Winter mode engaged
I forgot to note I replaced the battery with a new one a few months ago. I used the Bimmergeeks pro-tool for the coding and it was extremely easy, worth the cost to not have to figure out INPA/etc. I also coded out the legal disclaimer on startup, so nice having that gone.

It been below freezing and snowed once already here so I guess it's time to fold the mirrors until spring.
I had a pretty much trouble free year with the only problems that popped up being the battery going dead fairly quickly and a fuel leak at the fuel pressure regulator a few weeks ago. The leak stopped by just tightening the fitting, but I'll probably take it apart to re-seal properly before next season. I also swapped out the primered front lip for a cheap black one from ebay (you're welcome @straight6pwr). I'll admit it looks a heck of a lot better, though someday if/when I paint the car I will color match the primed one.

Took me a minute haha, looks really good. If I didn't put the roof rack on mine occasionally I'd really think about it.

Huge transformation taking place over here.
wow.
I'll be hitting up a couple pals this coming weekend to possibly do some more sick mods. Also, Speed-Buster pedal commander thingy coming in the mail, and finally pulled the trigger on a valentine one gen 2. Also took a look at my winters and need to replace two that are fried from the wonky shitbox M3. Nothing too exciting, but stuff is happening.
Roof rail delete?

Congrats on the sale Dan! Sad to see it go. Is it staying local?

I think your interior is going to look fantastic with black carpet, I'm impressed how well the seat dye held up too!

These look so good, but I also don't want to give up the 'collector special' plates. Decisions decisions...

I used Turo to rent a Jeep Wrangler on the second half of my recent trip to Hawaii because rental cars were extremely hard to get and ridiculously expensive while we were booking things. I had never used it before, but we made sure to book with a host that had a bunch of excellent reviews because I'm sure all it takes is a crappy host to ruin the whole thing. We paid the cleaning fee upfront and an extra fee to have it parked in the airport parking when we arrived vs. their standard pickup location. Overall I'd say it was a good experience though it was definitely a little bit more effort than a standard rental. One of the 'downsides' was that I did feel like I had to be a lot more responsible with this car because it was someone's personal car, vs. a random rental through a major company. I'd say I would do it again, but only if I really wanted to rent something cool/specific or if it's really the only option.

Huge thanks to @i_love_carsfor hosting! The weather, driving route, and food were all fantastic. I completely forgot to take pictures, sorry Glen.

E36's have gotten surprisingly expensive lately, e46's don't seem far behind either. I had a hard time coming across anything semi-local that wasn't complete garbage in the 2k-ish range.

Its definitely a sellers market for clean E30's right now. Are you planning to list locally or going the BaT/similar route?

Im in!

^ Another quick thing to check out if you haven't already.
I'd imagine any high resistance connections between the battery and distribution block could cause similar issues as well, as you wouldn't be getting the full battery voltage anywhere beyond that point.

Need some help here. The temp gauge started jumping around, lost power, and the car died. Started up and got it to a safe spot just as it died again. Tried starting it and nothing. Just clicking of the starter. Waited for a bit and then it started up, ran fine for a second and then started idling rough and died. I’m afraid to try to drive it home. What’s stranger is that the aftermarket temp gauge is twitching too. It’s not just the temp gauge on the cluster. Please see the video. When I’m idling it’s not as bad but then once I give it gas it twitches more. If I try driving it I lose all power. Barely any response from the throttle.
The two temp gauges are completely separate from each other I should add they get their power directly from the battery lead in the engine bay on the firewall and it has its own temp sensor. So the flickering of the two temp gauges are related but one isn’t causing the other.
Possibly a grounding issue? I have a bad ground on my temp gauges at the moment and they bounce around quite a bit. I'd take a look at the engine ground strap. Not sure if that would cause it to die, but with the gauges bouncing around that is my first thought.

New ride height looks perfect!

I can make Madison work too, but the closer to Pewaukee the better. Heated and with electric would be a plus, but not necessary. Would rent year round and use for storage and wrenching.
Speaking from experience, the farter away from the city you can be the better. You'll find much bigger options for a lot less money if you can be out of the Milwaukee metro area. Small shop spaces like two car garages and such where wrenching is allowed are out there but it takes some searching. I found all three of my rental garages through craigslist, so that or marketplace is probably the best bet (if you can wade through all the crap on there).

Agreed, definitely a nifty little motor! N52s are virtually unkillable. They might piss oil like a geyser but man they are reliable. During my search I did come across one with the M Performance kit, but it was pre-LCI, auto and silver. Think I'll be happy with this spec though!
I wouldn't say unkillable, they're still a BMW after all lol! I'd say you made the right choice, LCI is the way to go in my opinion over pre and the black headliner on an Msport is a big bonus too

Love it! A manual n52 would be the perfect daily driver. Arguably the most reliable modern BMW.
