  1. Welp, ended up picking up the motor! Definitely was happy with the purchase. The guy selling it was really honest and was really cool about the whole deal. Checked the motor out pretty thoroughly and everything seems to pass inspection. Got the vin off the block as well as from the ecu. Looked it up and it said it was from 1997 bmw e36 m3. 8f54cf4caa0dab6f2a7c4996b2535d0a.jpgb90a37485a97e6e161d0a9921db04f8b.jpg78027f1f23f8eebf425b71af5a7517c2.jpg

  2. So I have a shot at buying a s52 motor from a guy near me. He had plans to swap into a e46 but never got around to doing it. He Said it has around 80,000 miles on it and it was running before it was pulled from the original car. I am very excited to come look at the motor as I have been on the hunt for a 24 valve motor to swap into my e30 for quite soemtime. I have plans to meet with him tomorrow to check it out. Comes with the wiring harness and ecu. Could I possibly get some last minute pointers to watch for when inspecting the motor? Any small things to check for to be positive I am getting something solid to work with? Got a few pics he sent me as well. Thx in advance!c95999b5aaf5b842ff9ccaa77c41a81e.jpg4130902ffd32b9866f92da0bea65f6a8.jpg

  3. So, funny story. Started talking with a guy on Craigslist that was selling e30 parts and I told him I was looking for a lsd diff and he asked me about my car and we got to talking and I gave him the last 7 digits of my social security #, jk. The last 7 digits of my vin and I guess he was some fleet manager for car parts and he looked it up and I guess I have 4.10 lsd! It felt like a second Christmas when he said that. So sorry for waistin ur time guys, I guess I don't need a diff after all

  4. in Medium Case, the 3.91 ratio only came out of an E30 325ix which would be a VLSD/viscous coupling and has a [V] stamp on it. If it was an S3.91 clutch-type LSD from an E28 or something else then that would rock. It will have an stamp if its clutch type (sperrdiff) which is german for "lock diff" or something. Not to be confused with "sperdiff" which would be german for Sperm Diff.

That pic does look like a small-case diff from a 318is though. I could be wrong though.

He said it was a medium case so it's probably the vicious one then. That blows

  5. So I started looking on Craigslist and there's a guy in Chicago (kind of a drive but may worth it) that's parting out an e30 and he's selling a 3.91 lsd medium case diff for $250....thoughts?...only had one pick of it.84ee9c45988f52d2f8bff8a585d13bfe.jpg

  6. So I have been on the look out for a good condition 3.73 lsd medium diff for my e30 318is. Now I see quite a few on ebay anywhere from 500 to 700 dollars in pretty decent shape (just by the look of the pictures). What is a good price for one of these? What would be the recommended max price I should pay for one? Thank you

  7. Okay I'm running into an issue. I was going through about to order the bc racing br series coilovers and I called the company as well asking about this. I guess they no longer provide rubber top mounts for the e30 coilover sets, only pillow ball. Now I did some reading up on the pillow ball top mounts and people were saying that the ride isn't gonna be as smooth as the rubber top mounts. I guess I really don't have a choice cause thats all they offer. Should I just go for it anyways or maybe look at a different brand?....did they use to have rubber top mounts or was it always this way?

  8. Okay well the bc racing coilovers have the rear springs located in the trailing arm like the stock ones so that would just mean that I would need stiffer springs for the rear. That explains what straight6pwr did....10k in the rear while 6k in the front to kind of even it out because of the mechanical advantage

  9. if you have the initial budget and ability to get your struts welded, go for the coilovers. it will make it cheaper/easier to tweak your preference down the line.

Yup I gotta a good friend that welds for a living so that won't be a problem.....I also just found out that the 91 318is has the 51mm strut housing, didn't know that. Also, for coilovers, what u guys think of the cx racing set? I read a couple other forums that they were a really good set for street use and hooligan activities, not so much for track though which is perfect! And a little cheaper then the bc racing ones.

  10. Okay cool....I think I might as well get the coilovers cause I did want to lower the car slightly so that it looks better with 15 inch wheels. Speaking of wheels, what is your guys opinion on the team dynamics pro 1.2 wheels 15x7's? They seem to be really well made, look pretty good, and are reasonably priced.

  11. Alright folks here's the scoop, I have myself a 91 e30 318is and I need some help. The cars stock with probably most of the original parts, It's got 118,000 miles on it. I got plans to drive it daily in the summer for now so I can kind of work all the bugs out of it. I have read so many forums and comments on the Frickin computer that my mind is gonna explode and I still feel clueless on what to do. The suspension.......is junk. The car is super bouncy and not good. You hit the gas to the floor and the car squats alot alot. Now first of all I should let you know that it aint gonna be much of a track car cause I live in the valley and there ain't nothin for tracks so yets call it a fun weekend car, that's what it's gonna be after this year. I was considering on buying some bc coilovers with swift springs. I read a lot about how they were good quality at a resonable price but I wasn't sure on whether it was really worth it (cause they are still like $1000 which is a lot of money I could put towards other parts) but if they are worth it I'm willing to spend it. Am i better off spending less and getting a nice set of springs and shocks? but which ones? How do they compare? Any help would be sweet. :) I also should include that when I say weekend fun, I mean like reckless driving and drifting so whatever I get better be able to handle my unlawfully crazy driving ;)
