Been a very hot minute since I’ve posted anything here. Winter 2018-19 through the summer of 19 I was doing engine work on my motorcycle. And just had low motivation to work on the BMW. But I started to tear into it during COVID. I ended up pulling the whole interior, going to be going with an all black interior. I acquired most of the swap from the parts car I had 4 years ago. The dove grey interior that was in it was pretty shot. But since about this past May I haven’t really touched it til this last month or so.

I had Troy rewrap my engine harness.

I’m also planning on going back to air. Picked up some bulkhead couplings today. Ran the front airlines today. And got the black carpet in as well.

Im starting to get a good amount of motivation for this thing again. So I may be posting more in again.

So I did a thing over the weekend. I  was on the hunt for a door for the girlfriends car and found one in Illinois. I ended up driving to chicago to with intentions of buying the door but it was damaged and I couldn't come back empty handed.. in turn, stumbled across something Ive been pondering for some time and it was in great shape and the perfect price.
    A hardtop.

The headliner is sagging (as are most) and the canvas does have some small flaws, but overall it's exactly what I needed. I intend on building a Panoroof and using this top to make molds, and a jig, but for now Im going to clean this one up and use it as is until im ready to take on that challenge. Ive been slowly trying to reduce the amount of irons I have in the fire so I can focus on this car.

Got a few part in the mail recently. No photos but nothing extremely exciting. The new clutch came in, intake manifold gaskets, a cv boot rebuild kit and a rear plastic thing (idk what the proper name is haha) and then the covers for the low beam side of my headlights.

Also got my abs plastic in to finish the rear bulkhead too. Used my CAD (cardboard aided design) template traced it out and started cutting.

Got everything trimmed right then drilled some holes. Used M5 nutzerts and some stainless M5 hardware to secure it.

It also makes more low end torque than max whp.... Starting standstill burnouts in 3rd gear has been a reoccurring thing throughout the year.

I’m putting my air suspension and management up for sale. I have Air Lift Performance front and rear kits, accuair switchspeed management, Zaetech digiguage, Air Lift 5 Gallon tank, and two viair 444c compressors. This is pretty much a drop in setup. All you would need to do for wiring is hook up the constant power, switched power, and ground and run the controller and gauge cables. I have it posted for $2500 on Facebook and other forums  but wibimmer price $2200.
I would also sell just the bags if anyone would be interested in just those.

Been a bit since an update!
Did a few things before DD72 last weekend.
Put the stock front sway bar back on the car to eliminate some of the body roll in the from end that I believed was causing the car to grip up a bit too much. I had shortened end links that came with my coils but when I ran them on the sedan last year they caused binding due to the angle kit and actually bent the mounting tabs on the shock body. Did some testing with the stock end links and they worked out perfectly!
Also changed up the front tire size from a 205/40 to a 215/35 which in turn gave me alot more room to lower the front of the car, it was killing me looks wise at the original height. Ended up being able to lower the front end 7/8" more with the new tires!

Oh and unrelated to things that needed to be done before drift day I also snagged a new quarter window motor from a yard since my driver side one was dead. Made me so happy to have both rear windows functioning!
DD72 went really well and I'm pleased with getting a front sway bar back on the car along with the new height and tire set up in front!

I haven’t had much ambition with this thing in the last couple months. But I did do a couple things with it. In may I put the car back to coilovers. I went back to the Isc coilovers that were on my car before I went on air. Emailed Isc for replacement parts so I could adjust ride height in the front again as one on the fronts were seized from driving on them in winter years ago.
Over the 4th of July break I deleted the ccv and now running a radium engineering catch can. I have the car it’s first good wash since last year.
Also I ended up trading my Volk III wheels for a set of BBS MK Motorsport mk2 wheels. They are 18x8.5 et13 with 235/40 up front and 18x10 et20 with 265/35 in the rear. The tires rub pretty bad in the rear so my current plan is to order some 215/40 tires for the front and use the current front tires for the rear. Once I get the tires situation done I’ll mess with the camber a bit to make them actually fit decent.

Hopefully I can get the tires before ls brewhaus and get the car there!

After getting my car done and on the road at 1:30am Friday morning, my car ended up making it to euro district with no major problems. There were something that were half finished and not done that I wanted to be done so my car will be going back into the shop to get finished up!
Here are some pictures that I’ve found from the show that people have taken.

    UPDATE
Taped off and painted the subframe/strut bracing. Man was it a pain in the ass and Im not completely happy with it but it will do for now. Mostly not happy with how there is no way to match the barely painted interior where I sprayed it silver.

Also got the dash skin installed with the steering column. I need to wait on fully finishing the dash as I have some wiring and other modifications to take care of yet. But its starting to look more like a car with the dash in! Also worth noting that this car came with grey interior and this dash is the one from my 330i. Really need (want) to find some black door panels but holy shit does everyone want an arm and left nut for them.

The rear trailing arms are completely finished as well.
Hubs were redrilled to 5x114.3, hoping to have the wheels done soon to show you all! Brand new upper ball joints and lower bushings were installed along with new wheel bearings. Had both arms powdercoated satin black and topped them off with 90mm motorsport hardware studs (might have been a little excessive on the length lol) and the final tough was some syncro design works RTABS. (such a quality looking and feeling product, super hyped on those!)

Also I cant take credit for the second caliper bracket install but they are weld on tabs, previous owner of my 330i did them. These are the rear arms from the 330, and it will also be getting the front knuckles and brakes from the 330.

Andd got the rear trailing arms, upper and lower rear arms along with the new Stance true rear coilovers.

Fabbed up this harness bar as well with the help of @SamHolzmann and @WildBill burned in the brackets that I made for the support rods. The support rods are from a nrg harness bar. Reason for making one is NO ONE offers a reasonably priced harness bar and the end goal for this car will be a caged (down the road of course) so this will do for now for sure!

Sam painted all of my calipers and brackets in the same color as the engine bay (we used a high heat primer) then I Drilled out the new rear rotors to fit the new lug pattern and got the rear calipers installed. I used the condor speed shop rear stainless brake lines, just need to run the other stainless lines for the standalone master on the ASD handbrake that i have from the 330.

And finally I was able to throw some of the left front suspension togeather. I repainted the MG Solutions angle kit, also repainted the knuckles. Still waiting on new hub bearings for the fronts and they will need to be redrilled to 5x114 as well. Needed to get this all togeather to see if I needed extended brake lines or if the stock length condor ones would fit (as i was informed they would with the angle kit and the 330i had stock lines). Well just as my luck goes they wont work. So those are in the process of being exchanged for the lengthened ones.

Little update.. Since the s54 ofh does not have tabs to mount the power steering reservoir my brother made one that we ended up mounting by the driver side motor mount arm.

We ended up converting the lines to -6an and instead of using the stock ps cooler I bought an auto trans heat sink and mounted that in front of the steering rack. After a couple trips to behling I everything I need to make my oil cooler lines, Vanos line, and power steering lines. We shaved the top of the core support so there was a decent mounting point for the oil cooler.

And I had my buddy that painted the engine bay paint the brake booster as well.

But it there’s quite a bit more to do to make the euro district deadline.
