Also got the fenders back today. Also will be calling them about the fenders so they can re-fix their "work"

    -bubbles in clear

    -black overspray on the red

-didn't paint the bottom of the fender correctly to match my black rockers

    -didn't install the trim

-some of the paint looks to already be cracked from shrinking

    -hooray

    Where was the "work" done?

What would you like to know? Haha

I bought it stock two years ago, I kinda did the whole car show thing with it for a while and then realized that racing is more fun so I changed it up a bit. I had some wheels on it that made it rub like a mofo so it wasn't as fun as it could be:

But then I threw some 15x9s with sticky tires on it and remembered what it was like to have a Miata lol. I have lots and lots of plans for the car still! But anywho, this is a BMW forum oops emoji28.png

    Very clean car.

I would like to do an auto cross build in the future with one. They are so inexpensive, light, and rear wheel drive its hard not to consider them.

  3. Jake's boss from his previous job was nice enough to lend us a brand new extractor to use on the carpets of the E30. The only stipulation was that we had to take pictures of the process. Brutal, I know. It took me around an hour or so to extract the carpets and even though the results are not inredibly drastic, I still think they look way better than they previously did.

We will have the remainder of the parts for the engine refresh for this weekend where the plan is to at minimum have the motor back in the car.

  4. Haven't really done much with the car besides drive it. Was able to car pool with a co worker who has a newer car that doesn't mind driving everyday as long I throw a little gas money, which is nice. Went to do the passenger front wheel bearing this weekend, needed a 46mm socket, found out no one sells them locally and had to buy it in a set at Harbor Freight. Was 1 inch drive impact socket set, so I needed and adapter set, plus a breaker bar (that was 3/4 inch. $124 later I was ready to go, until I found out that the socket side wall was too thick to fit in the hub...So I over nighted one on amazon for $10. Just returned all the stuff after I was done. The race gave me a little fight, but relatively easy process other wise.

Cleaned the wiper relay which fixed my intermittent wiper issue.

Did a lock rebuild kind of correct, it locks but I must have put one of the pieces in backwards as the key doesn't lock it still. I'll figure it out later.

Was gonna do the oil as I am 3,000 miles over the suggested mileage, got too lazy, I'll do it later.

I couldn't live without 2 monitors.  It makes working with excel a breeze.  I'm looking at buying a cheap monitor for my home office just so I can have 2.

I use this as my main monitor and I love it. For the price you really can not beat it. I purchased it last year for $130, now considering buying another after checking the price again.

  6. Finished the paint restore today. Was much cooler out so that made being outside a lot more enjoyable. The paint came back really well and I am happy with the result. The products I used for the restore were Meguiars Ultimate Compound, Polish, and Liquid Wax. I didn't test it, but the paint should have a really good bead. I'll ask Jake to take some pictures with the DSLR so you guys can get a better idea of how it came out. The iPhone pictures will suffice for the time being.

  7. Another hot day today. Thankfully, there is some really good shade cover from some big trees on the road in front of Jake's house. Was able to keep the E46 and E30 cool all afternoon. It was probably an easy 20 degree difference being in the shade and being in the sun, would not have worked today had I not been in the shade. Just ran a long extension cord across the road to get power for the rotary wheel. Also just used buckets of water to wash the car on the side of the road as the hose did not reach. I only cut the car today, so the car still has swirl, but the depth was really brought back out. I will be hopefully polishing and waxing it tomorrow to finish up the paint restore. It has cleaned up pretty well. Some areas will need to be revisited, but overall I am happy with the outcome. Buddy from Bergstrom stopped over with some metal polish and helped me with the bumpers and window trim while I finished buffing the car.

Hoping after the polish and the wax the car will really shine.

