straight6pwr
Guys-Going to be tacking my LSD swap tomorrow (June 25th, Saturday) in my driveway. If anyone has a project they want to work on or need help with, you should come on by for a wrenching day! Its supposed to be warm and sunny. Will be working from 10am-? and could throw some brats on the grill for lunch. Let me know (you might have my number) by posting or PMing me.Dan
Chadley
How well acquainted with tools are you? IE, you have more than just the 59pc kit, right?
straight6pwr
yup. i dont have specialized tools like timing, diagnostics, fancy pullers, etc but there is a parts store a few minutes from my house where additional tools can be rented. what did you have in mind? Guest Celina325is
Next on my list is to fix my AC/Blower motor. Add freon, replace blower motor, replace resistor, cross fingers. I just rolled over 200k miles and am still looking for things to replace. Also in the mail right now is a Fuel filter, hood supports, and I want to flush/replace the coolant, transfluid, diff fluid, brake fluid. Any other suggestions? Chadley
Just wondering how well you were on tools. I may/may not be putting new calipers on the front soon, which requires a 7mm hex socket for me. Not a complicated job but I much prefer wrenching with pals over wrenching alone
straight6pwr
7mm allen should suffice? have star sockets, but not hex. i have plenty of tools, i have maintained my e30s for 8 or so years now mostly on my own. calipers/brakes are not a problem. straight6pwr
success! new sway bar reinforcements installed and lower ratio diff!
straight6pwr
no one came by, but heres what got done: Did some work today. Swapped to a lower lsd and finished up the sway bar fix. had Pat at Kummrow weld up a new tab the other day, so when I had the LSD out, it was the perfect time to get the sway bar bolted back in. Bolt up new bracket and drill holes accordingly. Bolt on. It is a tight squeeze, especially with this particular sway bar which is too short before it turns 90deg at the ends. Lots of cursing here. The diff swap: Jack car up (look at those tonka trunk sized tires!) PB Blaster is your friend. Coat EVERYTHING. From left, and the order which they get removed: 12 axle bolts, 4 driveshaft bolts, 2 upper rear subframe bolts, 2 upper front subframe bolts, bushing bolt. be a man and drop the diff without the jack! (sandbag works great to catch it) replacement LSD ready to go in. Installation is the opposite of removal, only faster! B C
What diff went in? and what came out? My diff is just a wheelspin away from pooping the bed and I need to have my eye out for a replacement.
straight6pwr
a 3.73 came out, but its going back to the guy i got the new one from. he might have a spare or two, i'm pretty sure he has a 2.
B C
Groovy, I like your sway bar reinforcements. Custom-made? I haven't seen them before. I'd rather bolt something in like that than weld.
straight6pwr
nah those are Ireland engineering ones. probably would have chose another company's, but a local guy had these for sale with the correct bushing size.
