  1. I'm keeping busy replacing a timing belt on my oldest van.  1MZ-FE Toyota.  It might be original at 215k... After the timing chain breakage I'm paranoid about it...

Edit, I'm pretty sure it is original.  My parents bought it at around 60k and I highly doubt they ever had it replaced.

i'd tend to believe they do have zero cases, because that sick f*ck is probably committing genocide on coronavirus diagnosed people, as pat's post suggests.

    I also wouldn't doubt that.

This is scary because it's probably true.  For those unaware North Korea claims no cases of COVID-19.  Right...

Right, Little Rocket Man also thinks he is a supreme world power.  Probably not a reliable source of information.  He also says his country isn't malnourished and dying...

  4. By publicized I just meant that most people get their information second hand instead of just reading the three pages directly from the source.  If everyone did that there would be a lot less misinformation floating around.

I realize there is no perfect solution.  Factories I've worked in don't allow for social distancing though, Hormel has rooms full of shoulder to shoulder people trimming meat for example.  Once a few people have it in a place like that the whole place will have it.  Other illnesses do the same thing in those places why would this be any different.

My point is that they should be making recommendations and best practices, a lot of companies were already sending people to work from home if at all possible.  I'm a government employee now, Technical college instructor, they have every right to close that because it is directly run by the government just like the public K-12 schools.

And if you choose to close your business temporarily that's good.  I think the mandatory closing of private business is over reaching.  I am sure later there will be lot's of court action to make black and white what is now a gray area because nothing like this has been tried before.

  5. I realize how they are doing it and small businesses have no way to resist.  Notice large companies and factories aren't shutting down, they have money to contest.

Great some assistance packages!  Oh wait where did that money come from in the first place?  It's just money we all gave them in the first place.

Since it isn't publicized here is the actual Official executive order https://evers.wi.gov/Documents/COVID19/UPDATEDOrder10People.pdf

It references Wis Statute 252.02(3) as allowing it to enforce the order.  https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/statutes/statutes/252/02

What that says is "(3)The department may close schools and forbid public gatherings in schools, churches, and other places to control outbreaks and epidemics."

Apparently "other places" is broad enough to fit just about everything.  Wouldn't large industrial plants be an issue where several hundred people are working together all day every day?  They can't target that because it would get contested and thrown out so fast.  Instead they will go after small businesses.  Massive abuse of power in my opinion.

Also apparently it is forgotten that the first amendment of the constitution says that the government shall make no law restricting religious gatherings so that makes the Wisconsin statute in conflict with the constitution.

    Rant over. :)

  6. So how is it allowable under the constitution to force private business closure?  Of course the government can decide to close public things like schools etc and make recommendations that gatherings be limited.  However they have no grounds to shut down private restaurants, bars etc.  This is getting out of hand.

Sale is pending friday.  But ill keep this updated if it falls through because that seems to be the theme.

I might be dumb but im pretty sure its an OBDII harness. Only obd 1 parts are the manifold and possibly the fuel rail?

Its weird. I went all winter with FB flakes hitting me up for it but then this week I get 3-4 people asking about it. Spring fever I guess.

Ok, let me know.  Does it come with the ECU and all sensors I assume?  Do you have any stock exhaust manifolds?  I have some OBD2 stock ones on the van swap but I would rather leave them on.

hopefully it is something benign like a relay. that's what happened to me - engine quit, would crank but not fire. twas the main relay!

i think i saw various e36 engines/transmissions for sale on craigslist.

Unfortunately it sounds like it has no compression at all.  Like the sound when all of the spark plugs are removed.  I wonder if something failed in the timing and my valves all look like this.

  9. Bad day, pulling away from a stop sign on the way to work this morning the engine just quit.  Cranking it the engine spins but it sounds like all of the spark plugs are out which does not seem promising.  I will pull the valve cover tonight to see what bit the dust.  :(  305,870 miles.

Anyone have an M50tu laying around?  Also a transmission?  My Getrag has gotten worse to the point that up or downshifts into second gear are usually not happening without nasty sounds if it will go in at all which really kills the fun of ripping through roundabouts in second gear wide open.

  10. Spartan locker installed in the LC rear axle.  I should have done that years ago.  Incredibly more grip, I have Treadwright Mud tires with "Kedge Grip" the walnut shells and glass in the rubber which help immensely on packed snow and ice.  It should be pretty unstoppable in the woods now.  My mother-in-law has a '17 4Runner TRD, I keep telling my father-in-law he needs to get rid of the highway tires and put some real tires on it.  The new tech in the 4Runner is pretty cool, dynamic sway bars, etc.  But it's also so nice that driving it through the woods would be psychologically painful, whereas I can't discern new scratches and dents from what was there before on my LC.

Im also contemplating if I should just find a cheap fuel cell instead of replacing the fuel tank.... Thoughts?

What's wrong with the fuel tank?  Maybe I missed it.  The stock tank seems like a good design, it's low and fits around the components of the car well.  Any fuel cell is going to be further back and higher up.  Also capacity might be an issue, it would be annoying to stop for fuel every 150 miles.  I would think tanks should be all over from junked cars, there isn't anything to go wrong on them unless it gets punctured.

  12. I got tired of getting stuck in my Land Cruiser with open differentials so I ordered a Spartan auto locker for the rear axle.  I probably should have gotten one a long time ago, it was only about 270$  I couldn't justify spending 800+ for an ARB or other selectable locker.  I'm pretty excited to see how much it helps.  Open differentials are worse with stiff/lift springs like I have because if it doesn't flex well then there are 2 tires with less grip and they will just spin.  With a locker and my Treadwright M/T tires it should dig pretty good through the woods and snow.