  8. Had a half day at work today. So I headed to Jake's right after so I could continue to remove the rest of the interior. It was a hot and humid one today and the E30's resting place as of now is in the driveway. Luckily, the garage felt like it had air condition in it, so I made trips continuously between the two. Was able to pull the rest of the interior minus the dash, carpet, and seat belts. Pulled the headlights, kidneys, and headlight grills to be cleaned and repainted. Removed the IS trunk lid to be repainted and to make buffing the car easier. Pulled out the tail lights to red out the amber turn signals (these need to be wet sanded and polished). When I pulled out the dead battery I was greeted to a fuckin colony of ants living under this thing. Quickly grabbed the shop vac and vacuumed up as many of them as I could. When Jake got back from work we tried hammering out the dented side because it had been sitting under the sun all day. It looks better than where we started, but its still not very good. We cant be too upset given the condition we got it in, but it does look better. Will probably revisit this later. He also polished the area after to remove some of the paint transfer. I will be attempting to buff and polish the car tomorrow weather permitting.

Nice! It'll be intersting to see what happens with this. If I donate an M50 swap can I drive it at the track? :)

If you try to take the dent out, you'll want to start at the edge of it and work towards the center. Trying to push in the center to "pop" it back out will almost definitley make it worse.

Thanks for the advice on the door dent. This is definitely something we are going to be discussing with people that have more body work knowledge before we make an attempt to fix it.

We didn't get any pictures of the interior after, but the carpet cleaned up really well (Jake will post some later). We pulled the center console and back seat out to make sure we got everything with the vacuum. I washed all of the center console parts. I was able to clean up the trunk pretty well but this dude must have spilled a whole box worth of nails in it because they were everywhere.

We are in the process of pricing out all the gaskets, seals, fluids, and parts for the engine rebuild. The goal is to pick up a transmission next week and then pull the engine and start the rebuild process. Hopefully start it that weekend?

    cool!

i have two of the same color front sport seats (in nearly the same condition) if your going to try and fix those they would be good for parts, and you should get two whole decent seats out of the 4. you can have them for free.

Would you be available this weekend for pick up?

Edit: Actually would you be able to PM or post some pictures of the two?

I wouldn't even consider putting one in a car without going through it right away unless it had a recent rebuild with proof. They're really not that tough of a transmission and have many wear items that should be upgraded. If you were thinking about the swap, plan on an honest $10k if you're not cutting tons of corners. No exageration.

I think a 24 valve swap is a lot more likely.

If the M20 is a no go.

  12. Like Jake had stated, I had no idea that I would be purchasing an E30 later that night. Glad we did however, as this is a pretty good car for the price we paid for it. Obviously with it not running is less than ideal, but our intentions and expectations were not to buy a perfectly fine running and driving car. This will definitely be a project, but something both Jake and I will look forward to working on. It's the first time for me, and for him to some extent, that we can work on a car with no worries of having to be able to drive it the next day or not.

Massive dent might be an understatement, dude backed a truck into this thing. We should be able to fix it to some extent, we aren't expecting anything perfect. A little TLC is going to take this car a long way. Has a cardinal interior that is in pretty good condition, the worst offender being the driver seat that might be salvageable. The paint is in pretty good condition given the age of the car. I plan to do a paint correction on it that should really clean up the overall appearance.

This dude definitely lived out in the middle of fuckin no where. He was a nice guy, also had his dad help us push it up on the trailer so that was a big help. Dude also had a techno violet E36 M3, definitely didn't expect to see that there. Once again, good thing Ben was with us as neither Jake or I knew how to tie down a car to a trailer properly.

Also big shout out to Jakes neighbor for lending us his tow rig. Pulling that thing with a dolly would have been horrendous. Super nice trailer.

  13. Here are some side profile shots to get a better view of how the car sits.

I was taking pictures with my T3i last night but forgot that my new computer does not have an SD card reader on it...So I will get those up shortly.

    For now, iPhone pictures:

Lol SteelBlue and GunMetalGrey. You boys sure do like your metal colors.

I can't believe you had to make a parts run from Ben's shop. He has like every tool known to man in there.

The car looks great. The front looks awesome, but I think you need side skirts of some sort now. The rest of the car isn't as aggressive as the front. The Schnitzers look good.

This was my feeling regarding the front. I think I might take the splitters off and see how it looks.

I was also surprised we had to make a parts run. However, it was a conversion extension that he had one of, but it was broken.
