5 speed clutch, dual mass flywheel

cpandrewschmidt

Question

Hi all,
I'm going to do a 5 speed swap in my 1991 325i. Trans has the dual mass flywheel. I prefer the smoothness of the dual mass as I don't track or drive hard so don't need the single mass. Won't ever turbo the car. Just a convertible cruiser.

I need a new clutch and pressure plate. Sachs FX heavy duty clutch and plate new on ebay is $125. Again, don't need anything fancy, just need it to work. So, don't want to spend a ton.

Will that work for dual mass? I can't seem to find anything that is specific for dual mass flywheel. When I look at PelicanParts I only see ones that are for the single mass.

Thanks for the help,
Andrew

Sprung hub is typically for a single mass, the dual mass clutch usually has a solid center because the flywheel does the damping. Look for Sachs on rock auto. I put a single mass on an e30 (manual swap) if I remember right the clutch disc and pressure plate are different.
