I like your idea. As you realize, the BMW enthusiast community revolves mostly around the E30 chassis. With that being said, why stop at M cars? An E30 can be had for a fraction of the price and you get more fun per dollar spent.
I like the idea of having a consultation service to help first time BMW buyers make the right decision for them. However, this information is easily attainable on all the forums out there. What is your idea exactly? It sounds interesting, but more information is needed for an opinion weather or not it would be relevant.
I think his target audience is not the enthusiast but more the casual consumer that has an expendable budget and is more concerned with the imagery associated with the BMW M name. This is a generalization of course and exceptions would exist.

What do you mean by "raise the standard of the pre-purchase process"?

I think the reapers hoodie says Rowley on it.
That was my first thought! Us dead people... We're on the same wave length.
-
Snap! I think it worked. Unless we're both dead... On a dead thread... Where only dead members can respond. Is there a little boy following you around?

A 2002 TOURING!!!!! I didn't even know these were real!!!http://m.ebay.de/itm?itemId=131079888136

Pound on the fuel tank while cranking and see if it tries to start up. Its probably something simple such as the fuel pump. Keep it simple.

It is the same concept as the m50/m52 swap. The m54 intake wil bolt directly on the e46 m52tu. I'm not sure what the gains are but it is highly recommended that you get a tune after. Shark injector, active autowerk, etc.

I would love the e36 and e30 m3s and road america! Some real porsches would be nice as well.

I always had an interest in cars but didn't fall in love until I was in high school and an upperclassmen let me drive his Saab 9000 turbo... before I had a license. He asked if I knew how to drive stick and I said kinda and he was all for it. He put me on the road and encouraged me to floor it! I was in love with european cars after that! Him and another guy were always talking about 944's and e36 m3's and that always stuck with me. The e36 M3 just clicked with me for some reason and I developed an obsession with BMW.

I would get the Volvo V70 every time! Room for days, AWD, great build quality and nice interior. The maintenance would be cheaper than the VW but more expensive than the Subaru. I have never heard somebody tell me they were disappointed with there Volvo.

Good price for a little project! Looks pretty clean besides some minor bodywork.
Something about the 535i has always attracted me.

Something like this should work...

Most superchargers sound like garbage.
I say remote mount turbo
I worked on a GTO with a rear mount turbo set up years ago. Plumbing... Plumbing for days...

I think you need to know what your budget is first and foremost and what are your power goals.
If it was an unlimited budget I would always go turbo just for the general ease to increase boost and make power as well as the overall efficiency of a turbo compared to supercharger.
For ease of install and a smaller budget with moderate gains I would do a supercharger. Easy to maintain, low entry price but you can't just turn the boost up to see more gains. Yes you can install different pulleys but every supercharger is going to have limits.

Those wheels look amazing! That seems like a great price to.

For $3-$4k I would buy it based on the potential. It's a low mileage e36 with a widebody. With different wheels and a decent rear bumper and that wing eliminated it could be a decent car. This guy is out of his mind to ask $31k though!!!

Not sure when Stance WI show will be. I think its still to early to find out. I think it was in July last summer. Not 100%
Like wasn't m3 said, there will be a spring and a later summer meet. They were talking about doing one of the meet's in Madison as well.
-
Why does everybody here seem to hate on Stance. The show was pretty dam good.
That is the million dollar question! I always have a blast at these shows!
-
I am all for getting together to show up but I don't think you are going to gather a strong following to go to any of the Stance WI shows on here.
-
I was just wondering what had happened with this car recently! I love the old volvos! Nice build!
-
Now you can justify the x-brace as insurance, rather than just for fun! Perfect reasoning for getting it past the wife.
If I am going to use my powers of persuasion to get ANYTHING past the wife it will be a supercharger or an M3! An x-brace can just "show up" lol

I want to roll with a big crew from the Midwest so let me know what you can find.

Here's a guy that posts on Jalopnik that does what you want to start doing in a sense.
