yea, I didnt even respond to him. I had to close the txt to prevent me saying something mean( my new years resolution was to be nicer, it's been hard a road)
His response to my first text (which was just asking for a ballpark price) was: "No idea. I know theyre worth the most of all e30s cuz theyre the rarest".
Which, yea maybe, but a wrecked car is still a wrecked car. You may get lucky and be able to rebuild it, but its pretty much a parts car as it sits. A front end is very hard to get back together where everything doesnt look wonky after a front end collision like that. My e34 wasn't nearly that bad and I still had to ghetto space some bolts to keep my front end from looking like it has downs. There is not 3k in parts on there. The drivetrain is really the only thing worth more on the ix, the tcase in particular. I will say, the extras for $500 is probably worth it. I know the tcases are becoming harder and harder to find in working order.
That being said, post is gone. Tempted to ask him why. Unless somebody had a bag of cash they needed to unload
-
So, I text'd the guy. I hate when people just say "make and offer".....and then they get all offended when I offer $20. Sorry, gotta start somewhere.
Just in case anyone is wondering...after going back and forth with the guy to get a ballpark price he wants 3k for the car, 3.5k with spare drivetrain (engine, manual trans, tcase, shafts, and rear dif)

Agreed. I am a pre facelift fan myself.

Without a doubt. Not saying its practical by any means. There are much better ways to spend that kind of coin with the same end result power wise.

The likely scenario is that he bought the car as a project, didnt transfer title because it wasnt going to be on the road while it was being "restored". He did whatever he had to do, and when he went to transfer the title is wasnt where he left it.
To buy a car without a title, and then put that kind of money into it (with the exception of a track car) would be a pretty big lapse in judgement. That being said, I've seen people do dumber things.
