I had a bit of a run in with a tire wall at Autobahn last weekend and could use a dent removal guy for some front fender and rear quarter panel work. Any recommendations? I'm located in New Berlin. Thanks.

What is the Roundel column?
In the BMWCCA monthly magazine she had a tech column called Die Werkstatt. The last issue with her column was in December 2012. Looks like with the reformatted/reworked Roundel that started in 2013 a lot of good things have been lost including Jenny's column???

Guys, John is Jenny's brother. Jenny is a go to person for mechanical insight on BMWs. A lot of years at the Little Car Shop, mentored Pat Kummrow, and wrote a Roundel column that I always looked forward to.
Good to see you here Jenny!!!

Gussets get into the safety versus chassis stiffing limitations on cages in the NASA rule set.

Thanks. I ended up working with Chris at CS Motorsports in Lannon. Cage builder sounds like your guy.

Are you throwing any codes/cel? Do a stomp test to see what's going on or get a code reader.
In addition to what's already been mentioned such as temp sensor, timing belt off a tooth etc, are the plug wires new/old (arcing) and are they hooked up correctly? Clogged cat? O2 sensor?

Looking for ripping techniques. I've read the diys on the forums for removing the frame (drilling out the spot welds, etc). Just wondering if anyone local has done this.

Anyone in the Milwaukee/waukesha area have experience in removing an e30 sunroof cassette? Gutting the car to cage it and this is on the removal list.

I've seen loose main relays and fuses cause all sorts of problems. Checking them to see if they are loose or blown is always a good starting point.
Glad it all worked out.

Any recommendations for a cage builder in SE Wisconsin? Experience in working with the NASA CCR requirements essential. It's time for the DE car to take the next step in it's transition to SpecE30.

Check all your fuses?

Classic Coatings in Sheboygan does good work. I had them do a set of headers on another car a while back. Shipped them the parts.

I'll be there for the drivers school. Great event with all sorts of cars from vettes and vipers to M3s, R8s, GT3s, as well as older track rats to see in the paddock and on the track.

+1 re Big Bear for wheel balancing / tire mounting. Guys there always do a great job with street tires and r-comps. Good alignment work as well.

Lake Country Alignment in Oconomowoc for the e30.

Snap, nice write up and pics. You did a great job, particularly for your first time out on the track! I watched you and Merl for a bit in the 3-5 section during the afternoon runs. Nice lines and carrying speed through the turns.
Some throttle cable and brake issues in the first session for me but finally got it sorted out by the second run. Third session was a blast. All in all great weather, 30 minute run sessions, and folks to play with on the track. Couldn't ask for much more.

I was at the SCCA autocross on Sunday and the same event was going on in the other East half lot. The SCCA folks were running a autox school on Saturday and some of the instructors had gone over to the other lot to help. Best story from this is one SCCA national level competitor is driving and is told by one of the organizers riding along that he shouldn't be revving the car so high in 2nd...he says OK and shifts into 3rd. The response was a panicked no, no, no I meant go slower!!! Gotta love it.

Snap, I'm in. Just registered. There is also a m50 swapped e30 on the registration list (the other Brian). Last event on July 9 had only 42 drivers which meant smaller run groups with plenty of open track. NUmbers should be up a bit for the August event. There were other nonswapped e30s at the July event, a few m3s and at least two other 325i/is.
I heard from the the driving school coordinator that repairs on T1 and T7 are being done. These turns had been repaved earlier and were pristine with plenty of grip when I went in late May but the combination of heat, races and track schools had torn them up by July. The race line was coned off on T7 for our morning sessions on July 9 and by the afternoon they had coned off the race line on T1. The T1 pavement was ridged as if tractor tires had gone over it. You'd go from smooth to dancing over the ridges to a little smooth and then into the outside rumble strips if you had too much speed into the turn. No offs during the morning but the organizers decided better safe than sorry. Although it was a good opportunity to practice more of a rain line through T1 and T7, I'd rather have the smooth track.

Snap and I went down to the Oak Creek cat scale this morning. $9.50 to weigh the car, and a puzzled cashier wondering why we would want to do such a thing.
1990 325i two door, with me in it (185 lbs), 4 pt Kirk roll bar, race seats and harnesses, suspension tweaks, interior pretty much intact, 3/4 tank of gas, spare tire, jack etc... came in at 3000 lbs even. Weight distribution was 1540 front (51.3%) and 1460 rear (48%).

I hear the banjos a playin...
Last time I weighed was at a SCCA event at Miller Park years ago. Came in at 2770 but have made changes to the car since.

Anyone know somewhere around Milwaukee where I can get access to some scales to get my car weighed? Weigh station, truck scales, other?? Thanks, Rich

Just in case anyone is interested in a DIY clutch stop, Menards in West Allis has the 3/8"-16x 1-1/2" elevator bolts ($0.99) and the 1-1/2" gripper pads (eight pack for $2.48). Add in a 3/8 x 1-1/2" fender washer and a 3/8-16x hex nut and you are good to go for about $5 total.
Stick the gripper pad on the elevator bolt head, thread the nut onto the bolt, put the washer on the bolt. Unscrew the stock clutch stop (plastic screw), screw in the new one, adjust to preferred height, tighten hex nut. Good to go.
Elevator bolts are not listed on their web site but they have them in stock in the bolts section of the store.

How late are you guys going on the 4th? Also I'm not talking ding removal but 6-9" dent removal from sliding on slick grass into a tire wall.
