  1. After doing some more homework and getting some seat time, I opted for more of a cruiser vs the v-rod.   This morning I picked up a 2011 Heritage Softail with just under 13k miles.  Weather tomorrow up on this side of the state is going to be stellar, so the wife and I are going to put a few miles on with a couple of friends & their SO's.

  2. The wife and I spent yesterday afternoon motoring around the back roads of west central Wisconsin.  I've not owned a bike for many years, but last night I found myself using craigslist and google to find one.   I have the feeling that when I get home from travel this week I may have to get one.   Specifically looking at a 2012 Harley V-Rod "muscle".  Damn it... :)

  3. You may be correct on the smell from lots of cranking without firing.  I have found with mine that if I start it just to move the car and shut it off without running it for more than a minute it will run very rough the next time I start it.  I'm not sure if it fouls the plugs or why but my m50 and m20 and our Maxima are all that way.

It sounds like your fleet of cars needs a tune up.

  4. King Dyno Day was a success. Everybody was having a good time, I put down good numbers, and WISCOe90 was there so I got to chat with him, among some other cool people I haven't seen since Dyno Days last year ;)   Only one huge douche (ironically in an e36 BMW) doing burnouts when he showed up which caused a bunch of staff from King to run out yelling because, ya know, there's tons of people standing around and you're not cool sitting there doing burnouts. I hope it was nobody on this forum because I would be severely disappointed to know I indirectly associate with such a huge doucher.

anyways, here's my chart! best pull was in 5th gear (1;1 ratio anyways) because 4th gear was spinning the tires.  379 whp / 434 wtq. I did a baseline run on this dyno last year before modding that made 275/295, so basically FBO mods got me +100 whp and +140 wtq. Not bad for $3k of modding. Now I just need a limited slip to help put it to the ground :D

    Map 5?   How much e85?

  5. I got the work done, but there's an issue with one of the Focal crossovers.  The midrange channel is more or less non existant, and I purchased the set from an Ebay seller in Italy.  While that's being sent back to Italy, I was able to find another crossover on Ebay so I'll have a spare on hand.  The replacement arrives tomorrow and I'll swap the bad one out.  For now I"m running the midrange driver with a full range signal, and it's just too bright.

Overall the system sound 100% better than the crap system which BMW put into my base model E92.  I did realize that I've not purchased any new CDs in years, and mp3 sound quality REALLY SUCKS.  I need to go on a music shopping binge...

And Rush Limbaugh sounds great! :)

  6. My 2010 E92 came with the "base" audio system, of which BMW should be very, very ashamed.  For this class of automobile the audio system should be stellar, not shit.

The base system consists of a full range 4" speaker in each door, 6" woofers under the seats (the doors and floors are wired in parallel & present a 2 ohm load to the head unit), and another pair of 4" full range speakers in the rear.

Yesterday I installed a set of Focal 100KRS components into the doors, adding tweeters in the OEM location with BMW tweeter "sails" / mounting pods.  The under seat 6" woofers were replaced with Earthquake SWS-8 woofers.  I acquired a wiring harness from an E90post.com guy so there was no cutting of any stock wiring. All the wiring is run to the trunk.

I've got a JL Audio XD600/6 amp, a JL Audio Cleansweep and a JL Audio CL-SES (for aux inputs - ipod/ponoplayer and perhaps satellite radio sometime).  The doors will each receive 100 watts, and each woofer will receive a bridged 200 watts.

Back out to the garage this morning to finish up the wiring & run a smoke test, if it passes the smoke test then the amp & etc get mounted.  I'd forgotten how much fun this stuff is, and how I'd missed doing it.
