  1. Well I got her on the road again. Learned a couple lessons on this one and I can now say I'm an expert at '80s BMW driveshafts! When replacing your guibo and csb, only buy febi bilstein! Its oem parts and they do make the difference. The knock off csb's are not offset to keep the driveshaft in a straight line from the tranny to diff. During the replacement of these parts I opted to upgrade to the 1988 model year driveshaft from old car. It has the bigger guibo with no harmonic balancer and its a heavier duty driveshaft. This involved swapping the output flanges off the back of the transmissions, which is where I got hung up on. We weren't using a powerful enough impact, so they seemed to be seized. I learned that even some BMW techs dont have the best tools! I also cleaned up on of the joints on my exhaust and put on a new clamp which made it nice a quiet! Can't wait to show her off this weekend at the meet!

Here is a picture of the upgraded guibo

And the nice, straight upgraded driveshaft!

  2. Some bastards are going to see it at 3:30 before me. I'm next in line. I have $700 in hand and told him if it runs and drives that's what he gets.

Check the rear strut towers for rust! If those are solid then its a pretty good indicator on the rest of the car. Common rust area is also the wheel well on the left side where the bumper shock mount connects. If its not to far gone, that is all easy to fixe. You'll notice the bumper sagging if its really rusty. Otherwise good luck with purchase! Besides that fender damage, car looks very clean!

  3. I signed up on the e39 group.....how do you find that without the fancy link?

From the forum home page click on community then groups is in the drop down menu. If you don't see a group for a particular chassis, then create one!

    just bought an e34 yesterday!

Glad to hear you bought an E34, hopefully a touring?

  4. Random newer minivan pulled into my driveway today. Some kid hopped outta the drivers seat. Ended up being Chris Young! Sly bastard.

Lol somehow I never saw this post. I wasn't surprised to see you lowering your car when I pulled in either.

Saw that white e30 vert with the alpinas driving around shorewood. Need to get that guy on here. Also saw a janky e36 sedan, but thats not uncommon at all.

  5. As a personal suggestion, I would recommend finding a late model E90 335xi. You may be able to find some still in stock at dealers or Certified pre-owned cars are an awesome deal as its a broken in car with a warranty. If you have your heart set on an F30, I would also recommend considering a 328xi as the N20 is a great powerplant. As far as handling goes, you can actually feel the 328i's 50/50 weight ratio difference between the 335i's 51.5/48.5. Does seem like much but its what reviewers say too. As much as I like the new look and styling of F30's, you really dont gain anything by going from E90 to F30 if your set on a 335i. Features are all basically the same, especially with late model e90's with the updated iDrive system.

  6. Found this post on bimmerforums. Looks like a PITA

The original car was a 318ic--so there wasn't a whole lot to start with-- added 328i LSD, Custom steering linkage, rerouted ABS, 740i driveshaft, custom engine mounts, 4.4L out of a 540i, manual trans out of a 530i v8, M3 lightened flywheel, 530i pressure plate, 99 540i clutch, the whole trans clutch thing was the biggest headache, SM4 engine management, the oil pan issue was taken care of with a custom sump system, the engine was moved forward to accomodate the master cylinder. This week the custom exhaust goes in--remus muffler, 8.5x19 fronts and 9.5x19 rear, short shifter.

  7. Moved this thread into site discussion. You have two options basically by clicking the "Insert Image Button" on the toolbar above the text box. You can post a picture as an attachment, which would store it on the WiBimmers website as a small and low res picture or you can insert the url of a picture file hosted on another site and have a nice big photo that is also inline with the text. If you use a photo sharing service such as flickr as Earl suggested, this makes it easy as you dont have to upload things twice. Eventually down the road each member will get a photo album on the site but until that is implemented those are your options. I used both methods below to display the logo.

  8. What time of day is this going down and will there be any fun drives involved?

This is what we have posted on the facebook event so far: Everything starts at 11:00am. We'll hang out, eat some food, and consume some beverages. Then, around 3:00pm, there will be a cruise through the Holy Hill area, with a couple stops/photo op sessions. Then, return back to the 415, and have a killer bonfire and brakestands all night. Feel free to bring a sleeping bag and crash on my floor or couches. Or bring a tent. http://www.facebook.com/events/400418446678501/

Were thinking about adding a scavenger hunt too but that will need a lot of planning.
