I think I remember that N54 thread. It's a bit hazy, though. I think JB4 is smoke and mirrors. Terry has never done anything for the N5x world. Ever. Definitely didn't pave the way for anything other than lies. Someday you'll see, guys. Someday.

seriously though, I'm looking forward to Cars & coffee starting up again this year. Our presence was only modest in 2014. One day I think 4 of us made it but nothing larger. All of my track days this year are near the end of any given month so I don't expect to have very many conflicts for scheduling C&C

There's a group called Wisconsin Bimmers up your way, and they run an annual ice 'event' ( really just a screw-around-on-ice day ). If they come calling and ask about running on any of your lakes, I recommend that you do everything you can to keep them away.
    http://www.wibimmers.com/
Last weekend, they ran on Sinissippi and dumped at least one engine-full of coolant on the lake. And they left it. And they tried to blame it on another car... one which didn't lose any, and used a different color anyway.
These are obviously not the kind of people you want anywhere near a lake you want to keep using ( winter or summer ). They won't be welcome on Sinissippi anymore ( I'll park my car at the bottom of the boat launch, if necessary ), so if they try again next year, they will probably be shopping for a new location.
    Heads up.

did anyone seriously lose a bunch of coolant on the lake or was that really someone else not part of our group?

a buddy of mine who does rally-x sent me a screenshot from another forum of a dude making a post about how awful WIBimmers are and blamed coolant leaks on sinissippi on another car, and how next year if we try to get on the lake again, he's going to park his car in front of the entrance if need be, to keep us out.

I kinda want to go talk shit because I'm totally that guy, and I kinda just want to tell him I can pay off the lake however much I want to get access if push came to shove and he can't stop me and I'll ram my $300, 1997 Chevy contractor van that I use for hauling shit to my properties into whatever pile of crap he parks in front of the lake access.

man i gotta figure out some shows to get to this year. So far I've been planning all my time and money around track events only.

Do we have anything that a large group from this forum will be attending? By large i mean like, at least 2-3 people, lol, it's relative.

by far my favorite 335 body style. Pat and I disagreed on this because I love the coupe and he doesn't. So I tried knocking sense into him with a 9 iron. Now he's too much of a vegetable to ever come around and see how awesome the 335 e92 coupe is.

31, married, 2 kids, 1 dog. Live in Hartland and hate my yuppie neighbors. Grew up in New Berlin, mom/stepdad still live there and their house is about 3 minutes from Snap, who is the main person that got me going on WIBimmers one day because i saw an e30 at an intersection and stomped on it in my 1er, only to find him posting about it later that day on the forums.

I work for Artisan Partners, an equity investment firm which is part of the evil financial services empire in this country that everyone hates. Been in software for 10 years, and technically have a job title of "Application Architect" within the software department at Artisan, which actually means 80% of my time is babysitting a lot of grown men with Type-A personalities who don't know how to work together because software guys tend to have huge egos. The other 20% of the time I get to do cool stuff like set technical direction and play with new technologies.

I pretty much hate corporate america, started investing in real estate 7 years ago, own several duplexes that I manage and do most of the work on, trying to get into commercial either this year or next, and plan to pseudo-retire before 50. My only desire in that particular arena is to get to a spot where I do not need to be beholden to some employer for a paycheck.

I love to track cars, work on cars, spent the past 25 years playing a lot of soccer and continue to play 3-4 days a week to this day, play a fair amount of guitar when I have time, and am a huge geek when it comes to computer gaming. I think when I quit World of Warcraft in 2010 I had about 275 days of played time, and at that point I realized I should stop and not waste my entire life or I will regret it

Let it be known that I have no love for the new F-series engines in M3/M4. Proper M cars are naturally aspirated or nothing. Call me a bigot. Fuckers.

Letting the car idle especially in the cold is horrible - snap already hit on it with carbon buildup. "Warming up" the engine should involve immediately driving it and keeping the rpms in check. This way all components of the car properly heat up. Another way to think about it is ok, so you let your car idle to warm up (which by the way letting an N54/N55 BMW idle to get the oil gauge up to temp will take like 30 minutes), but let's just say you do let it idle to warm up. At that point, you go to drive and everything else important that's mechanical is still cold as fuck like, let's say your CLUTCH. People who warm up their cars like that and then drive like normal are 100% doing long-term damage to their car, reducing the life expectancy of parts.

High rpms when the engine is cold is indeed a bad idea. Good way to crack a block. I've seen it happen. The internals of an engine are made of metal and alloys, which contract and expand with cold/heat. Also, in a BMW, oil is used as a cooling mechanism which is why so many of them require 7-8 quarts of the stuff. Same concept as what Porsche does. The oil temperature should be at regular levels before putting undue stress on the engine (high rpms) when it cannot cool effectively.

Bottom line is, I immediately start driving when I start my car and do not go above 3k rpm until the oil temp is good.
