Thats what I thought. But that doesnt look like clear coat coming off, correct? Will ceramic polishing remove the coating, or do I need to strip that off first.

Right place for this? I dont care, Im posting it here
So, I bought a set of style 42s for next to nothing....they need refinishing, lots of it.
Anyways, so I started the tear down and Ive got a few questions.
Firstly, it looks like someone may have attempted to "refinish" these at some other point by spraying the whole wheel silver. The lips are peeling, but it isnt just clear coat, its paint (right?).
Secondly, it appears the bolts have paint on the heads that is beginning to chip during removal. These were bare and not painted from factory, correct?
I was under the impression these bolts had loctite from the factory. They released with a bit of effort w/o heating. The thread do not look like they have any sort of threadlock on them. Maybe they have been dissembled in the past?
The bolt holes have quite a bit of corrosion in them. What is the best course of action to clean the threads out?
So, thats the start.Anybody have an ideas on the best way to remove the paint from the bolt faces? Soak in paint stripper, rinse, then tumble/polish?

They look like they were painted (at least I thought the trunks were normally body colored) so who knows...
You are correct.

Wow those floors are toast. Its got a 7 letter plate so I they bought it recently, probably without checking the floor, and now they want out
They sure as hell are not going to get out for 6k.
I sold a 2002 in muuuuuuuuuch better condition than that and I struggled to get a couple grand.
At least the shock towers look decent

Looks like a scam. If you go on their website they want you to give them your cc and charge $25 just to be able to search.

Yeah. Sadly its auto and a 525i. I could see maybe getting $4k for it to the right buyer.
If I remember correctly, I sold my s52 swapped e34 for like 4.5k. I would find it hard to believe anyone would pay 4k for that banana, but who knows.

It's not the ugliest thing, wheels and plastidip/wrap and it would look fine...but he's smoking something if he thinks he will get anywhere close to 8k for a e34 525i.
Meh. Thats not bad, just needs some wheels and a little TLC. I have seen FAR worse in my time.Eww... I wonder if this comes with the trunk full of whatever drugs he is onhttps://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/d/1994-bmw-525i-custom/6330072217.html
I feel so bad for that poor e34

Considering what they are selling for in good condition (check out ebay)... I couldnt pass it up.Though about those myself until I rembered how much it sucked to refinish a set of style 5's...good score either way!I work in the swimming pool industry. I've got nothing but time in the winter to work on this type of stuff...it helps me keep my sanity

I just want the trans. Someone buy it and sell me the trans....I have like $50 for ya.

Case dependent. He quoted me 200 a wheel to get them completely refinished (3pc). That includes two wheels that need bend repair and welding. But that is sending them out as he couldn't accommodate in house.
