Yeah, a lot of people have recommended their service to me so I thought I'd take advantage.
Also that car was at Schmidt's, they don't charge extra labor for moving stuff but they make you pre pay for the part you need pulled. They told me $100 for the driveshaft and $300 for the LSD, so I hopped right on that.

there were 5 wibimmers e30s on Saturday. That means we're batting over .500, which in baseball if freakin amazing. But baseball sucks, so, bad analogy. BUT STILL.
good job getting the car out there, Matt, and nice to finally meet you.

Look at you driving a running e30 on wibimmers.  That's a small club to be in!  Congrats!

Didn't have time to update until now!
The bushing swap finally happened, and we also ran brand new nickel brake lines while the subframe was dropped (we literally tried EVERY method, and ultimately ended up dropping the whole thing.)

Also got the interior back together Friday night for the picnic. Carpet still needs a little cleaning, but I did do some carpet cleaning a while ago and it cleaned up real nice.

The first test drive with everything back together ran great! We made it to Waukesha without a hitch.

Next on the list is fixing the minor lower coolant hose leak, speedo sensor in the diff, odo gears, obc clock swap (current obc screen is smashed), and looking into the bumper. I have a brand new bumper in green/teal, just gotta see how it mounts up and then i'll look into getting it painted.

Hey that old subframe bushing still kind of resembles a bushing. From hearing about the removal at the picnic I was expecting much more destruction. Wish mine would have come out with that much intact material to grab onto.
    Good to see the progress!

Yissssss. Very nice. I like that you made an chart to keep yourself organized. That is the key to the beginning of a successful project in my opinion.
One small detail I must point out though....

I'm throwing my hat into the Alpine arena.
It's a CALIFORNIA (!!!) 1990 Alpine 325i Sedan. Automatic, and the M20 has about 260k miles on it + a leaking head gasket. But these are perfect conditions for a M50 5-speed swap.
We picked up this guy around the end of December before Christmas, however with the fact that we have two E34's to attend to and the calypso e30, my project schedule was pushed back a bit
The driver's side of the valance is forked pretty badly, so I'll be swapping that with a brand new one. Other than that, this body is pristine. I don't have any solid pictures of the interior but it has gray cloth seats, which the driver's seat is a little tattered but nothing horrible.
    Let's get up to speed:
    Dec. 20th, 2016
We found the car on a farm outside of Verona sitting under snow, which we had come to learn had been sitting for quite some time since the guy had a lot of other project cars. But to our disbelief, there is zero rust on the car and it started up immediately after wiping off the snow. Somehow this car sat on Madison Craigslist for two weeks without anyone even coming to check it out?? I swear I thought it was a scam, it was quite literally a Christmas miracle.

Chris survived the drive back on probably the baldest and rotted set of spare tires I've ever seen.
Cleaned it up to get rid of all the salt, cause it'll never be seeing a winter again.

    Dec. 22nd, 2016
Since Ben was home from SC for the holidays, we pulled the M50 from a parts 95 E36 325i we had sourced a few weeks prior, which was put out of commission due to the hood flying up and smashing the windshield while driving. The motor was running a week before it was picked up, however it's believed the starter went out, which doesn't matter since I need a new one for the swap. Removing it was a breeze with four people and the core supports sawzalled off. that e36 is mega scrapped by now.

    Feb. 19th, 2017
The E30 twins currently sit together. I took this the day we got the Calypso M20 running.
Forgot to mention around this time I scored some side skirts from Dan, which you can see leaning on the wall next to the E28.

    Mar. 18th, 2017
The M20 pull has begun. Andy stopped by to drop off the set of 15'' Weds Bavaria 4x100 rims he no longer wanted. I think they look fresh as hell, and are a perfect fit for the Alpine.
I'll be looking into powder coating them in the future, but for now they're in perfectly acceptable condition to run. I found a thread on E9 Coupe that pointed out that 68mm BMW center caps fit these guys perfectly, so I ordered a set of them. Very excited to see how they look on the car.
I also picked up a pressure washer today. Hoping to get a good engine bay wash going once the motor is pulled.

Here's my WIP parts list so far if you're curious of my plans. I'd tell you that this is for you, but it's actually for me.

    Forgot to update.
Sunday we connected the steering column, and while attaching the driveshaft we impromptu decided to do shifter bushings while we were under there.

Still trying to figure out the fuel leak. Chris suspects its the fuel rail, which we have a spare so we'll swap it in next time and see what that does.

