  1. I'll be back in Wisco on May 13th and I'll start living with Chris in Milwaukee on the 18th or 19th so we will definitely be able to make something happen. I would like to get this system on as soon as possible so I can enjoy it

  2. The catback portions of our exhausts should be the same from what it seems. If you do ditch the Dinan catback portion for custom just let me know=)

If I swap out the cat back for custom then the cats will be replaced by the resonator and all I will need will be the dual pipes going back to the new muffler. If the 525 rear system will make that work then I have no problem with swapping with you. Be easier then bending my own pipes and less expensive.

  3. Good news! Chris was under the car the other day and said it looks clean underneath, always a good thing. Also, he saw that the muffler should just unclamp from the rest of the exhaust making it much easier to see what the system is like without it and then throwing it back on if it is to loud. Also I did some looking around for Magnaflow mufflers and I found this beauty.

As you can see in the video is a Magnaflow, I just called Miller Performance and was told that the build used the muffler #12468 and resonator #11379. I would like to go with this muffler/resonator because it doesn't just sound like an american muscle V8 like other magnaflows which was why I was a little hesitant of going with them. It has more of a sporty tone to it or european I suppose, I like it a lot. One question I have is what are those ball looking things before the resonator, cats or what? Not that I necessarily need them I'm just more curious. Another thing is how am I going to keep the O2 sensors? According to this real ome picture, the O2 sensors (#21) are in the front of the cats. Can I just put new piping there and screw/tread a hole for them? I don't want to cause any problems with the car running rich, V8 mileage doesn't need any reasons to get worse. I suppose the O2 sensor could be in a different spot on the Dinan exhaust but if I find a different exhaust to chop up then I'll need to figure this out still.

I am not sure how the exhaust is routed on the e34, but for mine it was very simple.

Looking at realoem again the systems look pretty different. When I get home I'll probably end up cutting off the rear muffler and seeing how loud it is. If its to much then I'll throw a magnaflow on there or something, maybe a dynomax vt. Can't do anything for another month and a half still.

  5. Stock e34 525i exhaust. I can't find any threads on people swappung exhausts between 540's and 525's but they do say that they are routed the same way and are very similar. That leads me to believe they would swap fairly easily. We can get together some time and look at them side by side.

I believe the 540 has a duel 2.25 all the way back and the 525 is probably only a single. They look similar from the realoem diagrams but not exactly the same.

  6. Dominic's 540 with "muffler delete" sounds amazing.

Im a fan of electronic cutouts, it would be a nice option.

I am worried that the exhaust I am making for my car (just a 14" long resonator) is going to be stupid loud

I would like to hear what he did to his system as well. Chris showed me videos though and it is great.

you and all your neighbors will soon learn to hate your car.  straight pipe was cool on my car for exactly 2 days, then the highway drone drove me crazy.

dont just hack off your exhaust because you want more sound but can't afford to do it correctly.

This is true, I can always see what it is like though, the cats and resonator would still be on so maybe it wouldn't be to ridiculous. Money is also a factor too, I don't know what my funds will be like this summer for sure.

Why not remove the Dinan exhaust and sell it since it should be worth some money. Then either find a stock exhaust and hack it up or have one welded up? Idk if the exhaust routing is the same for our cars but if it is I would trade you my stock exhaust for the Dinan

What exhaust would I be trading mine for or off of what car? That would be easier then selling it but I would be nice to have the cash to put something into my new exhaust though.

  7. skip the name brand exhaust.  these motors sound so freakin good all on there own, and it doesn't take $1200 to get that sound.  go down to the muffler shop, have them cut off the stock muffler and replace with a y-pipe and a cheap single pipe 3" muffler like a magnaflow and you will drool at the sound your $300 exhaust makes.  a side bonus is that you will lose a ton of weight from the stock can to the smaller aftermarket one.

Straight pipe it. Or side exit exhaust. Or run open headers.

Straight pipe is probably what is going to be happening for a long time but I'm ok with that.

  8. I'll teach ya how to weld for the style 5s!!!

Ehhh I'll have to think long and hard about that. I don't like the winter wheels very much but if I got those style 42s I could sell them. But I'll let you know, won't be till May I can do any of this anyways.

I realized but compared to their new stuff this is tame. 2011 550i we had at concours for a while with just the Dinan mufflers was way louder than a stock F10 M5 exhaust. This doesn't even have any throat under acceleration. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Age may play a factor in the quality if it has been sitting for some time.  Straight pipe it...

I was planning on just cutting off the muffler for now till I got the money for a legit system. Eventually I would like to get a Eisenmann exhaust, they sound ridiculously good. Here is a video of what it sounds like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5d2cJ_n8m8 The problem is that system cost $1200 so I have a way to go till I can get that.

I got to see this car in person yesterday, I was honestly surprised at how easy the car was to drift. I guess I just figured the E34 was more of a boat for some reason.

  9. Thanks guys!

540i/6 is a great find, damn fast car! FYI, the headlight washer system can fetch a pretty penny
That is good to know but I think I'll keep them just because I like being different. It also has the metric gauges to go with.
Nice car I was gonna grab this for a DD but could never get a return from the owner
It was hard to get a hold of him. He said he had dozens of people trying to contact him
I love the e34 540i!  Nice find!  I'm Patrick btw lol
Sorry man! I didn't know your username on here
  10. Finally got my own car everyone! First I would like to say thanks to Chris (CYoung) for making this all happen while I'm down in South Carolina for school, he picked it up for me and did all the dirty work for me. Like the title says it is a 1995 e34 540i 6 speed. According to wiki there were only 3,200 produced so they are a little hard to come by. It has a 4.0 L V8 and a Dinan chip making it put out around 300hp. I haven't have the pleasure to drive it yet but I trust Chris's word 100% and he said that it is in perfect mechanical condition. Rust is not a big issue on the body which is also rare for e34s. Interior looks great as well and came with style 5 wheels with summer tires. Overall, I am very happy, got it for a great price, and was definitely worth it. Oh yea, its Canadian too  .

I've got a couple plans for this summer. I would like to get some Spax lowering springs to get rid of that nasty wheel gap and possibly some exhaust work. Other then that I do love the way e34s look with style 42s so maybe I'll pick up Patricks from the Madison Bimmers Facebook group if I have the monies. No big plans as of right now, 300hp should do the trick for a while at least :D.

  11. Does anyone have any experience with M62tu timing chains? I have only done M20 timing belts and I'm having trouble finding anything helpful on other forums. I assume it's going to be much more confusing because technology and VANOS. I ask because of this, http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/cto/4169688667.html Would be a great deal if I could figure out what needs to be done and and how to do it. Also if anyone has a copy of the e39 Bentley manual, would you be able to scan the DIY for timing chain replacement and post them for me that would be much obliged.

  12. I am being totally honest right now with my opinion. I say get a 318ti. Preferably a 94 or 95. They are great little cars. They handle excellent, get great gas mileage, and are very very reliable.

I do think 318ti are cool little cars but I was handed down Chris's 318is which I drove till it died any I'm really looking to get into the I6 again, I miss them to much.

Would anyone be able to I.D. the wheels on this car? Trying to figure out how much I would be able to get for them.

And @Ramze46, I would go for one but the milage isn't going to cut it. Part of my justification to getting a car right now it to drive myself the 1000 miles home and back to SC a couple times a year.

  13. It really depends on what *YOU* prefer, doesn't it?   :)

i'm just looking for some other opinions to help guide myself in the right direction.  :)

But I'm probably going to keep looking for both, see if I can get a better deal on one or the other. I am leaning towards the e34 side more just because I like how they are more unique.