Other than that leak, just needs the interior put together before it's in a good state.
Considering I wasn't a licensed driver when this car was obtained, it should be nice being finally able to drive this thing for once while I work on the alpine swap. Funny that it all came together exactly a year after we dropped in the new motor

Bought this Clarion FZ-102E for one of the cars and I'm super happy with it. Matches the oem lighting perfect and buttons look great too. It's a basic European market head unit but that's all I wanted. Took about a week to ship from the U.K.

Work suddenly has me traveling a lot so progress is slow but not stopped thankfully. The front end parts are cleaned, sanded, and almost done being painted. I did some more work on the front end damage, got the remainder of the core support cut out and prepped everything for the new one. I will be starting on the damage to the bumper mounting this weekend

Well friends, the E30 is officially sold. The answers to the standard questions are as follows:
    1) Where did it go?  David Spears bought the car and will be tracking it all this season while Dan Frodl is working on his LS E46 build. I will likely be driving the car as well at some track events this year as the future of this E30 is to exist as a backup/spare track car for our group of friends who regularly do HPDE.
    2) Why did you sell it?  dastuz and I are planning some larger investments likely in commercial real estate, and I need to free up and save as much capital as I can over the next 3-6 months. Keeping the E30 means I'm also committed to buying a trailer, and then making it worth my while to have the car by doing a lot of track events and that + consumables + insurance adds up quick. Doing the math, I'm saving myself $10-12k in 2017 including the price of a trailer, plus the cash I get back from selling the E30 (about $9k)
    3) Are you going to track the M3?  Yes I will be tracking the M3 at Road America, and likely paying for consumables/track time/insurance on the E30 for 1 or 2 events at Blackhawk Farms
    4) What about your truck?  Tax writeoffs are important when you're just rich enough to be poor like me. The truck stays for now
    5) Will you buy another track car?  It will be at least 2-3 years I would say before I buy myself another dedicated track car.  dastuz and I own several rental properties together that we bought back between '08 and '11, but since late 2011, the only real move we've made is buying our own houses to live in which is really not an investment. Tracking is an expensive hobby and considering I have the E92 to play with, I think the track car/trailer money can be better spent elsewhere for the time being.
    6) Will you be living the E30 life vicariously through Mitch and Ben?  It would be hard not to.

Having moved to a new shop in July, This car hasn't had any attention between our schedules but we gave things another go yesterday and the car has started! Comparing notes between e30's it's seems to have been a combination of wiring issues and the fuel pressure regulator being bad. Don't really have a clear answer but the fpr was leaking this time after we re-wired the motor as we had planned to pull it for a m50.
@MattY bought a sedan (build thread will start soon) so just need to tidy up stuff under the car like installing the driveshaft, exhaust, subframe bushings being the major things before this is road worthy.
*knocks on wood* this will be at the picnic, hopefully the sedan too.

I've fallen off the map here on WIBimmers so I figured this is a good way to get back into it.
I picked this car up this summer west of Dallas, Texas. The green 540 was riddled with rust beyond repair and had to go. I picked up this car with 128,000 miles and drove her back home. It was kinda a barn find, two guys who own a BMW shop got it from someone and proceeded to do no maintenance on it.
I decided to try and do this car some good right off the bat. I dropped the money on an 18-piece Lamforder control arm kit, engine mounts, and polyurethane subframe bushings. Doing the work on this car was an experience I've never had before. I would pay you if you found rust on this car. I was rubbing the dirty off the brake lines to find unoxidized metal (see picture below).
Some other things I got done were getting my 2-piece, 18in style 5s redone. They were sandblasted down and are now powder coated, the barrels are imitation chrome, the faces are gray, and the bolts are zinc coated. I also let Marc screw around with the exhaust and this video resulted... https://youtu.be/16bq2TZDAZE

I have some maintenance I want to get done but I am still a college student so it's getting done slowly. I will be commissioning into the navy in May so I should have the money to get some more done. I am thinking about buying another car so I can be dedicated to working on this car but it's very hard to justify having two cars being a 22-year-old in the navy. I also need to find a friend to be able to do my own work down here.
Some upgrades I would like to have done very soon are:
New exhaust fabbed up, goal is to sound like this https://youtu.be/gT3G2O6pViA Coilovers, still shopping around M60B44 Frankenstein build (M62 block with M60 head) General restoration
